Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

Of course you need a patent block to provide ranks. And cavalry in the second line to charge fools who attacked steadfast shooters.

So... how much points to a tactic that works once?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Feynn

a big/strong enough parent unit that you don't want to charge at, 1-2 support units that can help in shooting and doesn't get erased in a charge, a big enough cavalry to be able to hammer on countercharge and also positioned to make that countercharge

i'm not denying that it may work, but is an expensive tactic and also difficult to put in play succesfully

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

well there are no universal tactics that work always and are cheap :) However supporting units do benefit from being supporting unit and charging it can be reverted against enemy.

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Feynn

in this case however you're expending to much in points and choices to just get some "maybe it will work" considering there are far cheaper and consistent ones

It is not expanding, it is building army around the concept. It will not work with 15 strong parent IG unit. But KoE and their peasant swarms use similar approach - army of anvils and hammers. EoS can do it in a bit more sublime way.

However having stubborn IG to do the job it does not have to...

Giving supporting unit support of parent would result in ultimate pirates & foot knights mix that could not be assaulted in any way...

Presumably the support rules are priced assuming the multicombats, and EoS infantry isn't that frightening in combat. You'd just actually get to use the support rules defensively.

So, if I was developing a total replacement magic system that used tarot trump as the major thematic influences, what would you call the trumps? My first thought was Houses, but that's too astrology/zodiac

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

Arcana? Isn't that what those are technically called?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Squirrelloid

Yeah, but I'm looking for something that you would use to refer to the conceptual realms/influences, not the cards themselves

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Squirrelloid

And "Major Arcana" is a 19th century term used by the mystics to describe the Trump as elements of fortune telling

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

Anyway, assume the cards represent something like fundamental forces - what do you call the forces themselves, rather than their representations

Hello guys, i was looking up EoS the other day, was wondering if the second row of reiters get the 2 impact fire attacks aswell as the first row.

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Squirrelloid

I would assume they only get one supporting attack, but they do get the impact fire for it, but that's without examining the rule in question
