  • This whole project is a great example of what I call the layering principle of terrain making. You really can't take shortcuts when making terrain on this level. Little Joe demonstrates in spectacular fashion that good terrain requires an engineering/planning phase, a thorough building phase, a multi-layer texturing phase, and a multiple-layer painting/weathering phase. Without all of these steps properly rendered the terrain will have a look of incompleteness and flatness. That is what I tell o…

  • Quote from Little Joe: “Quote from WarX: “Is there any information on size? ” dwarven-runes-and-symbols.jpg I think that it is a great product, easy to customize or dwarfify terrain. There is an elven variation as well. ” Oh man, this is such a useful product! Absolutely a must have for my terrain supplies. I'm thinking of runes on stone doors, arches, whole bunch of uses for dwarf stuff. I'm thinking of putting these on my grudge buster and spell an actual name in runes. Plus the price is amazi…

  • The concept of a fighting arena that uses rolling theatrical props is so brilliant! And it makes sense in terms of like creating scenarios for the combatants. In ancient Rome their gladiator events were on the level of like the Super Bowl, with dramatic buildup and commentators and orators describing the battle being reenacted. It always amazes me when I read about how advanced the Romans were in terms of designing systems of lifts and elevators for bringing animals and other heavy things up int…

  • Over on my hobby blog I discuss my most recent experiment with Citadel Contrasts - a speed painted Hill Giant. I've settled into a technique with the Contrasts that I think works pretty well and it certainly useful in getting many models painted quickly and effectively for a mass battle game like 9th Age. I painted this huge model in about an hour and a half using a combination of Contrasts and single drybrush highlights over the top. Link: Stone, Water, and War: My adventures in terrain and min…

  • Hello all! So I've been inspired to continue experimenting with Contrasts, and after several months I've settled into a pretty reliable and I think effective technique. With a few exception I have concluded that the Contrasts tend to work best when they are supplemented with a single drybrush over them. Certain Contrasts like the flesh ones are absolutely amazing and do work on their own in one single application, particularly on smaller sized faces like 28mm humans, dwarves, halflings, etc. as …

  • Quote from kisanis: “Quote from Little Joe: “Hidden air vents for waving flags, surround sound, build in cameras for streaming, a dashboard to control all gates and moving parts ... it would be so insane and bloody useless amazing for the great games of Zagjan. ” You're a madman. ” A gathering of terrain makers... youtu.be/9QdY4gfR7iY

  • Hey guys, Keep a look out for Fireforge's undead range coming out this month as well, should be available any week now! They look really amazing, the guy with the bird plucking at his eye ball is a really nifty little extra bit of immersive detail that I love. I also like the one foot soldier that's carrying his own head, nice touch! fireforge-games.com/living-dead-48 ld-peasants.jpgld-warriors.jpgld-knights.jpg

  • Like I said, it's a golden age for miniature wargamers. 149 Euros and you've got nearly an entire KOE army nearly up and running: albion-s-starter-army.jpg

  • Unicorn cavalry units...I don't know but that seems pretty cool to me! I realize all of the cute, fluffy imagery that comes to mind but when you look at this artwork it's pretty bada** if you ask me: 48859-bigthumbnail.jpg3d851218dec0b3623fc20d5920c1dd783bf640f9.jpg-8917829743904583631.jpg

  • Quote from jaith1: “@Marcos24 This game is called '9th' Age because it is a fan made 9th edition of warhammer fantasy. I agree with toning it down from 8th edition similar to the glory days of the Ravening Hordes era. I think thats the best this game is going to get truthfully, but I have been wrong before. The game doesn't affect 8th edition but thats not really the point. The point is that I can't get my old friends to dust off their old 7th/8th edition armies to try out 9th Age if they discov…

  • You should seriously be working for Hollywood building miniature sets for movies, the level of detail you are putting into that is quite amazing! You remind me of Alan Funke, who is my greatest hero. He directed the miniature construction and photography for the Lord of the Rings movies, and won two Academy Awards for special effects for The Two Towers and Return of the King, particularly for his work on Helms Deep and Minas Tirith. Truly one of the last of his kind with so much now being done 1…

  • Those are some of the coolest goblins I've ever seen! Your shading and highlighting are amazing. They look a cross between some weird cult and some things that were chasing me in a nightmare I had the other night... Really awesome work.

  • Quote from JeroBeam: “What a great model! ” Thanks!

  • Quote from WastelandWarrior: “just try and do a little bit of painting every week man, even if it's only an hour it adds up ” This is really good advice. I used to think that I needed like a six hour block or more of time to paint or I couldn't do it at all. In the past year and a half I've gotten more miniatures painted than I have in the past ten years. And I did quite a bit of it just taking advantage of a half hour here or an hour there. Like Wasteland Warrior said, it adds up and I've been …

  • Quote from Firthunands91: “So, I got a game against Germán, a Chilean guy at the campaign I mentioned before. Here's the story. He had an extra item because of some perks from the Campaign, and he got a Binding Scroll. • Quote from Firthunands91: “Man, those guys took me an entire month to finish, and now I can't even take a proper photo of them. I don't really know where the upper half of the Standard is, need to find it. Anyways, here's my AoW KingsGuard. Those guys are hard to fit in RnF... Thankfully I only bring units of 15, so the most problematic ones can stay home drinking IPAs. • Greetings once again fellow lovers of all things dwarfy! The mighty dwarf airship project finally reaches its completion and is set off on its maiden voyage. On my hobby blog I discuss how I worked out getting the hull properly tethered to the balloon and finishing off the model with a few final details. I hope it lives up to standards of the most excellent engineers of the Dwarven Holds! Stone, Water, and War: My adventures in terrain and miniatures <a data-flickr-embed=48811881158_6159e8e862_k…
