  • @Marcos24 @Aenarion43 Sorry, I am speaking about silver helms and Reaver's only and whether it is gamey, lame or cheesy to use them in non standard formations. (Or at least that is what I want to focus on, I might have strayed a bit on previous posts) It is where I jumped into the conversation. These units are rarely if ever deployed backwards. To reference your point @Marcos24tegarding the game mimicking real life, do you find it odd that both cavalry and infantry units have the same options fo…

  • @Aenarion43 but non sensical is all relative to the situation. A generalised example being, it was non sensical for a phalanx to operate on hilly/uneven terrain, and when it did happen the phalanx was defeated/punished. It is non sensical to not adapt!

  • @Marcos24 cool, so it's an immersion/aesthetic thing? I guess I find it interesting why people think it it's gamey. For me, generals have used and tried different formations in real battles to meet their needs, i suppose I see it as an opportunity to suprise your opponent and give them different things to think about. Personally I love playing someone who has thought of something I haven't seen before. Do you find conga Reaver's or sacrificial eagles break your immersion also? The game already r…

  • Quote from Phaeoron: “Chill guys, i didnt say lancer congas sound broken, i said they sound gamey and i dont wanna see them any more than zombie congas or moonwalking seekers. Some like those things and thats fine by me, me not wanting to see them hardly matters for what the devs make of this game. ” for myself there is no anger or anything, I'm genuinely curious to nail down what gamey, lame and cheesy mean to you guys @Phaeoron & @jaith1 with respect to the discussion we are having on unit for…

  • @jaith1 but in your examples in post 20,961(!), below you specifically look for more power! Quote from jaith1: “I @sparkytrypod 4 extra attacks on a lancer bus is roughly +40% increased charge power which I think is fantastic. A unit of 6x2 would go from 13 Attacks to 19 Attacks! It also increases the power of the unit without encouraging these cheesy death star builds with multiple Princes/Commanders deployed in a single unit of 15. FiER means Lancers are fielded as msu ribbons or massive death…

  • Quote from jaith1: “I am not sure he is saying the 2-wide cavalry ribbons are broken as much as "gamey". It's just lame... I do not miss those lancer ribbons from our 8th edition book. They also compete with our unpopular chariot options. ” But why is it lame and cheesy? I don't understand. The unit isn't stubborn/unbreakable, this is a game where units and formations dont have to be the same size, that's KOW. Quote from jaith1: “@sparkytrypod 4 extra attacks on a lancer bus is roughly +40% incr…

  • Quote from Phaeoron: “Maybe fier in general should be stated to require full-width ranks to use, it is called fight in extra rank after all. We have more than enough gameyness in this game already in my opinion A 5 lancer ribbon clipping a corner with 4atk is not something i would be keen to see, though i dont know if fier is the way to go with them in the first place. ” I don't understand all the hate on unorthodox formations. The game already has an incentive rules wise for having full ranks. …

  • Quote from jaith1: “FiER instead of Dev Charge (+1 A) truly just seems like unnecessary uniqueness for its own sake. It would also be nearly useless most of the time. What are the negative consequences of giving lancers devastating charge +1A if they are still S5 AP2 OS4 and non-fireborn? This would be unit with a slightly higher base cost but same extra cost (250-270 +35 ppm). ” devastating charge would be nearly useless all the time too? If lancers are being a bus or a bodyguard for a characte…

  • @Peacemaker The assassin doesn't come close, for 205 points you get 4 S5 multiple wound (2, character only) attacks? Throw on another 90 if you want a save, can't be general. Dread prince build can be a general, and has 4 S7 multiple wounds,(2,against everything), 2+ save for 445. Anyway, all I was listing was, that dread elves do have ways to protect one unit of infantry if they wish to via AB items, RB items and killy character's. I don't think anymore needs to be said!

  • Quote from Aenarion43: “Many people do great with them because they have something like 3x24 in a list, which is terrifying and hard to fight. However, when used as a single unit, it's hard because everything zooms in on them. I think DE needs more ways to protect their infantry blocks (especially from "Delete target unit" attacks like Stone Throwers or Unity/#6 Pyro spell) if the project wants elite elf infantry blocks to see to see play. ” Quote from Aenarion43: “You also are failing to addres…

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “Quote from sparkytrypod: “@Aenarion43 re DE protection, you mean something Like a special item that gives hard target, or some super cheap magic resistance items from the rulebook![twitch] [/twitch] ” which require an on foot character in a book that doesn't have access to the Sliver Spear. lol...and then you tryout the hard target item out anyway and opponent just shoots everything else or they are factions/unis where it doesn't greatly affect their shooting damage outpu…

  • Quote from Aenarion43: “Apologies for the late reply! Just a few thoughts and questions I'd like to add. Quote from Calcathin: “[*] Other BSB options need to become more attractive to the army (or the army has less reliance on it) and open up access to units with spells/wizard conclaves so that double +1S spells does not require MoCT. Think on AWR, enchantments and/or more Honours for wizards and adepts TBH, I think that we need to step away, as a game, from the idea that Lords are the only ones…

  • Quote from matrim: “@Calcathin you know that BSB is an optional upgrade. You don't have to have it. What I'm getting at is that army book shouldn't be optimised for every occasion otherwise what's there to decide, just take 3 charecters and kit out to your hearts content. I prefer that you have to let go off something in order play a fully kitted lizard riding ootfh. Also why would you hinder her movement (especially when the lizard gets movement bonus after casting spells) with a MoCT? I'd say …

  • I wouldn't mind watching the rugby!

  • This is what I wonder, by having star metal shield, moct, hereditary etc available a dragon will cost more than it should just for having these items available?

  • @Aenarion43 re the cost of HBE dragons, is every other HBE unit costed as if they have access to meladys and MOCT? if not, than why just dragons?

  • Suggestion for grey watchers: -Miasma as is -can claim and contest objectives

  • Quote from Furion: “September 2019 is the month. ” ...

  • Im the in Morocco that week, so I am out.
