That’s a good point, since “weird magitech” perfectly sums up my opinion of AoS.

  • What's up with ARM ?

I’m not saying it can’t be improved, I’m saying it’s better than it was. An ARM value already compensating for built in equipment is confusing when equipment can be changed. The only issue I foresee with the built in “roll” you’re suggesting is that it complicates things when units go to buy extra equipment. I suppose “May have Arm +1” is an acceptable option, but I find that terribly unimmersive and strange since “Shield” would still need to be its own thing.

  • What's up with ARM ?

I actually found it confusing before the Hotfix, when a model might have an Arm of 2 and have heavy armor in his profile. Is that a 5 up save or a 3 up save? What if I upgrade to plate armor, does the arm in his profile change? This is much cleaner, and allows for the removal of Innate Defense and Barding from the game.

Rune of Lightning x 3 and Dragonbreath on a King would tear through T3 Infantry. That’s an average of 13 additional S4 AP1 hits (on top of his four attacks) for a total potential of 25 hits in the first round of combat. Hide yo kids. Hide yo Elves.

Agreed! Without a Prelate they're not worth taking in Line formation at all.

  • Come to think of it, GW on elite Infantry seem to be a game wide issue now. Elves need Lightning Reflexes to get around it. WotDG, Barrow Guard, Caymans, Imperial Guard, Longhorns, and others all now have the option to not take GW or in some cases take Halberds instead. Is there another elite unit in the game with GW built in? I’m with SirMC now. Halberd option or riot.

  • I’m not sure I agree. A unit of 24 horded with Full Command is 624 points without a magic standard, and you’re gaining a ton of damage output and in no way mitigating the return damage you’ll be taking before you get to swing. In other words in either case (15 as a 7x2 or 24 as an 8x3) the unit will be combat in effective after one combat anyway, and in the latter case it’s a threat your opponent won’t ignore. Since half of the unit’s damage dealing capacity comes from the front rank why not go …

  • This is where I’m actually struggling to find a use for my KG, and I’ve been running two units of 15 since I started DH. The things they’re pretty much built to take down (T4/T5) absolutely tear them apart in return. Sure, they smash core Infantry to pieces, but then again so does our stuff with S4 and shieldwall. Anyway I’ll keep running them because I love the aesthetic and they’re now so cheap it’s almost criminal (they’re 11 old points a model, folks), but for now they’ll be tearing up Elves…

  • Lightning Reflexes would solve the problem by allowing them to strike at I2/3, but I fear makes about as much sense as giving Grail Knights poison attacks.

  • I was responding to SirMC’s post suggesting halberds.

  • Not with the proposed Halberd option, no.

  • Quote from SirMC2015: “That is why I say halberd option. Agi 2 vs 0 and 6/5 vs 7/6. ” Yeah except S5 vs monsters isn’t awesome. I’m actually suggesting that all GW attacks should be before Thunderstomps, which should be dead last.

  • Honestly my biggest frustration is that they strike simultaneously with Thunderstomps. Wish GW struck at Agi1.

  • Quote from Porw: “@Dan and what about FW? ” What about them? I didn’t take any in my list, but I look forward to trying them out with their new rules.

  • Okay, full review from Colonial Carnage, a 4500 point, 32-man ETC style tournament in Williamsburg this past weekend. Our team consisted of Dwarves, KoE, DE, and OK. We finished fourth out of eight, three battle points away from third place. As a reminder, here was my list: Runesmith, General, Ancestral Memory, Shield, 3 Battle Runes, Rune of Iron x 2, Rune of Lightning x 3, Rune of Devouring Thane, BSB, Shield, Pistol, Rune of Iron, Rune of Fury, Rune of Shielding, Rune of Smashing Engineer, Fo…

Good point on not awarding single battle scores. I’m sure every team can provide a similar example of someone intentionally taking a bad matchup to settle for a tie in order to avoid a major loss for a teammate.
