  • Thank you for that post, @Furion. It is informative and gives some insight on what kind of games happen at the top tables. How does all that need for measuring and careful calculations impact the game pace? Did you manage to finish all of your games on time ? My personal observation is that the quest for the perfect play slows the game down to a crawl on occasion. This might penalise an offensive army more than an all around or even defensive build. Looking forward to your reports ! Smith

  • Fun fact: a unit of bladedancers goes through any of UD's units like it's nobody's business. And I'm not even referring to the buffed unit, just your run of the mill 13 BD + BD chieftain. When playing SE it wasn't the UD that were the issue (unless fielding 80 archers, but even then the Forest Eagles and Kestrels more than deal with them), but rather Vermin Swarm, Saurian ancients and shooty Elves. I agree that ease of use and reliability can be issues for SE. BUT Taking into account the current…

  • Apologies for the inaccuracy, then. I disagree with you on the usefulness of Blade Dancers, and the internet seems to disagree with you on the usefulness of Pathfinders. That doesn't mean you're wrong, but it doesn't make you right either: it's a matter of taste as it is a matter of playstyle. I admit that compared to Kestrels the Wild Hunters seem to be lacking, but I guess that if we want them to retain both their maneuverability and their hitting power they'll always be super expensive and vu…

  • ETC 2019 Lists

    SmithF - - ETC

    Post

Another thing that we should stop and consider is that what we (as in: the hardcore tournament-going group) perceive as a LONG time with a stable version is in fact not that long for someone who only gets a gaming evening once or twice per month. For that person, anything less than a year's worth of stable rules means that he practically has to relearn the rules every three or four games. And that is a bigger problem than some tournament players considering that the scene has gone stale. That do…

  • I can only like your post once, DanT. But here's a post that offers some more support. I also find it funny that @tutajec is in the same team as @Laik who wouldn't stop mentioning how SE cannot play without trees and how his lists are no longer effective. Polish diversion tactics or just two different takes on the same book? (on a side note, I'd have brought my eagle/bladedancer list to this year's ETC in a heartbeat if my team mates didn't consider the DE monster mash easier to pair)

  • Quote from nantuko: “I’m more worried about small size blade dancers, maidens, pathfinders, forest guards and all our magical items and aspects which are heavily under selected or not selected at all. ” This must be clearly a local meta thing. All of those things are quite often seen in lists around these parts. The big maiden unit with champion never became a mainstream thing, and we are all in agreement that the "always stand and shoot" part of QtF is sorely needed if we're to see big units on…

  • @logick @bolard Two very good players from Belgium, with international experience, who might be interested.

  • Quote from Anomanderake: “You are obviously aware of the fact that you can’t grab points with the shooting you are using, this is not guerrilla, is barely a monocac. I know (because I follow your posts XD) that you prefer going full CaC, but again, in this case I would opt for the 5d6 stomp monster mash chaos list instead than for SE. and you’re not fielding a bsb while having 3 frenzy units (wich I won’t field anyway because they’re too fragile but that’s another matter). ” Then we have a very …

  • Quote from Anomanderake: “Ok, i’ll go playing shooty avoidance. Let’s throw inside 20 sentinel, 10 pathfinder and... nothing more, I can’t field any other mobile shooting. In my DE list I can field 3 hunting chariot, 20 raven cloacks and 15 dark rider. They have a way better ranged output, and I can still field a peggy lord, 2 kraken and 2 acolytes unit for a strong offensive magic phase and cac. Ok, let’s go with something else, avoidance is toxic anyway. I will go full guerrillia! Ok, then I n…

  • Having played with a unit of 10 Heath Riders in the past few months, I feel that they are better than people give them credit for. To me, limited survivability is part of the job description of being a Sylvan unit. 4+ save kind of ensures that they don't die to the first fireball that is thrown at them. What counts most is their damage output, which is pretty decent for a unit that charges up to 21" and comes out of core.

  • Public service announcement. I have a suspicion that the infamous Gimli_1313 is back on UB, under a new alias. I've witnessed several games of the player called "Vanessi" using similar armies as Gimli and the same underhanded tricks: loading up his army after seeing opposition, disconnecting when losing, arguing rules ad nauseam and ignoring the other player's arguments, magically "remembering" equipment on units/characters as he sees fit. Whether this is the same person (I have good reasons to …

  • Great progress! The Thickets look very menacing! Also, thanks for the detailed base tutorial! It's something that may interest the people at the Scroll perhaps? @Henrypmiller

  • Quote from Kathal: “@SmithF, your BSB needs to pay for the Spear List is 3pts above the max, suggesting to cut the Sylvan Blades from the Mage ” Oh, silly me! I knew there was something wrong with finding 5 points out of nowhere minutes before sending the list in! @Casas I will follow Kathal's suggestion (and accept any penalties for erroneous list submission, of course!) Given that the change is minimal, would you mind if I didn't re-upload a list? I'll just play without the paired weapons on t…

  • I'm fine with more people joining the fun! The more the merrier!

  • Thanks for all the feedback, @noir ! I won't quote your post because my original post is messing quotes up. But here are some answers on the core issues: - Core: I have recently found that Blades of Nabh are a very sound investment. They seem very flimsy, but their combat prowess is unparalleled for a core unit. Corsairs have the problem of being the red-headed stepchild due to how ineffective armour is in protecting Resilience 3 infantry. But by making the Death Trance into a racial rule you'd …

  • Dread Elves 2.0 Beta Armybook

SmithF - - Dread Elves (DE)

    Post

I'd say that monsters and characters are the least of the DE's problems currently. Krakens at the very least are not only viable but in my opinion the best monster out there in this environment that favors monstrous units. I'd pick them every time over Hydras, but that's just me. The Elite Infantry is the bigger issue and it's an elf-wide issue really. I've been experimenting with some sylvan all-elf lists lately and this has given me a degree of understanding of what is important to make said u…

  • Quote from Casas: “@SmithF has to review @Searingash and @Just_Flo ” Both lists were reviewed, they are correct!

  • List sent, zone B too!

  • Quote from SmithF: “Let me try this the other way around. Can all (or some) of you who are raising the whole "SE are disappearing" (see title) post the lists that didn't work for you? And what drew you to the lists in the first place? That would help us figure out what's wrong. ” Quote from Chack: “@SmithF to answer your question here it is one of the lists that i use : . . . . Hope to have been helpful and i would like some general suggestion on how to use effectively small/medium elven scoring…
