  • Balance Update 2.1 & 2.2

EBD - - Kingdom of Equitaine (KoE)

    Post

Quote from Klexe: “Well played again with bowmen since a long time.... Annnnd they are gone out of the list I see just no reason to play them really. What is your favourite number of scoring units? ” 4 is generally sufficient to claim objectives. More than that is a generally a liability when playing flags. 5 is probably equally good, but I’d typically rather add yeomen or pegasus knights over the additional scorer. I guess that the 5 units could be something like a big unit of realms, a small u…

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “I think lancers need plate and -1 move. ....but this just makes them EoS cav with lightening reflexes. designing is hard. ” Why? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with their design. They may just need a further point decrease.

  • Great job and a really interesting read! @DanT You’ve basically conducted a naive rank test, even though we have access to numerical data. That’s rarely optimal. Also, as always with ordinal data, one should consider ceiling/floor effects. By your method, every entry in UD’s book could double in points, and they would still be in the right place. In conclusion, there is a lot more to be done with the data available before requiring evidence from other sources to disprove your claim. I’m not sure…

  • Renowned Alternatives

EBD - - Kingdom of Equitaine (KoE)

    Post

I’ve pondered the best item build to use alongside Renown. If the objective is to maximise the number of Renown Wounds caused, paired weapons with Blessed Inscriptions is the way to go. However, I think it’s evident that the increase in the expected number of Renown wounds is insufficient to compensate for the poor excuse of a Duke you’ll have in the event that you fail to roll any sixes. Instead, I’ve considered three builds (actually 5 builds, but I consider the choice to between Hero’s Heart …

  • Quote from AlexCat: “Quote from Furion: “Nova lance is not needed, as hero heart does a greater damage without any buffs. And is substantially cheaper. ” This is really interesting, can you elaborate on it a bit? On paper Nova lance hits much harder unless you wanna do a lot of "parking" of enemy units and prolonged combats. Also, very interested on your take on the Griffon. He does roughly twice the damage than the dragon on charge and much better protected AND (thus having really good synergy …

Quote from VampsinMD: “What's confusing me is the continued emphasis of the D6 stomp on the SH when we all know that SH is a flying shooter and not very good in combat for its points... I wish we did have a huge monster in Swift Death that we could just throw in to combat like you can do with plenty of other monsters in this game... and sure, id agree with @Arthur in that case. But we are talking about a flying artillery piece like its going to go around stomping mudholes in everything I have le…

  • Balance Update 2.1 & 2.2

Quote from Klexe: “What is you opinions about the changes to magic spells and magic weapons in rulebook ” The cost of Potion of Swiftness increasing by 10 points is probably the single biggest change for magic items. I consider it a small nerf for KoE. For elves, +3 Agi will be wasted a lot of the time, since they tend to strike first anyway. For orcs, +3 Agi won’t always be sufficient. For the Duke, the item hits a sweet spot, since you’ll most often face units with Agi 6+, while Agi 9+ is a ra…

  • Quote from Furion: “I wonder when will you all realise, that this patch is a 1 or 2 elite elves difference in competetive rosters, and the non-competetive rosters even with +150 pts are still bad. Like all this Highborn Lancers hype. I give it a week tops. Then the late to the party will admire the grandeour of point-inefficiency of Lancers and Griffons and Swordmasters. ” I realise you spend a lot of time playing this game and that you care about the state of your book, but since you’ve already…

  • Quote from StoffenDK: “Quote from Ludaman: “Well take a look at minimum sized Peasant Crusaders now, They're almost as cheap as chaff, they're scoring, and are actually pretty decent against other infantry if you give them additional hand weapons. I really thought they came out of the last update completely useless, but I'm going to say we'll see them in at least a few competitive lists this year. ” I disagree. I don’t think i want to include them in any list at all. If I want peasants with hw&s…

Quote from 00TnT00: “1. No, except for the might+divine combo, everything has been lowered in points. Still, some interesting combinations aren't possible due to rules restrictions and dominant items2. No, I could see some efficient combos, but not OP ones. I think our characters may have some chance against other characters, but they are now on a lower power level than with the might divine lord. 3. Mmmm...I don't think any of our current entries need a point increase...some are correctly price…

