Serwyn - - Sylvan Elves (SE)

    Post

probable not, or only small balance, until the full army book. We have no information about when it will come.

  • Quote from DJWoodelf: “Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Serwyn: “Chaos Warriors should be 2+ ” Full plate would in reality be 2+ or better against AP0 attacks, however we need to consider gameplay as well as realism. You could certainly make full plate armour grant a 2+ save, but it would need some downsides such as perhaps a defence debuff because in reality plate slows you down somewhat. You would also need to create weapons that countered the 2+ save in a cheap way, such as hammers and maces. You…

  • Quote from DJWoodelf: “imo 3+ starting ARM is a no go. Soldiers in full plate dont die in 33% of the case they get hit by a non-AP weapon. Doesnt make sense and leads to bad AoS dice roll structure. ” So you think that armored units should have generally higher armor ? Like Chaos Warriors should be 2+ ? I mean yes technically plate armor protect better than 2/3 of the cases but also technically a human in plate armor doesn't move as fast as a naked elve so they should have 0 agi and A, OS and DS…

  • Quote from CariadocThorne: “Lethal strike did exist in WHFB, since 6th ed, under the name "killing blow". In addition to ignoring armour, it could one-shot multi-wound models. I think that high AP has become less common, but low AP has become more common. People see saves being reduced more often, but don't notice that saves are being ignored altogether LESS often. The net effect may still be that armour is less influential than before, but if so, it's not by as much as people think. Funnily eno…

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Serwyn: “But... You already have. Innate is just base armour, light, heavy and plate armours are actually mechanical terms ” So a steam tank with a 1+ save is unaffected by anti-armour weapons? Or a dinosaur with a very hard armoured shell? Or suddenly cavalry are actually better protected if they wear light armour than heavy armour because wearing heavy armour triggers the anti-armour weapons, even though they might be on a 3+ save with light armour? I think this w…

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from DJWoodelf: “innate armour is better against beating weapons than worn armour. ” Maybe, but I wouldn't choose to have different "types" of armour because holy "£$% is that going to get complicated. Rather I would represent that with different values of Arm, Res and HP, which I think you can actually do fine. Armour (to me) represents that part of a creature's defense that can be meaningfully penetrated or broken through. If a dragon or other monster has tough flesh a…

  • Quote from theunwantedbeing: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Has anyone else ever considered the idea of having a "to-save" table, comparing attackers AP to Defender's Armour value? ” Done! page 20. Link ” That's not quite the same, it's not a table, it is a list depending only in the difference between AP and armor. Don't think it was a clarity/presentation proposition. Yes, non-linearity would definitely help to reduce power of extreme cases. not for short term though as it was said. Maybe having…

  • Quote from DanT: “Quote from Serwyn: “I meant that it is quite high in absolute, not that it creeped recently. Yes I think it is from the well-known and so called v8, yet I think that it still increased a bit with 9th age. Don't remember everything but I don't think there was Sylvan blades or lances ? Compared to 1.1 or 1.3 I don't think it increased much, but still, it was already high enough so that it wasn't needed or possible to increase it much.I would be totally ready to lose Sylvan lances…

  • Quote from DanT: “Quote from Serwyn: “For Sylvan elves, there are Sylvan blades and Sylvan lances that grants bonus ap, Princes got bonus AP and in general close to every unit in the book has higher AP than equivalent strength. ” Forest prince is a good example, but most AP creep claims pre-date the change to his AP.SE had large amounts of AP in the most recent legacy, no? What are you comparing between? 2.0 and 1.3? 2.0 and 1.1? 2.0 and legacy? Quote from Auto2: “There has definitely been AP cr…

  • Quote from DanT: “@everyone Anyone want to throw any further specific examples into the mix re: AP creep, or is it primarily spears (and rending banner)? ” For Sylvan elves, there are Sylvan blades and Sylvan lances that grants bonus ap, Princes got bonus AP and in general close to every unit in the book has higher AP than equivalent strength. Personally I think that even with fantasy armies, poles are quite representating of large armies. Not for all races maybe, and it depend on the universe, …

