  • Quote from Mocki: “I think one of the easiest fixes till we get the FAB, would be to increase Unseen Arrows to 35% or 40% and get rid of the combined limitation of Pathfinders and Sentinels. Additionaly Briar Maidens could receive Feigned Flight, possibly may always stand and shot and exchange one spell (Truth of time) with Twisted Effigy from witchcraft. I'm not sure if any major changes, like giving another unit scoring will be approved by RT. Just my two cents. ” I still don't see how this wo…

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Squirrelloid: “own character can never be as special as T9A's 'official' characters. That's bad for the game. ” I think if you define "bad for the game" in a quantifiable way, like impact on growth, then you are probably wrong. Of course we don't have the resources to show this with hard data, but IMO the presumption should be that the average of what other gaming systems do is probably the optimal thing, unless there's a good reason to think otherwise. And AFAIK mo…

  • If the special characters are fluff with a suggested build to represent them using the normal rules for characters, they wouldn't need any extra balancing.

  • Quote from Grimes: “Quote from Anomanderake: “How to fix SE: Increase arrow limits ” I think only THIS is the whole solution!!! ” I do think the arrow limit could be a touch higher, but I really don't see how that would help with the major problems here. It wouldn't effect our scoring, and it would only let us take more models who are super vulnerable to magic missiles.

  • The problem with these kind of special characters IMO, is that they tend to be either underpowered fluff options, or absolutely integral to building a certain kind of list. The first is fine for casual play, but utterly useless for competitive environments. The second is worse IMO, because other stuff gets balanced around them, and it becomes impossible to build a list for that play style without them, which restricts player choice. What I would rather see, is improved character customization so…

  • I don't think that kind of pubstomping is a major issue in T9A. Game balance is still a long way from perfect, but it is very good in many ways. The gap between optimized tournament lists and most casual lists is not enough to win alone. There IS a gap, but it's a gap which takes skill to utilize, and in games between average players, I don't think it conveys a noticeable advantage, and in fact many tournament lists are likely to perform worse in the hands of less skilled players than a casual l…

  • Quote from Anomanderake: “How to fix SE: Increase arrow limits Give blade dancer scoring back End. Or just improve the blande dancer’s and wild hunter’s aegis to 5+ vs magic. ” BD are almost certainly not going to get scoring back, they never should have been given it in 1.3 at all. However, your second suggestion might be along the right lines. Not quite enough on it's own perhaps though. If Pyromancy was reworked to become more widely useful but slightly less RPS vs elves, like using area atta…

  • Quote from Galdenos: “My Friend. It is not because you are unhappy that everyone is. Many people here explained how SE car be competitive and enjoyable to play. If you're so unhappy with what SE is now, just change Army. I'm really tired of reading the same people complaining about the same thing when, others, who are more positive about the situation are not listened to. And what ever the last one says, the first one just never change their mind. Stop Crying. The project team did already a awes…

  • Quote from Wesser: “Well isn't Briar Maidens just solved by disallowing Druids from joining them? Wizard rivalry thing? Heath Riders are fragile and would lose Vanguard (and Feigned Flight?), so wouldn't be that broken. And don't tell me anyone is worried over Druids joining Huntsmen ( I would totally put a Druid on Unicorn in there though) ” IMO, absolutely. Pretty much by argument we made originally. In fairness, at the beginning of the 2.0 beta avoidance was stronger than it is now, so I susp…

  • Quote from Hotelalex87: “If the movement is so important to SE, why is not I able to play a druid on horseback. I can do that but each unit loses Light Troop because his horse does not have that ability. I ask because I dislike parking a Wizzard in a unit archers. ” This has been a major sticking point in all the redesign work over the last year and a half. We ACS have argued hard for it, and there has been some sympathy to the idea from the decision makers, but ultimately, fears over enabling e…

  • @SmithF Firstly I just want to point out that both your list and @humblrs have Dryad scoring units, which are relatively cheap and durable scoring units. Granted it's not the same as TB, but I find it suggestive that you both included them rather than rely on elves to score. Secondly, both lists still look like they'd struggle heavily against pyromancy. Pathfinders, sentinels, bladedancers, heath riders/hunters, Sylvan archers and small/medium units of FG or FR are all a lot of easy points to py…

  • Quote from Galdenos: “So if I understand right, some people complain about the fact that only One or Two Army list is competitive ? Isn't that the case for Most Army Book ? Are we really the only AB with this flaw ? :o ( @Hotelalex87 Love your Profil Picture ) ” To some extent, I think several armies have that problem For SE, the problem is not just that we have limited viable options, it's what those options are. If we had only one viable type of list, and it was some kind of guerrilla style, t…

  • @SmithF I may need to look at some more lists from recent tournaments then, as last I checked, there was still a lot of pyromancy showing up, and that was no more than a couple of months ago. A shift in rarity of paths would certainly change things though.

  • Quote from LetargicHunter: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Well we know SE aren't in an ideal place at the moment. Not bad per se, and from what I can see, the book is actually pretty good if you like the kind of lists which currently work, but it is very restrictive in what kinds of lists which actually work. ” What are the kind of list which actually world? ” Two or even three large thicket beast units, then a bunch of shooting and some wh and/or KK for zoning/countercharging. I think that is the…

  • Quote from berti: “Points for this item would have to be much higher than 50. But I get that this would be the free magic allowance left after protection items. ” I'm not sure it would be that much higher. Comparing it to something like SE Whirlwind blades for example, I would not expect it to cost more than 75 pts, quite possibly less.

  • Quote from cptcosmic: “Quote from Fnarrr: “Its a really good case study of hard to spot bad design. Everyone complains about honours being bad, but the existence of this weapon in its current form has destroyed most of the available remaining design space. ” pre spear the value of some choices was questionable aswell and the efforts to change that was negligible, instead the spear bandaid was introduced. at this point this is like being mad at your cat pooping in your shoes because your were not…

  • Sorry, this isn't what I thought it would be. From the title I was expecting it to be about Dwarf Fortress.

  • Quote from Dilly: “Interesting as I didn't really find this. Effectively battle focus is similar to +1 to hit and in the situations you try to make them fearless my opponents either a) focused on dispelling it as these clinch situations usually meant they had the upper hand in some way and they weren't gonna risk it or.. b) The opponent counter play by fighting other combats. Of course the scenario you mentioned comes up but I found it not to be that straight forward the majority of the time. ” …

  • Making enemy units fearless so they can't flee is enough to make it worth taking IMO. The option to use it as a weak combat buff, and the potential to force a bad charge are just bonuses. But every now and then you catch a low Di unit outside the bubble, and then you'll be glad you have it.
