  • Quote from Giladis: “Quote from Phoenix5: “Thanks for the reply. It just keeps getting used like it has some hidden value behind it. I just find it very odd that any of these books are seen as something that is so complex that it needs to be simplified. Way back when i started playing these games we had army books that had over 3 pages of magic items and 4-8 special characters on top of all the units you see now (i mean, maybe it was poorly balanced...). My group of friends all had no problem le…

  • Quote from Giladis: “@Phoenix5 complexity budget is the amount of cognitive strain that can be assigned to a particular document. By its very nature it is subjective as it is dependant on the people who constitute the decisionmaking group. Different people will find different things produce different level of cognitive strain to be memorised and later retained. While there isn't a mathematical system to determine the expedenture of the complexity budget there are guidle level sets which help thi…

  • 1- i will have to give the new one a read! 2- yup I missed that part. makes more sense

  • i got to play the new book a couple of weeks ago. it was a very shooty/magic list with 1 of those bastions and lots of ways to make things flammable. in the end it wasen't too bad. I got a victory 11-9 but only because my goblin king on gargantula killed the big unit of blunderbusses with a bastion due to a failed stedfast 9 break check. But man those bastions do way to much. 20 blunderbuss with 360 LoS on a Gigantic model is just nuts. his goal was to make me flammable then cast flaming swords …

  • Quote from echoCTRL: “Quote from Pellegrim: “Quote from Giladis: “Quote from Pellegrim: “ ” ” ” Complexity is already rather Freeform, you just don't like that your preferred army is double that complexity budget. Well, it isn't your fault you are playing a 2 in 1 army book, but it isn't our fault for having internal standards and processes that help us make a game you enjoy playing. You won't mind us having a cap on complexity when we start enforcing it on ID, DE and KoE. ” What to you is "comp…

  • I think some us have different ideas on what the "complexity budget" actually means. Is there an actual value assigned to each unit entry/rule that is then totaled and has to meet a certain criteria? If so how is that value made/judged? Is it a total word count on the army book? is it simply someones opinion? In my opinion the OnG book is on the low end of "Complexity" (when comparing to other army books,) by the definition of the word. why? OnGs may have more unit entries but it lacks a lot in …

  • All i would ask for is an upgrade that made him like he used to be with the old random attacks. oh and maybe stubborn...

  • Quote from BorkBork: “Thank you Gingersmali Yeah, i knew a +1 to hit doesn't work. But I never realized a re-roll still counts as a 'natural' six. ” Yes a "natural roll" basically means a roll without modifiers. A re-roll does not count as a modifier. With battle focus and a re-roll to hit you are likely to end up with more hits than you had attacks. My Eadbashers managed to kill 11 ogres in one round once with just their attacks (that's 33 wounds,) and they were defending a wall. ( the had a -1…

  • Depends on what list I'm running. My Goblins almost never take it. My orc list however will almost always take it. It stacks extremely well with battle focus.

  • The Army book rules always override the Rule book. Normal random movers would only take dangerous terrain during charge moves. Shambolic units however take Dangerous Terrain test when ever they contact terrain regardless of how it moved. In Example 1 you would have to take DTs for the wall as it states in the shambolic rule

  • OnG 2.2 update

    Phoenix5 - - Orcs and Goblins (O&G)

    Post

2.2 and 2.1 was more of a lateral move then a buff. Both my main lists (one goblin and one mix) saw slightly more point increases then decreases.,, with the iron orc changes I think I'm back to even on my mix list

  • What about something like : goblins gain: -"Goblin Dog Pile" -The force of the Waargh! push the goblins into a frenzy and they literally climb over each other to get into the fray. -All goblins in the unit may fight as if they are in base contact against one enemy unit. the chosen enemy unit must be in base contact with the goblin unit. or maybe "Goblin dog Pile" --The force of the Waargh! push the goblins to pile over one another catching the enemy unit off guard. --The goblin unit counts a bei…

  • Quote from arwaker: “Ah, long not post here. Revive it again We had discussions about DIS. Seems like there was some basic controversy about this topic and how people see the book. There is a player faction that wants OnG to be funny and undisciplined (missing that old animosity) and there is another faction that doesn't want these elements in the army (glad that those times are gone). Hm, I fear as those are contradicting directly, not both factions will be pleased. I don't know how big each fa…

I am curious to know how you keep your bunker alive and in 18" of your trolls. I play against a lot of armies like wood elves that can lay down 30+ arrows basically anywhere on the table turn one. And thats not including magic... I would also suggest a banner of Discipline on the BSB. Its not worth risking your entire command to a Dis9 with a rearoll even if its only 3% chance of failure. If that unit panics and runs off the table you lose the game.

  • Quote from Rubert: “My two cents: Orcs are good at L7, and Goblins at 6. Just give Goblins raiders a +1 or other bonus to rally when they flee voluntarily, so we can use the feigned flight rule. And I think that goblin kings should have L9, like Orc warlords, so people can take army goblins without being extra punished. It feels wrong that you need the crown of autocracy if you want to play only goblins, you start with -65 points less, and the risk of giving 200 extra points to your opponent. Yo…

I have been capping out on characters with my O&Gs since 7th ed. It has nothing to do with 2.0, Just that O&G need their characters. 8th ed would sometimes take up to 15 goblin characters... Warcry still should have been free to start. Its not an option and it effects every unit. It never made any sense to force the general to pay for it. Why didn't they make the general pay for the army's BtF as well? The logic is the same and makes as little sense as paying for warcry. I will accept the ch…

Quote from Gingersmali: “wyvern has fly which gives you light troops and hence march and shoot. ” technically no. but the wyvren does indeed have light troops. Almost all of the changes are great. There are a few small things that bug me but I am overall happy about the update. -The Shamans (especially goblin shamans) should not have gone up in points. Warcry should have been free in the first place. now our overpriced wizards are even more overpriced for no reason whatsoever. -Goblin bows are s…

  • you really like the magic banner idea lol. Giving them the option to have a magic standard would be a good idea. it would allow those larger units to get neat things like +1 Move. Maybe have the limitation that it can only be taken if the unit counts as core? (8 or more models) My issue with the magic banners is that you have pay more to take a standard and then pay again for some banner. Then you realize that you just doubled the cost of your unit just to have a higher chance to rally for feign…

  • Quote from funkyfellow: “I am a fan of Paired Weapons /w Heroes Heart + Troll Ale Flask ” This here. the troll ale flask is not necessary IMO but if you have 30 points its not a bad choice. I would also consider an obsidian rock if you commonly play against Divination. A simple GW is also nice and cheap but heroes heart +poison with +2 attacks is just to nice to pass up. you will have a higher damage output than the GW but it is obviously more points. 22 attacks on one model is just absurd and 1…
