Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

I'm busy reading all the Age of Sigmar Battletomes. I'm surprised by how GW manages to consistently write every time 100 pages of nothingness.

Have you ever read black library novels? Lol.

At least the black library varies in quality based on the writer. GW fluff post 6th edition was either regurgitated or mindless drivel.

Many who have read Black Library books, says that the first work by Ian Watson (read at your own risk) is of an entirely different quality than all later work; from an author of a higher calibre, says many reviews.

Watson's Space Marine is available from BL. A bonkers classic: blacklibrary.com/all-products/space-marine-ebook.html

I've read Black Library at the time there was a setting that looked like a universe I could picture myself in. But Age of Sigmar is just… random super-hero mishmash. I still don't understand what those Daughters of Khaine have for lunch or what kind of house they live in.

I read one BL novel (didn't pay for it won it in a tournament) it was pure pain. My 5 year old self had better capacity. And that was the end of BL for me.

One that had me in stitches was that the Khorne guys in AoS have a 100% cannibalistic diet in their realm. This made me laugh so hard; how can anyone has this poor a concept about how...anything works!

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Emperor_Zoron

Is it like supernatural? Like how Khornate demons probably drink blood, even though they don't need to drink anything? I'm guessing it's not, from your reaction.

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

But one can hope for some attempt to justify it...

There isn't any, the AoS background is nothing but an excuse for super-mega-awesome-cool things happening at all times. It's just high-octane high-fantasy warfare

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

if you're the type that likes murderhobo adventures without plot, or just in general only care about pushing dudes around on table, then it's the game for you. Heck, if we go by that criteria, AoS is 100% more tourney-player based than T9A is.

Oh yes, I remember. Once upon a time, Elector Count Bob convinced the forces of Khorne and The Night Goblin-Wood Elf alliance known as the Smiling Tree Collective to join his army of Lizard Folk and Hochland gunners to fight his mortal foes: The Beastmen-Dwarf army.
