Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

I would probably give a MTG miniatures skirmish wargame a try - that sounds awesome. But AoS fluff feels like a poor attempt at the same concept, where everything is named by lawyers for the purposes of copyright and trademarks

in 40k, there are common people, toiling away on physical planets. theres an economy. its science fantasy - the mix of the worst medieval dystopia with sci fi space opera. AoS just feels like a forced attempt to mimic that... without the space

Some people like it, and thats totally fine. By all means, play what you want. but to me, its just completely lacking.

Well it is a world created by a half-mad barbaric semi-deity out of his memory. He did his best. I still believe the world exists only in his mind which explains all the confusion

THAT IS WHAT I DON'T GET : there IS a fluff. Hundred pages of it ! The Battletomes are bigger than any of our old Army Books ! But it's just hundred of pages of…. NOTHING

Also i completely fail to understand the structure of the books, it seems every one of those armies only contain 5 different units which are all the same anyway. Also, what about all those tables with random General trait, random squadron size, and whatever. Nothing makes sense at all.

Yet there seems to be an effort to actually write those hundred of pages. Funniest is, the BRB (those two pages) is also included in every Battletome, lest you forget ))))

For anyone who accuses 9th Age of flattening core... take a look at AoS battletomes... battleline units are practically identical book to book (plus another rule or two to remember... yay..)

Each battletome costs 30? Euro. You could not sell book 10 pages thick for 30 EUR. So you add fluff. Which is delusions of Sigmar.

lol. 30€ sounds cheap for GW.

@Eldan, you really like murderous machines, don't you?

And the murderous biology. Don't forget the murderous biology.

If I am to lead people, I'd rather have intelligent, creative people.

I prefer the faction of scientists on drugs. Would be much more epic.
