Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

No harder than remembering if a unit already moved or charged? Worst case, make 'flee' markers, to show it's made it's flee move.

(I mean, we have to remember whether units moved or not to determine aim penalties in a different phase, I don't see how this would be any harder)

Fair enough. I'm just wary of non-obvious triggers after the ID CoA change. It's something to think about.

IMO worse is redirecting charges after a unit have fled and then getting the unit back in the path of redirected charge which prevents charging at all...

@JimMorr Rulebook P27 -> you are still allowed to charge the original target. So your scenario can't happen anymore.

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    JimMorr

You mean 9.B.a.4? You can charge either target only if the second target also flees. I think about situation when second target stands but fleeing unit is lucky enough to be ping-ponged back into old spot...

    DarkSky

@JimMorr Yeah you are right, but as Lagerlof said: If that ping-pong can happen, the active player should not declare a second charge on the fleeing unit (or capitalize on it and don't redirect for a sure kill)

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    JimMorr

You are right... However the fact that fleeing unit can get into charger path and prevent a charge just does not feel right

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

I would appriciate extra complexity in form of additional charge reactions in place of the 'flee engineering'

As long as you get to charge with your unit you should be OK through combat res. Just don't get a counter charge. It may be my dice but I don't struggle against KoE combat Lords when I'm the charging one.
