The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is available! You can read all about it in the news.
He was new to HBE having just inherited the army from a friend.
He told me he was trying to maximize his elite infantry bodies and ended up chipping away at the character builds.
His BSB was pretty awful, the prince and Mage were ok. That fleet commander trick really made me think about my charges into the sword masters.
The rest of my Infernal Zoo games are up in my blog here: the-ninth-age.com/blog/index.p…-vespacian-s-gaming-blog/
It's been a good run in 1.3, really looking forward to getting my hands on the 2.0 ruleset and posting some battle reports.
Thanks for the batreps throughout 1.3. From the discussion thread it seems you're excited about the same things as I am so I will be interested in seeing the direction you take in 2.0.
Grats on the second place!
So I've got my first 2.0 tourney coming up, a 3 game one-dayer tomorrow. I'm going to post a few thoughts on my list below and then I'll be posting battle reports as usual in my blog and link out from here for convenience:
Bay Area Winter Tourney- Sea Dragon Host
So I’m that guy bringing an ancient dragon to a tournament…but hear me out, I’m doing it for the sake of our noble scaly companion. I would like to put the new tweaked stats for the beast to the test against a variety of opponents and see how he fares.
So, I’ll do a quick plan for the list below and then the battle reports and we’ll see how it all goes, am I walking in with a 1035 point handicap wearing a kick me sign? Or will the granddaddy of all monsters teach my opponents a thing or two?
High Prince, Ancient Dragon, Shield-Starmetal Alloy, Halberd- Touch of Greatness, Lucky Charm
He’s a bit more streamlined than I would like but he still pumps out 10 st6/7 attacks plus st 7 stomps. Extra survivability with the starmetal alloy and the lucky charm.
MoCT BSB, Shield- Willows Ward, HA- Basalt Infusion, Spear, Magical Heirloom
2+ Fireborn who can ignore impact hits AP. He’s not going to do much in combat, but if I can get awaken the beast off he’ll be st 5 AP3/4. His primary function is defensive buffs with the healing waters/hereditary spell combo ensuring that I should get some sort of defensive support for the AD every turn. Likely additional spells are awaken the beast, ravenswing, quicksilver lash, and in the mirror match up potentially cosmology signature.
I keep these guys back and wait for opportune chaffing moment. Can act as anti chaff against elves, skinks, EoS
2x5 Lancers w Champ
Challenge and scoring darts with heavy chaff clearing capabilities under the right circumstances. Put one of these in alongside the AD and you’ve got 4-6 more st 5 attacks coming in as well.
17 Archers Muso/Std- Becalming
Core shooting, becalming caddies, scoring…in that order basically. The size of the unit is about filling core, they’re also pretty solid at chaff clearing.
19 Flame Wardens FC- Rending Banner
Fighting bunker for the MoCT. 18 st 4 AP2 attacks at high initiative and weapon skill is a good multi-purpose unit. Buffed by awaken the beast this unit becomes pretty scary. Great at blending large T3/4 core/elite infantry units in most match ups.
24 Lion Guard FC- Navigator’s Banner
On paper it seems like a good idea, lion guard have been a staple of many of my lists in the past because they combine damage output and resilience. Navigator’s banner makes them hard to handle and helps ensure they’ll get to take a big slice out of the enemy before they die. All of my buff spells are awesome on this unit as well, with 4++ region at the top of my list.
Relatively efficient shooting points. Chaff clearing, late game clean up, they’re good utility players that surprise you 1 out of 3 games…just enough for a 3 game tourney.
5 Grey Watchers
Synergy is undeniable with the AD. Combining this unit with my other defensive buffs should help keep my two big damage dealing units alive long enough to do their job.
The inspiration for this list is the hope that the MoCT/AD combo generates enough damage prevention/healing to prevent most armies from killing him before he can have a significant impact.
Even still, this list packs 50 elite infantry and a mid-tier shooting phase and plenty of chaff/chaff clearance options. The combined utility of Flame Wardens and Lion Guard covers most difficult opponents you would face.
There are definitely some risks, I don’t love the match up against VC, Alchemy Masters, Double Cannon, some VS lists. But I do think I have good answers for elves, WotDG, Lizards, most OK lists, O&G
Looking forward to a fun tourney and some good reports/data for the BETA.
