  • Quote from N3okorrales: “so in order to be fun you have to intentionally lose, intentionally make bad decisions , not cast magic and not shoot. Did i get it right? ” No, just refrain from taking your cutthroat tournament list and the game will be fine.

  • @Anselmus I don´t understand why 9th Age should only be considered a game for competitive people. The main difference between WHFB 8th and 9th Age is that the latter does not have a sales driven ruleset. That´s all. As I have said before, people make and break the game. And I will give you now a taste of the latest bright idea GW had when trying to increase the sales of their products: A new CSM codex will soon hit the stores and the Havocs will get a revamped kit with a new weapon which sort of…

  • Quote from Yatagarasu: “So I enjoy discussions about game philosophy and game ethics, sue me. So the question I want to consider today is, is Pubstomping a legitimate concern in a game like T9A, and if so, whose responsibility should it be to keep that balance in check? Pubstomping, for those unfamiliar with the term, originates from Magic the Gathering, a game I am quite invested in as a player and a judge. It refers to bringing very competitive decks, tuned to win extremely quickly and consist…

  • Quote from WastelandWarrior: “Quote from echoCTRL: “Hey, what if we used a kitchen timer and only allowed 15 mins per player turn. Muh hah hah ” What would i do with the 10 minutes i dont need?! ” Drinking a beer?

  • WIMPS AND POSERS, LEAVE THE HALL!

  • Quote from Mascot: “I'm seeing a race of green and glorious warriors. Small in stature, but they are masters of strategery, and the cleverevereverest on the earth. They could ride upon spiders and wolves. I am thinking they could be called...God-blins, that has a nice ring to it. Now, if only their leader had a name... ” Got you covered there, pal. Quote from Damo: “I like the idea of new armies, but I think starting with fluff then play style is the wrong way around. We all enjoy fluff and models, but the most important thing is playing. The difference between a new armybook and a new minature range is the former has a distinct play style; the latter is just a ‘counts as’. Before we start decorating we need to build the walls. So the first question any new armybook needs to answer is - what will be distinct about how this plays? Will it b…

  • Quote from Emperor_Zoron: “How about an army of bug people? Also a more serious return of the Ocean Borne could be interesting. All this being said. I do, of course, agree with the earlier statement that it would be best to finish up the current ABs, before doing anything else. ” Age of Wonders II (Shadow Magic) had the Shadow Demons as a faction. They consisted of bugs ripped off from Starship Troopers and mixed in with some demonic elements. Though they missed the opportunity to include a woma…

  • Quote from Caledoriv: “Quote from Haunted Forest: “Ripped off straight from Age of Wonders: ” Then what about highmen / archonians? ” I guess that would be an interesting faction, too. Afaik no faction in 9th Age is as devout and holy as them. I must admit that I began work on a Frostling army book on Friday. Up to this day I managed to fill fourteen pages which consist of units and their respective special rules. The rest is still missing and will take also most of the work.

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Haunted Forest: “problem with 40K is the same which hampers WHFB: Both have been sigmarized ” Quote from Haunted Forest: “Troops (90°) and weapons on vehicles have firing arcs. This becomes important when troops on overwatch are charged by opponents who are not in their firing arc. ” Quote from Haunted Forest: “Quality of cover ( ” Quote from Haunted Forest: “Persistent weapon effects ” Yeah, it sounds like they gradually Sigmarinized 40k over the editions. I suspec…

  • Quote from WastelandWarrior: “@Haunted Forest wow! I appreciate your breakdown of early 40k. I did play a little bit in my childhood and remember it being a better game but it was quite some time ago so i didnt remember the intricacies. Ive always preferred the fantasy aesthetic and pretty much only jumped on the 8th ed 40k bandwagon for the opportunity to meet new people and become part of a larger community. Ive got that now in t9a and i sold all my 40k models so im afraid your sales pitch was…

  • Quote from WastelandWarrior: “40k isnt even comparable to t9a, except for both having models and dice. I tried getting into 40k when the latest edition came out, as it seemed appeling to play a game that had many players in the local area. I bought some models, started painting them and had a few practice games..... then had a few more.... probably played 20 games and on none of those occasions did i feel that there was any "game" element, just that either myself or my opponent brought the "wron…

  • Quote from The Beninator: “Quote from Shukran: “so now we shifted from marketing to games lenght Wow Really wandering ” Still relevant to the name of the thread :D.And it's not that much of a stretch to consider game length to recruitment. Q: "Hey, do you want to spend 4 hours learning to play a miniatures game?". A: "Nope!" For some people the answer comes from the "miniatures" part of the sentence. Many more I'd wager, it comes from the "4 hours" part. This is not to say that people don't spen…

  • according to your own view, on a scale from 0 (=not at all) to 10 (=very much), how important it is to... (a) keep the interest of the current playbase 10: The game has been conceived for former WHFB players who like a detailed war game and are not afraid to touch a book. (b) create interest in old players (e.g. whfb) who do not play our game 6: Former WHFB players know what our game is all about so there is less need necessary for proselytizing. Besides, former players won´t have often time bec…

  • Quote from Yatagarasu: “Incidentally, just to go back to my original question for a moment. So for a long time I’ve felt that people see T9A to have a veneer of elitism. Myself and @Tyranno have had several people at our lgs mention being interested in the premise, but not interested an “elitist” game or being put off by changes in the rules. Has anyone else encountered players whose general attitude to 9th age is “I would try it, but..”? ” I am sick and tired of being labeled as an "Elitist". I…

Haunted Forest - - Warriors of the Dark Gods (WDG)

    Post

@OP: WotDG are boring? They are not in the least boring to me but transport me right back into the 80s and as such have a more nostalgic feel for me. Why is this the case? Well, an army of Chaos consists of warriors who could be starring in a Conan movie as they are all the most buff guys that you could imagine on the table apart from ogres but the latter are not human so they don´t count. Whenever I look at them in my glass cabinet the telltale theme song of "Conan the Barbarian" replays in my …

  • 9th Age as a computer simulated game with a bright AI? Now this will be a hard task for your IT expert. I am thinking right now about the Blood Bowl (BB) game and it´s AI was the opposite of clever. And to do a AI for BB would be much simpler as opposed to a medieval battle strategy game.

Quote from infamousme: “Quote from Haunted Forest: “@OP: Rules are prone to change (damn you Tzeentch!) and miniatures remain on your shelf. So just pick the faction that appeals to you the most. You won´t like to paint minis that you only chose because of favourable rules. And now to address the low model army. Games CAN be played with 500-750 points. Therefore more factions are available to choose from and not only the damned and the man eaters. Don´t adhere slavishly to people´s advice that t…
