  • @logick @bolard Two very good players from Belgium, with international experience, who might be interested.

  • Quote from Anomanderake: “You are obviously aware of the fact that you can’t grab points with the shooting you are using, this is not guerrilla, is barely a monocac. I know (because I follow your posts XD) that you prefer going full CaC, but again, in this case I would opt for the 5d6 stomp monster mash chaos list instead than for SE. and you’re not fielding a bsb while having 3 frenzy units (wich I won’t field anyway because they’re too fragile but that’s another matter). ” Then we have a very …

  • Quote from Anomanderake: “Ok, i’ll go playing shooty avoidance. Let’s throw inside 20 sentinel, 10 pathfinder and... nothing more, I can’t field any other mobile shooting. In my DE list I can field 3 hunting chariot, 20 raven cloacks and 15 dark rider. They have a way better ranged output, and I can still field a peggy lord, 2 kraken and 2 acolytes unit for a strong offensive magic phase and cac. Ok, let’s go with something else, avoidance is toxic anyway. I will go full guerrillia! Ok, then I n…

  • Having played with a unit of 10 Heath Riders in the past few months, I feel that they are better than people give them credit for. To me, limited survivability is part of the job description of being a Sylvan unit. 4+ save kind of ensures that they don't die to the first fireball that is thrown at them. What counts most is their damage output, which is pretty decent for a unit that charges up to 21" and comes out of core.

  • Public service announcement. I have a suspicion that the infamous Gimli_1313 is back on UB, under a new alias. I've witnessed several games of the player called "Vanessi" using similar armies as Gimli and the same underhanded tricks: loading up his army after seeing opposition, disconnecting when losing, arguing rules ad nauseam and ignoring the other player's arguments, magically "remembering" equipment on units/characters as he sees fit. Whether this is the same person (I have good reasons to …

  • Great progress! The Thickets look very menacing! Also, thanks for the detailed base tutorial! It's something that may interest the people at the Scroll perhaps? @Henrypmiller

  • Quote from Kathal: “@SmithF, your BSB needs to pay for the Spear List is 3pts above the max, suggesting to cut the Sylvan Blades from the Mage ” Oh, silly me! I knew there was something wrong with finding 5 points out of nowhere minutes before sending the list in! @Casas I will follow Kathal's suggestion (and accept any penalties for erroneous list submission, of course!) Given that the change is minimal, would you mind if I didn't re-upload a list? I'll just play without the paired weapons on t…

  • I'm fine with more people joining the fun! The more the merrier!

  • Thanks for all the feedback, @noir ! I won't quote your post because my original post is messing quotes up. But here are some answers on the core issues: - Core: I have recently found that Blades of Nabh are a very sound investment. They seem very flimsy, but their combat prowess is unparalleled for a core unit. Corsairs have the problem of being the red-headed stepchild due to how ineffective armour is in protecting Resilience 3 infantry. But by making the Death Trance into a racial rule you'd …

SmithF - - Dread Elves (DE)

I'd say that monsters and characters are the least of the DE's problems currently. Krakens at the very least are not only viable but in my opinion the best monster out there in this environment that favors monstrous units. I'd pick them every time over Hydras, but that's just me. The Elite Infantry is the bigger issue and it's an elf-wide issue really. I've been experimenting with some sylvan all-elf lists lately and this has given me a degree of understanding of what is important to make said u…

  • Quote from Casas: “@SmithF has to review @Searingash and @Just_Flo ” Both lists were reviewed, they are correct!

  • List sent, zone B too!

  • Quote from SmithF: “Let me try this the other way around. Can all (or some) of you who are raising the whole "SE are disappearing" (see title) post the lists that didn't work for you? And what drew you to the lists in the first place? That would help us figure out what's wrong. ” Quote from Chack: “@SmithF to answer your question here it is one of the lists that i use : . . . . Hope to have been helpful and i would like some general suggestion on how to use effectively small/medium elven scoring…

  • Thank you all for your quick and well thought-out replies. Quote from humblr: “Ultimately I think the meta is shifting too much for success to remain with this kind of list. As @Herminard mentioned we are moving from a battle line of 3 to 4 units towed a MMU/MSU playstyle. And I fear my list isn't tailored to address thia properly. Charge is mandatory and with MUM, the opponent can sacrifice one of his unit to get the required charge, despite my chaff, and therefore winning the game. ” The issue…

  • While I acknowledge that there *must* be some issue with the SE options if so many people post well-articulated arguments about the Sylvans' inability to compete, I fail to see how this suddenly became the "dominant ideology" so to speak. What I've read is that: - We cannot compete without Thicket Beasts - There are far too many hard counters to our book - We lack options in the current meta. I'll paste here a list that @humblr used in the recent Luxembourg tournament to good effect, even steamr…

  • Ultimately, if a considerable number of SE generals feel that way for the book then it's something that needs to be looked at. My personal opinion is that things are not so dire, and I like the fact that I see many different lists in tournaments around here. It might also be a matter of gaming environment. Quote from Laik: “I disagree with argument that MSU is working - in our meta it doesn't - all MM armies. As of lores that hurts SE - Occultism on the dragon is a pain for all the elves, no les…

Apologies for the lack of updates, things have been slow on the hobby front. I did however manage to upload pictures of my two elven armies in the Gallery section, so here they are: the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…910b4c24ed341cbc3180a4194 the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…910b4c24ed341cbc3180a4194 There's still some work to be done, and lots of stuff on my painting table! Here's hoping for a calm weekend sometime soon! Smith EDIT: if you click on the photos you'll get to see them all, otherwise the…

  • I beg to differ. Guerilla combat lists are still as effective as always, and they still have the same shortcomings: It is virtually impossible to win big using combat MSU due to the rapid rate of casualties. However, elven MSU is still quite capable of scoring 12-16 points in virtually any matchup - provided that you "read" it right. As a plus, in the current UD and VC-heavy tournament environment I find that combat SE are amongst the best counters one can find. Not because of the Thicket Beasts…

I dropped the ball in the last game, it was impossible to organise it. @Casas you can give my opponent full points for it!
