  • @Giladis From a BG perspective, could the Supernal rule be added to forest spirits, including possible future forest spirits (eg. Pixie swarms) if any are added?

  • In BG terms, forest spirits ARE Supernal in nature. However, they are supernald who have bound themselves into material bodies rather than being free floating spirits expending power to manifest their bodies. Or something like that anyway. I think that should be no bar to having Supernal, as we've certainly been constrained by some of the other rules relating to Supernals, but I can't say for sure. Perhaps @Giladis can enlighten us?

  • @Aenarion43 Sort of, but at the same time, no. Do that with un-needed entries by all means, but it's not a justification to add monstrous cavalry, it's a way to make sure the army us fully functional without them. Every book, or at least most books, SHOULD be missing a unit type or two. If Dwarves get cavalry, SE get warmachines, HE get monstrous units, VC and WDG get archers... Armies start losing their identity. What you don't have is as much a part of an army's identity as anything else.

  • I don't understand the drive for HE monstrous cavalry. Armies don't need to have every unit type, and IMO, shouldn't. If there is a particular need which that unit type would fill, it is better to find a way to make another unit fill that need. For example, SE don't have warmachines. Some players have called for stone throwing treefathers or suchlike. IMO, SE shouldn't get that, it might not technically be warmachines, but it would be a massive cop-out. Instead, we can look at what need warmachi…

  • Quote from IntrigueAtCourt: “I'll think about it. I lack the models for it currently, so would have to be a UB game. Remember this... when our magic phase was 4x the potency of non-magic races and had access to all lores and one of the few races to get extra spells/able to pick spells? Lvl 4, steed, silver wand, ring of fury, 2 dispel scrolls Lvl 2, steed, ring of corin, jewel of dusk Commander, steed, barding, lance, shield, dragon armor, reaver bow Prince, steed, barding, lance, shield, dragon…

  • Quote from raulmartinv: “Quote from Chronocide: “Dunno, seems like SE is two partial armies combined, rather than one complete army. You have the Elves and the trees. The SE elves don't really have enough on their own, and the trees too. ” That is, in my humble opinion, the biggest struggle of SE: either you go for an (almost) full tree army or for a full elf army. Then, you look for some points to fit some shooting and you call the day. I have truly struggle to make a competitive list that mixe…

  • Quote from Serwyn: “Quote from Hachiman Taro: “Whirlwind blades used to didn't they? But they feeling was it wasn't efficient or something. ” If I remember correctly it was because it was too good at killing monsters on a shapeshifter, and even had the potential too oneshot them ” It wasn't exactly that he was too good at killing monsters, but rather that it was very hard to balance properly. He went from auto-include to never used in a single update with just a change from 4+ aegis to 5+ (or wa…

  • Quote from cptcosmic: “Quote from Feaynnewedd: “Has anyone tried bigger units of GW? I think they can actually make sense, as with 2+ Accurate they always hit and additional models are really cheap now... But still S3 Ap0... Not sure. However, since new league is letting us make anti-lists, I think I will bring them against SE at least... ” what would you take a large unit for that a small unit cant do? ” Because against Sylvan Elves, a small unit isn't guaranteed to get the effect. 5 shots, 2+ …

Quote from Serwyn: “I like the removing of divination. It never really interested me. I think it's better to have the option to be a wizard on the ancient dryad rather than on the druid to become 25x25. Also a basic druid can't take druidisme ? ” I had some advice from soneone who knows these things, and it was mentioned that any Supernals (such as Forest Spirits) MUST have divination access if they have any spellcasting other than their hereditary. So in order to ditch Divination, the Supernals…

Quote from Serwyn: “Yes compared to most archers ours are indeed elite with their good mobility, no doubt about that. Also they're fine and I play them very often. We were just saying that their outputs, especially at long range, is not so good. Also they're fragile and costly. So yes they're good at killing light cavalry, they can dodge infantry blocks, but basically you lose the matchup against any other shooting unit in the game, and to magic. Finally most armies with comparable archers also …

I don't have a problem with the basic reasoning, but I do think the application is flawed. 20pts is fine for princes, but I think it should have been 15pts for blades, 10pts for lance on chieftain. Edit: I do want to reiterate that despite this, I do think SE have benefited hugely from this update, both internally and externally. It's not perfect, but still a real improvement.

Quote from Clef: “I am so glad to also own a BH army which is fun to play since I dropped SE 1,5 years ago. Might even sell them, as the army doesn't seem to gain any interesting new options. Ever. ” I don't understand. This was a balance update, not a new full army book, where SE have overall had some of the biggest discounts of all armies (second only to HBE iirc), and also benefited significantly from the change to essence of a free mind. Arguably, SE may have benefitted more from this update…

Quote from Laik: “I'm really surprised that after years of making good rules they've decided to increase price of sylvan blades by 15 points on chieftan - which makes it ex aequo the most expensive mundane weapon in the game (with same pricre on prince - that has more WS,I, Agi, AP) - can anyone answer me why does it happened? I've always played shooting oriented BSB chieftan and it seems that it will stay that way. ” As I said in the OP, it makes more sense once you put it in context of the cha…

Hi everybody, In case you haven't seen it yet, the final updates are now out. Most of our changes are pretty positive, but there are a couple of changes to SE which may look odd at first, but if you put them in context of the main enchantment changes (ie price drop on Titanic Might), they make a lot more sense, and are still pretty good, as they mean we may have new builds opened up by the extra item allowance freed up. Also, check out the changes to Essence of a Free Mind. I'm not yet 100% conv…

  • Quote from faramir: “I think it would feel better if those things were linked to the magic rather than just a special kind of order. I could see these things as options taken by our mages/archmages and that they could use whenever they want in exchange of some Veil Tokens! (I would also give more option to create Veil Tokens in order to not ruin our magic phase ^^) This way it would feel really magical! You could then allow some of these "orders" only for archmages ect ect... ” I agree with maki…

  • Just a comment on the "Control" concept. I feel (and this is only personal opinion) that achieving control by messing with opponents is more of a DE and SE thing. If you look at fluff, stuff like Witchcraft, trickery and deception are very thematic to both DE and SE. Mechanically, I'm not sure about DE, as I don't know how they are being redesigned for the LAB, but for SE at least, stuff like messing with opponent's movement fits very well, as it compliments their own mobility. You can see this …

Quote from Calisson: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Version 1.1 ” Misleading.Naming should reflect that you're up to date with 2nd edition of the rules. ” Good point, should probably be 2.1.1 as it's based on 2.1. Edit: uploaded new version, changed version number to 2.1.1

Hi everyone, this is a homebrew version of Sylvan Elves which have been thinking about and working on for a while now. While I have made some substantial changes, I have stopped short of things like removing lightning reflexes, largely because I believe that the core rules of the game need to change somewhat before that it is practical to remove LR without having to replace it with some other band-aid rule. My aim here is not to produce a fully functioning book to act as a FAB, but more to show …

Bunkered, providing support from backline. 2) OotFH On Dragon/Young Dragon (no on foot option, move Alchemy to standard mage): Bombardier that also wants to go "So then I started blastin'" (can either boost pyromancy or get a unique spell or SOMETHING) 3) MoCT providing the aggressive "Fighter/Mage" hybrid 4) Wizard Conclave that provides buff support to the lin…
