  • It's more of a problem with Crush Attacks than anything else. I wouldn't touch them if they were free.

Quote from Grouchy Badger: “Its fine that it has room to breath and all that junk, but most people pick the bloody giants over the Jotun or the Kraken. ” Well the problem is: 1: The Kraken is too niche. An anti-monster monster almost defeats the purpose of a monster; you want it to slaughter waves of models, not win a 1v1 pokemon battle. And it does not help that it not only is designed very hard to kill monsters, it's not even that good against infantry. 4 attacks often means 2 hits, plus whate…

  • Quote from Grouchy Badger: “The Eyratöki... man I just dont know. Its fine against characters, and all that, but I really do wish they just did some other kind of wounds instead. Makes it kinda meh against anything but single models and characters, which I get is what it may be fore, but I dont see a lot of people besides fluff players like me taking it. I did however crush the glitter out of a dark elf character when I ended up doing 7 wounds. So thats pretty neat. If its supposed to be more li…

Quote from Grouchy Badger: “But almost everyone uses triple giants >: [ ” There is probably a reason for that. Looking at each armies giants, some seem much better value than others. Not to mention, the categories they come from vary heavily. For example, the Infernal Dwarf Giant is 300 points, it's unique aspects are a 4+ armour save, battle focus in the second round onwards of combat and ignores panic caused by non-Dwarf models. But it comes from THE most crowded section of the ID book (which …

Quote from Grouchy Badger: “I was with you all the way up until I saw the giants. Triple Giants. Why is it always triple giants. ” A couple of reasons: 1: I wanted to see if you could physically squeeze the Jotunn and 3 Giants in (and of course, it turns out you can, with 10 points to spare) 2: I tried to use the Armoured Giant before, and it was kinda meh. But with the same armour AND parry for less points, I am willing to give them a shot here. 3: It's Norse! Giants are one of the most fitting…

Ok, with my recent expedition into playing Makhar, I decided to look over the other auxiliary book once more. I had admit to falling out of love with the Warriors of the Dark Gods as of their full army book treatment, mostly due to playstyle changes, lower unit sizes, less of a Nordic theme, and the loss of some flavourful units I used to enjoy. So I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed the look of the Asklanders book much more; and with so many cross-compatible models available to me…

  • Question. Does anyone use the Jotunn? He looks interesting and VERY tanky. But does he offer anything tactically that cannot be found for cheaper in the army?

Those Victrix Vikings are VERY impressive. I am tempted to switch my WoDG to Asklanders... not gonna lie.

Quote from Dalin O'Balin: “No Lamassu... Does anyone plays it ever? ” I played it for some time. Until everyone got used to it and knew how to handle it better. It's not happy with divination around, that's for sure. Even with its magic resistance, it is too tempting a target to snipe a 900 point model out of the sky instantly.

It is all well and good having a unit look right, but if it creates awkward and player-unfriendly gameplay then it's not worth it. So many large units trying to move in a small space is already difficult and fiddly. Lets not try to make it worse.

Quote from JimMorr: “Give the archers skirmisher? ” That would make deploying them and fleeing with them even more difficult and annoying.

Quote from Krokz: “Quote from Krokz: “We certainly do not want them more elite and power wise closer to Heath riders. ” ” Ok. And Heath Riders are faster, have better bows, better combat stats, potential for Ambush, and cost more. So, you could add say 4 points worth of equipment options to Horse Archers and they are still cheaper.

Quote from Krokz: “Lammelar Barding seems okey because they are then 4+ AS and kinda slow with March 14". IMO you still wouldn't get enough differentiation than currently (like you say, 'better horse archers'). When you have 40% allowance for shooting you want to use that allowance for best price performance you can. Unless you give them more niche roles so they are not just 'vanilla horse archers' and 'better vanilla horse archers', because if that is the case better p/p unit will always prevai…

Quote from Chack: “But this army should have a horde theme, so light troops cavarly with good bows and good As in core wouldn't be a good thing by design ” While true, there is a practical limit at which this army can operate. This is not the wide open plans of Mongolia, it's a 4x6 board with limited movement and deployment options. Cavalry units are on the larger side, so multiple units of cavalry has an upper limit before a critical mass is achieved and they cannot operate properly. I am not a…
