  • Actually, the reason why they replaced bows is because it took a lot less training to use a handgun effectively (~3 weeks vs. a lifetime). And it replaced crossbows because they were cheaper to make and use (bullets and powder are a lot cheaper than bolts). A British military commander theorized in the ~18th century that skilled archers would be more effective at longer ranges than firearms of his day, but by that point there weren't the highly skilled archers available to test his theory.

  • Quote from Tyranno: “Ok guys, we need your help again. I have a few questions for you, but all based on a specific topic, (if you didn't read the title) it's slaves. So without further adieu, on to the questions. 1: Do you like Slaves in their current role? Yes 2: Do you think slaves fight well right now? Yes 3: Do you think slaves should be better or worse at fighting? Same? 4: Do you think slaves should be interesting or bland? Interesting. They need a purpose on the battlefield besides 'cheap…

  • What's a "Lord level machinist" if it's a special character (and therefore doesn't have a special item allowance). I don't even get it.

  • Quote from Happy Aspid: “I think that you can replace 2>1 dice convertation on Sentinel with additional channeling and +1 to cast if it didn't charged or marched. Why only elves and undead allowed to have easy access +2 to cast (or equivalent). ” Sentinel already has +2 to cast for 1 or 2 diced spells. The encouragement to spam small spells is pretty cool, honestly.

Gyula can't take a makhar lance? Edit: Turul - since the wings upgrade is required, is it a 0-3 or 0-2 unit choice?

  • Also, i'm pretty sure magic resistance isn't allowed for DL.

  • So this is probably stupid, but consider: -60 peasants with full command is a mere 445 points, and out of core. -A Bannerman Castellan with GW is 90 points. You can take 2 of them, and they can stand in the second rank and make supporting attacks at S6. -They can each carry a magic banner, for example, Legion Standard Static CR: 3 banners + 5 ranks = 8, could get to 9 with a humility BSB. That's a decent amount of static CR. I mean, i know that's like 675 points in a peasant unit before the humi…

  • Quote from Vulgarsty: “i think there is a case for champions being able to accept duels but only characters being able to offer them. would minimise some of the worst abuses like eternal undead champions and yes, you can save rank and file but you must put a character on the line not just a champion. fluff wise it also feels like the difference between the role of mere champion versus the role of a hero i might add that seems only fair that impact hits should happen against the target unit - i c…

  • There's lots of things a fish-goat can be used for. Especially when it fits on a 50mm wide base. -GD of Sloth is the first thing that comes to mind. -Blazing Glory maybe? -Harbinger on Beast of Prophecy? (Or just the beast if you can mount a rider somehow). -Unit filler in lots of things. I'm thinking BH looking at it, honestly. Maybe even a BH wizard (on chariot, so you'd need to build a chariot for it) -WDG would also be an awesome place for it. Maybe as an Exalted Herald?

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Squirrelloid: “Physical books ” Can you link to one of these products? Overall this sounds a lot like what @Pellegrim was suggesting above ” Here's the archived 3.5 PHB: archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndcore/175240000 Obviously that was 2 editions ago and not currently marketed. (Still the 2nd best selling RPG product ever, as far as I'm aware). Current 5th edition PHB: amazon.com/Players-Handbook-Du…ons-Wizards/dp/0786965606 Passed the 3.x PHB and beca…

Quote from JimMorr: “Are there any plans to make auxiliary books complete products? I don't mean 'full factions' but the books with full rules rather than with external references? I do really consider making in the future a book on Dark Gods armies with DL and WDG. It would be great (and safer IP-wise) to include there Asklanders, Maklar and Cultists... Yet the auxiliary books need a bit more love for that... ” If someone wanted to produce such a thing independently, I think ExB would probably …

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Squirrelloid: “D+D's OGL is the perfect example of a product being hugely successful despite also being given away for free. ” I don't know the D&D market but presumably someone monetizes it somehow. People are playing a lot of D&D, what are they paying for? ” Physical books, despite the base rules being given away for free. (I'm most familiar with 3.x's OGL, but 5th edition also has an OGL). And of course splatbooks afterwards. It's only the base rules that are fre…

Quote from Ghiznuk: “Sorry, I still don't get where you get that Nippon from, at all. It's not on the map, has never ever been mentioned anywhere in any fluff and again, following your logic, it could just be an auxiliary. Kegiz Gavem gets new units, in the way Åskland gets new units. They're a different culture, though very similar to standard DH. Just being a different culture doesn't mean they need different units. Players can reskin stuff and move on. (A NS piece on 'official' reskins that e…

  • @Kathal - list is accurate and legal @insiko (frttnqt) - I think its accurate and legal. --General with Warband Standard struck me as odd, but it's not actually a BSB, and I can't find any reason it's not legal, so I'm going with it.

@Ghiznuk 1. no, i can't remember all the names of stuff. (Qassar sounds familiar, I couldn't come up with it off the top of my head). And really, for most people, it's easier to refer to things by real world names. (Qassar certainly isn't listed on the map in the full rule book, i checked). 2. I did remember there was a WDG story vs. DE... again, not organized, so my point stands. And doesn't need its own AB - the existing WDG AB should cover it. 3. If it's not written by BGT, it's not real fluf…

  • The thing that really helped pathfinder was D+D 3.x's OGL that covered virtually all of the core rules. (There's 10 monsters from the monster manual withheld, iirc). That meant they could build off the existing game trivially. I'd also note D+D's OGL is the perfect example of a product being hugely successful despite also being given away for free.

  • Quote from Pellegrim: “ Quote from WhammeWhamme: “but not blatant rip-offs of stuff other people already made up. ” True, but you bring this rather negatively. Remember people love this game cause it continued Warhammer for them. For some its still is a tweaked version of it (something with 16 armies etc etc) ” That's nice. The answer is still no.

New factions should be limited to armies which cannot be made with current army books, or small tweaks to them (ie, auxiliary books like Asklanders). We really need to stop thinking of army books as tied to specific cultures/political entities, and rather as representing general classes of political entities. Now, there's been a lot of demand for Iron Crowns to be the first new faction (Italian-ish mercenary companies). I'd rather see that as a Sonnstahl auxiliary book, because I don't think it …

  • Since everyone else seems to be doing it (giants, some mounts), maybe we could have 'Great Kraken' which gets a small mechanical bonus and increased base size for a small point increase. I've certainly noticed there's a lot of 'kraken' miniatures out there which don't fit on 50x100mm
