Von Blonde Beer,

Today is a real milestone for The 9th Age as a project, and a community, because today we are releasing the Full Basic Rule Book for everyone. Besides being a beautiful book, it’s also very important for 2 facts that I wish to make as clear as possible now for the community.

  1. Rule stability. This book uses the V1.3 version of the main rules, which will be held stable for a longer period than you are used to. We expect to release an updated version after a quick period where we will fix any mistakes that are found by the community, but that version should then be able to be used for a longer period, until summer 2017, and you can print the rules then without worrying of it getting out of date quickly.
  2. This is the first release of the background material of the setting since the release of the full books of the Sylvan Elves and Undying Dynasties.
While we are aware that we need to release more background material to our community we are still restricted by the number of staff that can help create artwork and layout. In the coming year we should release more full books with backgrounds, and the release of the background compendium. Much closer, we will release a large version (poster size) of the worlds map that you can discover in the book. We hope that this first taste of the overall background will help you imagine your troops fighting their battles in our world, and inspire your new armies.
I will keep this news update short, because I can imagine most you would prefer to start reading the new rulebook, but I do want to thank the Art, Background and Layout team for all their hard work creating this!

So check it out in the Rules section, or follow these links!

We also have a Low Resolution version for smartphones and older computers here:

One last tip for making the viewing experience better:

In Adobe Reader you go:
View >> Page Display >> Two-up
View >> Page Display >> Show Cover Page During Two-up

That is all for now, please enjoy the book!
