  • Quote from DanT: “Quote from WhammeWhamme: “I'd start by splitting "performance balanced" and "aesthetically balanced". Performance balance: the current internal/external balance Aesthetic balance: units that are similar to the eye being priced similarly Between books? This will in some cases act contrarily to performance balance pressures. What about synergy pieces? How is aesthetic balanced is defined in these cases? ” Yes;m, if the two did not push in different directions, one would be redund…

  • Quote: “General comment: interbook comparisons for balance updates like this are essentially irrelevant. If it is not clear why, read the news posts very carefully and ask yourself "how do I define internal/external balance?" and "how does that compare to the news posts"? Of course, one could define balance such that these comparisons were meaningful, but then deriving a methodology for balance updates from this starting point is a very hard task. I have not yet seen a vaguely sensible implement…

  • Quote from Tyranno: “Quote from DanT: “Maybe ACSes can even find out the differences between different sources for immortals. ” What do you mean by "different sources"? ” The tournament "units played" data was one of three data sets used. IIRC the other two categories were performance and EE opinions.

  • Quote from DanT: “Quote from Shako: “From 169 armylists:26 units of "small" Immortals (15-20 models) in 24 different armylists 22 units of "big" Immortals (21+ models) in 20 different armylists 42 units had shields, in 40 different armylists 40 had Infernal Weapons, in 38 different armylists. Lets say no one took a big and a small unit together, that would mean 44/169 armylists had Immortals in them, a usage of 26%. By the way, all this data is freely avaiable for everyone. In every subforum the…

  • Quote from jirga: “What I want to know is when the beta book is released to public. ” It should go to alpha Playtesting either this month or early next month. Beyond that I can't even guess.

  • Quote from Shane: “Quote from WhammeWhamme: “o.0 The beta releases are a part of the process that's intended to result in a better final product, not the final product in and of themselves. "Deliver something perfect the first time y'all see it" is not the goal, because it's not a realistic goal. Sure, the project could just freeze all the books right now forever - but that just leaves problems baked in and would be terrible for the long-term health of the project. ” Let's not start by jumping t…

  • It's been a while since I fielded Vampire Covenant, but I did quite like running two units of 6 Vampire Knights. They move fast, hit hard and can actually tank charges from a lot of things. As always, it's about how it suits your playstyle and your expected metagame.

  • Quote from Shane: “Quote from WhammeWhamme: “In fact, "keep previous playtesting and adjustments intact" is way down there on the priority list. New designs will get better playtesting and adjustments rounds (with the full focus of the project on them) than the old ones did. This is a chance to do things better. ” There's always the chance that occurs. It hasn't happened so far with either Warriors or Demons, where Warriors had to be effectively re-designed from the ground up AFTER their release…

  • I've played against a very similar list to the ones being discussed: Lord on Monstrous Revenant (!) + double Shrieking Horror. I'm not sure the Zombie Dragon is even better than the Monstrous Revenant. 3+/4++ is fairly sturdy - the Dragon has +1 R and +2 HP, sure, but it's only got 4+/6+. You'll sweat more with the Revenant, and hide behind things more, but I'm not sure you'll end up with a dead general more. And this particular list ain't about close combat, yanno? It's about flappy flappy evas…

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “Quote from WhammeWhamme: “In specific, the "combat slaves" design is being intentionally ditched. It doesn't really make sense - armed combat troops who can fight better than Hobgoblins but are somehow too afraid of said Hobgoblins (even if it's just one guy on a wolf?) to rebel? ” That's why they could use Religion to indoctrinate the slaves. ” That would require a different design - Janissaries would just outright be loyal, willing to fight fiercely even if there are no…

  • Quote from Shane: “Quote from The Matt: “Regarding base sizes. Its entirely possible to include an "upgrade" for free that changes the base size of a unit. Or Maybe start at 25X25 slave, then have a 1pt upgrade to change to 20X20. None of the stats have to change, but all models could be accounted for. ” it would actually be even EASIER to include a new Slave unit as is planned and make it a 20mm one, and then just keep the current 25mm combat Slave unit, which has been play-tested and adjusted …

  • Quote from JimMorr: “If we should not be character focused army first step would be to allow non-mount pendulum and bell variants... ” Or just have same. I've said it before: "Pendulum Pushers" - a unit comprising of a Pendulum and it's accompanying troops - would make a good Special choice unit.

  • Quote from JimMorr: “Quote from WhammeWhamme: “Quote from SlaveToThePyre: “Hobgoblins already had totally human-like stats. What is the difference? ” Keep this in mind folks. ” Will the vassals be described in FAB as humans and slaves as orcs? I think something completely different has been suggested... ” Will ALL of them be humans and orcs? No. Will SOME of them be humans and orcs? Yes. It'll make sense. Shouldn't say too much until it's done though.

  • Quote from Shane: “Quote from TheChange: “I honestly prefer the idea of Hobgoblin Vassals, but if it changes to different races it doesn't bother me. Regarding the Slaves I imagine and like the idea of different races. It can be anything (except for Vermin Swarm because they are too treacherous from my point of view). Regarding Vassal mages: Please no. This I don't like at all. The power is in the hands of the ID, not of the Vassals. ” Here’s what concerns me in this idea. It seems a popular ide…

  • Jannisaries would need to be in addition to "normal" slave units (because "normal" slave units demonstrate the hierarchy), and would probably be a Special choice elite unit. And would flavourfully make the most sense as a Bodyguard (Overlord) unit... I don't think the book really needed a second slightly different copy of Immortals. Although if you wanted to do your Immortals as Janissaries, that would be pretty cool. And TBF, I could see an Auxiliary with Orc Vassals playing a sizeable role. I …

  • Quote from denelian5: “Quote from Cam: “I think you lose flavour by have them bland slaves personally. Need to see how it’s written and shown in game. ” I agree about the loss of flavour (provided you include vassals/hobgoblins in the term "slaves"), there are several armies who's got a bit of a slave theme going (at least throughout the fluff, if not in the army stats): VS, DE, ID (arguably OnG and OK beacuse of racial/hierarchial differences between orcs/goblins and ogres/gnoblars). ID is the …

If it's a single model, the lone model is still a unit. It has Hard Target and a 4+ Aegis until it loses a HP.

  • Quote from Izomov: “Quote from Kratos: “i see a dark elf a high elf and a prelate in those images. ” a high elf with such strong natural attributes? Impossible! Also, no knife ears I quite like this, fits the french aesthetic no? Only need to lose the plate high heels the-ninth-age.com/community/in…4f1300e831880d1bb0db67bbb ” Actually, high heels make some sense on a knight. Their original purpose was to help keep your feet in the stirrups. High-heeled armoured boots are ahistorical but not actu…