Quote from DanT: “Quote from Glonojad: “@DanT well I kmow people who wait half of a year to join the team, no wonder it's short on volunteers... ” I cannot speak for HR and haven't been part of that team.I do know that I have personally seen people applying who are manifestly unsuitable. I have no idea if this applies to the people you are referring to of course. It's easy to criticise the project, and imply malice and incompetence. My personal experience of most of the top level staff is that n…

  • Quote from Honeym: “Grails are imo way better because: a) Two attacks each minimizing dispersion, b) better ows and dws, and C) divine attacks ” They should be better - they cost more than 30% more per model. The question is: is the increase in power sufficient to motivate the increase in price? I think it’s hard to say since they fulfil somewhat different roles. You really have to get your charges off if you play cavalry KoE, except that if you play Questing Knights you sometimes don’t. Questin…

(Hidden Content) Quote from Folomo: “I am not sure why people are so vexed by weak units that their only purpose is to die slowly and keep asking for rule changes that makes them even less useful. Elite units tend to be the best option in most situations already, I don't think weak troops need to be lowered even further. ” I’d be all for increasing the utility of weak troops in other ways. I just don’t like the asymmetry of the current rule. Why would you ever take spears on skeletons, peasants …

Quote from duxbuse: “My thoughts, vampire units lose the undead rule. This allows them to break. They get special rule that allows them to join undead units. But if undead unit loses combat skeletons crumble but vampire has to take break test. Fit thematically as they are self centered and are happy to run. Other side effect is that cant benefit from arise. Have to rely on new and improved vampiric rules. Nosferatu vampires could for example gain undead. ” Alternatively, one could let Strigoi, G…

  • Quote from StoffenDK: “@EBD the math is strong with you! I thought it was exponential but I got the equation wrong in my head. I just “feel” like the effect is so much less with the paladin compared to the duke. The 1+ save and 3++ against fire is a huge difference in my book. A paladin going in, hitting on 2+ and wounding on 2+, re-rolling 1s, does between 6 or 8 wounds (right?). The duke does 8-10 (right?). Assuming my math is correct, the duke seems a lot better when you factor in the added l…

  • Quote from d'Estro: “Quote from StoffenDK: “Im afraid it’s a lot worse than that. Might gets exponentially better the more attacks you have. Generally, the virtues are overpriced dramatically for paladin. ” You're right. Combat vertu are more powerfull when you have more attacks, but you pay the same price for duke or paladin. Daring, humility and piety are nice for paladin because they improve other habilities (leadership, save, charge...). ” I generally agree with this, but here’s something to…

  • Quote from StoffenDK: “Quote from EBD: “Do you think a paladin with the virtue of might would be a solid alternative to the duke? 460 - Paladin on Pegasus, Grail Oath, Might, Lance, Shield, Supernatural Dexterity, Fortress of Faith, Potion of Swiftness That’s 105 points cheaper than a Duke with the same kit. Since the Paladin’s enchantment allowance doesn’t leave any room for a +1 AS, he may have to strike first to be able to strike at all versus some units, hence the potion of swiftness. I woul…

  • I like no oath on the might duke with supernatural dexterity. There are very few units with Def 8 or above, meaning you hit pretty much everything on 3+ and hitting Def 4 and below on 2+ is great. Sure, the Grail Oath allows the character to hit Def 5 on 2+, but the I don’t think it’s worth the alternative cost of not being able to take it on your BSB for 20 pts. I’d prefer both of the alternatives above to the Questing Oath though. The price increase combined with the lower return on investment…

@DanT “Bring it up in 4+ years” is rather harsh. I’m bringing it up now. If there are rules others would like to see changed I hope that they do the same. If someone bothers collecting the ideas and some ideas in this collection are interesting enough to be used as input for an early beta in a few years, that’s probably for the better. If not, I’ll stick with the current system for as long as I enjoy it. If I understand you correctly you don’t mind hard caps as long as they fulfil a purpose , an…
