  • What is the main driver of complexity? It's exceptions (like in every business process)! How do you create exceptions in a game? A) By having rules that negate each other or are in conflict with each other or are linked in several dimensions. B) removing a logical rule and instead of having one basic rule to learn, every unit potentially could be different. Example Currently: warmachines and chariots may not march. So that's one rule "cannot march" adapted to two troop types. New: the basic rule…

  • Quote from There Is No Spoon: “Breaking through armor is less about strength, and more about the weapon IMO. Try breaking through full-plate with a longsword cut...Meanwhile a warhammer or even a wood axe, while far fess versatile, will have all their added momentum concentrated into a very small area, effectively negating armor. This is why weapons evolved over time, and we didn't all turn into gorilla's after centuries of warfare... ” of course in our history weapons had the most influence on …

Quote from Lagerlof: “Quote from berti: “Wouldn´t this make cavalry in general way to powerful in the movement department? There are too many troops already with this rule. This leads to a devaluatiuon of the units that follow normal movement rules. ” Cavalry are cavalry, cavalry are not war beasts. ” nevertheless, giving beast troop type (not cavalry) light troops is no wrong approach. I don't think that a pack of wolves wheels in ordered formation. Maybe if they had a musician. Independant fro…

D10 or D20 etc. is not really a no-go...but it's doubted that there will be a higher advantage compared to the best solution using d6s than there would be disadvantages (=buying and using different dice). ” I am confused. So you agree with me, that a solution with an equal stepping (i.e. the D20) is superior, but then again the …

Quote from DarkSky: “Quote from DJWoodelf: “We could also roll 2d6 leading to figures from 11 to 66 and in total 36 combinations. ” If you say: No other die than D6, I would change my proposal to use 4D6 (which spreads from 4 to 24 and therefore allows 21 different values). I will update my initial post that way. Seriously: Did you get this feedback from staff? Using 2D6 in the super ugly way, that one is the first digit and the other one is the second? In my opinion this is "user experience hel…

While I like idea of a wider spread of LD, I think suggestions with other dice than d6 wont make it into the game. So @DarkSky you could try to find something that uses d6. In the staff forum we already had ideas how do simulate a d10 by rolling 2d6. We could also roll 2d6 leading to figures from 11 to 66 and in total 36 combinations. 11 12 13 14 15 16 ... 61 62 63 64 65 66

  • doing damage before charging would also create interesting options. What I think is strange would be that you may cast a damage spell at a unit you want to charge but you cant shoot it with shooting attacks. So in the end we will find ourselves in a discussion if phases are needed or if each action may be done whenever you want. E.g. Do some shooting and magic before charging, do some magic before close combat, do some damage and shooting afterwards.

overrun alone can already lead to a much too high total movement. Consider: Infantry M4 charges 11 inches and then overruns further 7...that's 18 inches in total....more than twice marching. At first I would restrict the max movement per turn, then we could talk about if an additional charge instead of overrun would be balanced.

Quote from CariadocThorne: “Quote from Squirrelloid: “SE: A surprisingly bad path here. Unlike HE, large infantry units are uncommon, which makes Summer's Growth very hit or miss. Small units also limit the impact of defensive buffs. When they do field large infantry units (generally dryads), divination tends to be more popular. SE really wants buffs that are aura-cast, and that makes divination the natural fit (to hit multiple small units at once). The druid, in particular, is also profoundly b…

Quote from Arhain: “I've heard "appendices" mentioned before, but I have no news on it. I think more information on the eventual introduction of appendices lists would help. I know this thread discusses Paths' more than anything, but appendices are right along with that, as it adds different ways to theme lists. I think if T9A were to introduce a somewhat "Workbench" ruleset, somewhat of a community beta that can be used outside of turnaments, is a good way to drip new content in without introdu…

Concerning rock paper scissors, monsters are the counter to infantry. Especially stomp (you cant stomp cav and montrous stuff) and high T (most infantry needs 6s to wound) are senseful mechanics to represent what happens if a monster is able to go to town on an infantry unit. Now there is one not at all logical element in this game. The kind of unit for which a monster is the worst match-up has an easy counter to that if there is a character on it (=ridden monster) by just buying a cheap champio…

to me having army-specific costs is a step in the right way but it's not enough. Does every army have just one character choice? No. They can be very different. There is a huge difference between a Cuatl Lord and a skink priest. And there is a huge difference between a skink captain, a saurian lord and a caiman ancient. So there are many examples where characters of different armies are more equal than characters within one army. So the most consequent way would be no army-based but character-ba…

Quote from Klexe: “Yeah but written at the end it sounds like they want to keep the current rules ” that's exactly the sentence I'm referring to. To me the sentence alone is wrong. Statement A shows that more players want a change. And basically Statement B shows the same as options B+C+D is just a split of what is just one option in Statement A.

Quote from Klexe: “As the magic item review is out now... I plead to the higher ups of 9th age plz ignore the community in this regards... How can so many guys really want to have this current rules setup? ... ” the whole thing is how you interpret the figures. Yes, looking at statement 2 and taking all 5 options into account completely separated then option A (keep it as it is) has the most votes. But if you add B+C+D (keep common items and put them in the army books) there is a majority >50% t…