  • Greatswords like the Zweihanders were historically really powerfull weapons, and their size let them be used a bit like polearms. But they are quite different from the "great wepons" sword that we have in game, and also apeared quite later in history (late medieval). I think that Spears should really have increased effectiveness against cavalry charge. The strength in particular, since these weapons are mostly used in these cases to impale and thus should'nt be as weak as the berarer is. Would h…

  • Quote from Cam: “Quote from Serwyn: “Personally, and as an exemple, I think that I would play my Forest Guards more if they had a 5+ save, lost LR a slight increase in points. Not being instantly killed by a catapult makes them more appealing. ” Wait you’d play your guys that have 5+ armour and lightning reflexes if they lost LR and went up in points? ” nah I mean with a 5+ "dodge" special save On the SE boards, we discussed quite a bit about Sylvain Cloaks and how it could be changed. Nobody li…

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “but results are rarely the average. ” That's quite false actually, binomial distribution have most of it's wiehgt close to average. Quote from Happy Aspid: “Quote from DarkSky: “Solution #2 Why do spells need to auto-hit to be balanced? Why are they not attacks with "if this attacks hits, it wounds-automatically. Why does specifically the "hitting" part to be automatic, but not the wounding, armour-breaking or special save ignoring part? I do not dispute, that there are…

  • Quote from DarkSky: “Let's throw in the view point of what I perceive as the majority opinion on the DE board: 1. We don't want to be "even more glass cannon" 2. The design goal of "infantry-based" army style is missed, because infantry is just too easy to shoot down and the best tools to mitigate ranged damage is basically "use less infantry" 3. Therefore many players want better defense, against ranged damage. We are (generally) pretty much fine with offense/defense in close combat. 4. Nobody …

  • Quote from Happy Aspid: “Quote from Cam: “Don’t get it against special attacks that miss to hit rolls (grind, impact etc) and flamethrowers? ” Believe me - since this part of topic have started with the fact that elves should have protection from stomps, and then came to conclusion that protection from magic, shooting, normal melee and additional bodies will also be nice - the demands for additional protection will not cease untill even weakest elves will have 3+ aegis against everything. ” That…

  • Well it's a fact that avoiding hit army strength is currently close to not implemented, and it doesn't feel fluff at all. It's also true that elves eliteness is only represented in Offense and kind of speed and/or armor depending on which Elves. But being so bad at defending is both unfluffy and problematic in game, because it leads to very binary situations. For example, Pathfinders, which are the best example of a unit that has been problematic. Having only offense and mobility, they can eithe…

  • Yeah I agree that the current treefather just serve to take another treefather. Also the feldrake ancestor can take magic weapons for double the price, something like that could be applied to AoN tu get something a bit more interesting without using complexity budget. I quite like Caiadoc's proposition though. Would really enjoy that. That's true however that we do have an already really noticeable character (chargin WH), but except from that our character section is not really overcrowded, and …

  • I kinda agree, Imho the current avatar is simple enough that it should be a possible unique upgrade for the ancient treefather (get bonus stats, only if not wizard). I would like to have a more "kingy" Avatar of Nature, that could be played with Orion or other various figs !

  • for me, being able to take some magic enchant (like wounds inflicted by this weapon gives -1 to hit with range attacks to the wounded unit) would make me buy it. Helping for rally test or something like that maybe too, but you already have banner of discipline for that. Also if archers had cheap option for sylvan blades i would as Chack says I would maybe take some.

  • Quote from Henrypmiller: “Quote from Fleshbeast: “Why may the model not join units? Seems a good way to have a cowboy factor inherent in its design and reduce the chance of a Druid (who has no armour) never being seen on one. (Have had a few beers so please excuse any abruptness) ” Agree. Nice idea with magic res bubble. For me I’d remove the dev charge if it brought it down marginally in points. A unicorn impaling something on its horn seems a bit far fetched to me. ” Imho it's really cool to i…
