• Quote from cptcosmic: “it would be available just as before, the values would be only lower. ” Maybe there is a misunderstanding, could you explain your proposal in more detail? As far as I understood it: You want to lower the amount of AP and armour out there, so a great weapon wouldn't give +2AP, but +1AP instead for example. I'am very interested which changes you would implement do achieve your goal.

 • Quote from cptcosmic: “a solution to power creep, legacy issues and bandaids is not another uneccessary roll on top. that is literally smashing the system further. ” You would have only one save, either armour- or special save. Therefore it would not be always an additional roll; furthermore if you have AP[0] you wouldn't roll at all. You want to decrease the availability of both AP and Armour; with that action you would simply limit the range of design options, which is already low due to our D…

 • Quote from cptcosmic: “the stat deflation would also have alot of good side effects, sorting other issues which are often complained about and adding more breathing room for all units and future design. ” my suggestion would create the same without smashing the current system and would give even more breathing room as you would have the whole range of 1-6 for design purposes, without negating lower values. Just take a look at the charts I posted, especially an armour save of 6+: In the old syste…

 • Quote from cptcosmic: “it is the exact opposite imho AP is already powerful and a necessity to have a viable unit. AP ranges of 0-3 are common and vast amout of AP was handed out mindlessly as bandaid to other issues. this resulted in stat inflation, hence why armor is useless unless you have atleast plate or the attacks are not worth it unless you have some AP. ” Your proposal would be a stat deflation: Quote from cptcosmic: “-limit most atacks to AP0 and AP1, although AP1 should be uncommon. A…

 • @cptcosmic: - Reducing the amount of AP to 0 and 1 (in most cases) would also limit the range of design tools, as one point of AP would skyrock in value - I don't believe the wave of super-nerfing all army books + core book items would be accepted so nicely I guess (everyone would complaining about the amount of nerfs of their own book compared to others) - Personally, I don't like the current progression in save chances in our current system. I will show you what I mean by that: Here is the pro…

 • Quote from theunwantedbeing: “I think I follow and it seems relatively straightforward: 1. Roll to hit as normal. 2. AP Roll to try to negate the enemy armour if passed, the enemy armour is negated and they don't get an Armour save roll if failed, the enemy gets to take their Armour save roll without it being modified 3. The Enemy takes Armour Save rolls (if allowed) 4. The Enemy takes Special Save rolls (if available, and they haven't already taken an Armour Save roll for that hit) ” Yes that s…

 • Quote from GSbasic: “What about something simple as “6 always save” like “1 always fail”? ” Funny, because I already suggested that idea a while ago in my thread "Make Light Armour great again" . So yeah I would also support that idea of course . However, the idea in this thread would create more design tools, as you could implement ways to influence the AP-roll. For example: Lethal Strike = Reroll your AP-Roll or something like that. In addition, you would decrease the potential of super-charac…

 • Hello, I wanted to discuss an idea I had recently regarding our armour-/wardsave-system. Personally, I don't like the current system as low armour values are almost useless, like light armour for example. So without further ado, my idea would work like that: - After the to-wound roll, there would be an AP-roll - This AP-roll will be successful, depending on your AP value (AP0=auto-loss, AP1= 6+, AP2= 5+, [...], AP6=auto-pass) - All Attacks that passed this roll will ignore the enemy armour compl…

 • @Cam: Res 4 isn't worth anything, right?

 • @IntrigueAtCourt: What changes/additions would you suggest to focus on that playstyle? Let's take our CA as an example, do you think that they are good with the current point cost and rules? Are they cheap enough to do their job efficiently (=bunker, killing chaff,...)?

 • Quote from Fnarrr: “What are the parameters that we have for the AD, and which ones can we modify? ” I want to add one point to your list: - Special Rules: 1.) Stubborn --> The dragon is very old and has seen many battles. 2.) Rally Around the Flag --> The AD should be our most iconic figure, thus inspiring the troops as a battle standard would.

 • Quote from Furion: “A very nice design with the reform thingie! However I don't see ever getting enough room to execute that reform with those suplements. ” Yeah I already expected that problem. But I think I found a solution to it: Notes: - magnets are glued into the first + second layer and hold them together while allowing circular movement at the same time - first+second layer = 2mm, top layer = 3mm, so you would only add one mm in total (should be fine I guess) - there are two holes on the …

 • Hey @Furion, after I saw your movement tray drawing, I had some ideas coming to my mind: 1.) little slots on the edges to help with line of sight issues 2.) add a layer in form of an iron foil for magnetization purposes 3.) custom made template to allow a reform around the centre of the unit. You only need one template-pair for all movement trays, but as it has to fit all types you would need to adjust the one of course. I made a quick preview of how it could look like: One Note though: This isn…

 • Here is a first version: the-ninth-age.com/community/in…85d52d9d44d23c02bbc75c9a9 As discussed, I used a unit of spearmen as defender and made some profiles as attacker. Not ideal, but the amount of variables is too high. It should be enough for a brief overview, though. I can add the same graph for shooting if needed.

 • @Masamune88: Yes np, but the results are highly dependent on the number of incoming wounds (or better: casualties), because of the effect of our H-spell. Hence, you would have to define a specific number of enemy attacks (with different values: to-hit/to-wound/AP/SpecialRules). I could use some common builds as examples (both CC and shooting), but be aware that this would be a rough estimation only.

 • Quote from Mirdhynn: “You have partnership with miniatures sellers allowing them to use this forum as promotion. Why not asking them to provide a well painted miniature picture corresponding to a unit in the future book ? ” Sounds like a nice idea, but it will only work if these new miniature additions are set in stone and don't change later (talking about new units). Companies need reliable information, they won't invest their money unless they trust that these new miniatures will sell themselv…

 • Quote from Eldan: “You can't stop me. I stole all twelve volumes of the finished background material and I'm putting them on wikileaks. ” I would be careful, if I were you . SEELE is ever present and never sleeping. Isn't that right @VisconteDimezzato?

 • Maybe some of you have already seen it, but I wanted to share a video with you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHHg99hwQGY It is highly educational and I think more of the higher ups should learn from the experience of other game designers. I can't emphasize this enough, as I see so many problems in terms of game design (NOT balance of rules/point costs ect). It would be interesting to see how many completely new players will start the 9th age as their main hobby. Is there any data/e…

 • Quote from Giladis: “Quote from Fnarrr: “Quote from Giladis: “HE are supposed to be good at speed not manouverbility. While HE will be more manouverbale than most other armies with lover Advance and March rates they should be inferior to other elves, especial Sylvan. Getting access to 3 flying monsters gives an army a lot of manouvrable hitting power. And let us not bring cost into this as it temporary and will eventually reach the sweet spot. ” Is this the right way around with DE, who are supp…
