  • It was mentioned a long time ago that we want to use the 9th Age as a platform for various gaming systems - this includes pen & paper RPG, a "Mortheim"-like narrative skirmish game (likely Avras will play a big role there) and other systems. The idea is to develope a complete world and use it for various applications.

  • I have thought about something along this lines for miscasts (the veil thickens if breached = less dice in the next friendly magic phase).

  • I think the magic phase isn't hated - players just would like a bit more stability. Making spell generation and magic resources more predictable is a good thing in my opinion - I don't like that miscast automatically blow up units either. We have to re-design the magic phase anyway and I think that incorporating the feedback we get from our community can show us which direction whe should aim for

  • Well, it is very unfortunate that you roll crap but that is obviously subjective We cannot make more than ensuring the % are where we want them to be - variance is a statistical measure and therefore it is possible to calculate it. Fortunately @nicreap spent countless hours running the numbers to ensure the gaming experience stays the same

  • Quote from tiny: “To be honest, that simply reflects that the proposal was first shared internal. ExB/AvB members do not take part in rules design decisions and were simply asked first for input before the system was shared publicly. ” The work for this proposal started much earlier before the idea to make an official community announcement came even up - the other staff members only were so kind to take the time and give me some feedback on the ideas I had. Any constructive feedback is valuable…

  • Quote from Greven: “it desperatly tries to autocorrect this into a unintelligeable swedish/english/gibberish textmass. ” I know that one too well unfortunately... xD

  • I am most certain that this proposal can be improved - that's why I put all the work in and posted it to gain feedback to begin with

  • Good that you posted this here Erik - I really liked this idea for the base dice generation

  • Quote from Necrosa: “Hi! Please, excuse-me if I'm completely off-topic but, it's really insteresting because my - very successful - proposal is on the opposite side! First, I must confess I'm absolutely AGAINST D10 for my part! (And against adding new game material.) I think that, if we begin with it in the magic phase, we'll open a door that we shouldn't. D6 are simple and cool, D10 create a completely different approach for a game. Then, in relation to the strategic point of view : I completel…

  • Btw I want to point out the following again: Quote from Sir_Joker: “Please read this: We would not do any changes to the magic system if it weren't for IP. Keeping it similar to the GW system is not an option and cosmetic changes do not cut it. We are talking about big time changes that completely change the appearance and mechanics of the phase because IP demands it - not because we are funny and want to. But it is a needed step, regardless how uncomfortable and the if is not up to debate, only…

  • Quote from Krokz: “What ever direction we go, we would need more things using those dice than Magic alone (hint, leadership). ” If we decide to go down the route of new dice (whatever it might be), yes - I agree.

  • @Giladis: both 8 and 6 reach the 6+ casting value therefore 2 successes. The number in the bracket only tells you how much successes you need to cast a spell successfully (in this case 1 success would be enough, but the player rolled 2 which is even better because it makes dispelling harder).

  • Quote from Shlagrabak: “With your statistical tables as guidance for chance of successes and variance though, maybe this won't be a problem. ” @nicreap would be able to do all the new casting values keeping the same statistical probabilities. An apprentice will be roughly as expensive as now I suppose making 2 apprentices more expensive than 1 master but not by that much - the balance between the models should be quite good.

LOL - I highly doubt that but it usually comes down to personal preference and some units simply can't be used in certain ways. What works for you might not be working for me

If you struggle with using your chaff correctly than this should be the first thing you need to learn - unless you want to get super frustrated quickly. And the above is not only true for competitive play - furthermore 3 Vampiric Spawns are an awesome MSU unit and very cheap. Furthermore I don't understand why you think the altar is easy to kill? High toughness and a 4+ regen save - what would you consider not easy to kill? Ghasts are not essential in any way unless you want to run a bestial bul…

  • The active player has the advantage of more dice where the reactive player sees the result before determining how many dice he should use but generates dice much harder. How big the dice difference should be to make it playable in the 3 scenarios of 1) even magic investment, 2) offensive player invests more 3) defensive player invests more and not screwing up the whole system for no magic armies is a sweet spot statistics were specifically calculated for. So no, there is no inherent advantage fo…

  • @Scottish Knight Yes, the whole system is D10 based. The active player will always have an advantage which scales even into bigger point sizes. The exact advantage can obv be determined but statistics say that this proposal would work as it stands. If the RT feels the need to increase the impact of the magic phase than this would be obv no problem. The wizard casting bonus and ability to channel will remove the sharpe edges of "totality" you pointed out - after testing it I don't think this will…

  • @Calisson - the work for this proposal started long before we had any discussions about community involvement. As you might expect, this took several weeks (including the brainstorming and conceptual phase) to arrive at this stage.
