  • Quote from jmilano11: “Does it seem logical for a tusker cav model to have the same amount of wounds as the infantry do? To me they should have between (4) or (5) wounds a piece given the fact they are riding a big beast into battle. As a combined profile, it seems the rules team over looked the beasts ability to contribute to the wound pool. Any thoughts? ” Yeah it's weird they only get 3 wounds despite the huge size of the models. I could see them getting -1 armour value (off the mount) for +1…

It's true that changing when the duels are issued doesn't solve all the issues with the various unit types, hence the other changes. The attack distribution effects not being limited to those in the duels is a required fix for things like Chariots, so it's extended to all the other special attacks because it's nice and simple to just group everything together in a general core rule and any issues can be dealt with on a case by case basis. The overkill buff is specifically there to make sure you …

  • Quote from polux: “Quote from theunwantedbeing: “Duel AlterationDuel alterationDepends what you mean by "not bothered by", what exactly do you mean when you say that? ” Now you cannot just ignore a unit as them charging you mean you will test at -2. Without challenge you can win anyway so they loose a lot of zone control (unless 80 zombie or akin numbers) ” You can't ignore them anyway. If you charge them expecting to roll over them, they're steadfast and probably won't. If they charge you, same…

  • Quote from Alexwellace: “I don't like the idea that the HbE elite infantry would have the possibility to be all fireborn. That just doesn't sit right with me that Infernal Dwarves can only get a 5++ on their models against fire while this suggestion gives multiple units a 2++. It would essentially drastically reduce pyro's power, a lore that isn't particularly strong atm, and Infernal Dwarves that rely on Kadims. ” I'm not sure that's the best reasoning against the idea. Flaming attacks aren't a…

  • Quote from polux: “I understand that you would think that a big 800pts dragon could not be bothered by 235pts of goblin but the game does not work linearly like that. ” Depends what you mean by "not bothered by", what exactly do you mean when you say that? Quote from polux: “Moreover the 235pts goblin unit cannot choose any fight and if it just die without delaying then why taking them? ” How does the unit "just die without delaying" when it's guaranteed to be steadfast and unlikely to break fro…

  • Quote from Wesser: “Quote from theunwantedbeing: “And then they'll probably pass that break test, leaving those counter-charge options in place. ” Probably is not guaranteed (and probably is LD8 max). That's a big difference ” 72% chance to pass, without any re-rolls. Exactly the same odds as if you'de been run into any other enemy that beat you in combat but didn't deny you steadfast. Quote from Wesser: “Quote from theunwantedbeing: “Hell, you can still counter charge if the dragon overruns bec…

  • Quote from Wesser: “Quote from theunwantedbeing: “Quote from Wesser: “Notice the difference? ” Yeah, your 235pt unit of goblins don't do quite so well in the second scenario. But 235pts can buy you 39 goblins that will last at least as long as the 25 in the first scenario. ” 1. Presently the goblin player can guarantee at least a draw (giving him options for countercharges). With no champion he suddenly have to take Break tests immediately ” And then they'll probably pass that break test, leaving…

  • Yes, all the 0-X choices are doubled for Grand Army.

  • Quote from Wesser: “Notice the difference? ” Yeah, your 235pt unit of goblins don't do quite so well in the second scenario. But 235pts can buy you 39 goblins that will last at least as long as the 25 in the first scenario. Quote from Squirrelloid: “But they won't deal with all killy characters. Being able to dump a bucketload of S3 shots into a GD of Wrath works, but a 1+/4++ on something like a chimera/manticore/griffon will laugh that off all day, and the rest of his army will eat you if you …

  • Quote from polux: “Are you serious? The question is not the maximum damage but the counter tactics. One chaff and an Auroch is stopped and sent away, you cannot chaff something flying. Auroch do not need to be managed by a champion you have chaff but a Bloodthirstier cannot be chaffed. ” The Steadfast rule exists to stop single models from beating armies by themselves. You might not be able to chaff flying troops but it's perfectly possible. The Chaff rules have their own issues as well but that…

  • Nah, we need to keep the rules as close as possible to the old warhammer ones to annoy GW's evil lawyers who are constantly looking for ways to sue us. This would be either an auto-include as it's clearly better and would be worth the extra cost or would be too expensive and nobody would ever take it, there is no possibility for any middle ground where it's priced correctly. So we can't do that. It would need to be a thing unlocked by Valours or similar, but that uses up the complexity budget th…

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “Also, it means a character on a dragon can't redirect a unit. I mean, seriously? Flying stuff would either be extraordinarily silly (high end things like dragons) or relatively useless (low end stuff like furies and harpies, whose only purpose in the game is to be chaff). ” It's not as if Dragons aren't subject to a bunch of nonsensical rules already, what's one more? There's no reason you can't use the fast chaff that now can't redirect to do all the other roles that f…

  • Quote from Ludaman: “You could always add a rule saying light troops must always align to the charging unit at the point of contact, not vice-versa, it could even add the benefit that light troops never count as being flank or rear charged. ” Always align is a sensible rule, they're light troops afterall. But not having flanks or rears means you're essentially on a round base, which is a huge bonus for anything fairly powerful or mobile (like a dragon), so that would probably not be a thing we w…

  • Quote from DanT: “Quote from theunwantedbeing: “So unless there's a duel mechanic change, we're stuck with the current rules for how long? ” Nobody knows for sure as it hasn't been finalised.Current plan is a ~5yr core rule freeze, because so many communities have complained about the speed of rules changes. Freezing for this length of time hopefully allows for a full cycle of full army books as well. ” ...that's a long time to still have to be dealing with having to babysit your 1000pt monster …

  • Quote from polux: “Dude there is a HUGE difference in power-level between a M20 courtesan or a flying Bloodthirstier and a frenetic Auroch. ” Yeah, the Auroch is half the cost, cant be capped at 1 wound and has a higher max damage output. Quote from polux: “Moreover you purposely excluded lords without mounts which often have 1+ 4++ and thus are much harder to kill than monsters. Monsters and characters are simply not the same types of units and have not the same counters usually. ” Since I was …

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “Quote from RopeZ: “Maybe try to regulate chaff a little. Say if a unit has ranks it can chaff as it does now and redirect, but if the unit cannot have ranks it can only slow you down. ” It's precisely the units which aren't allowed to have ranks (ie, fast cavalry) which historically pulled enemy line units out of position. ” Yeah and those units would flee away from an enemy rather than holding a charge to achieve that. Almost like they'de have to if we required a rank …

  • Quote from polux: “You can search in all codex but you will find no monsters as powerful as dragon lords, avatar of natures or greater daemon. Some army CAN'T deal with it in CC. Moreover they are (usually) the one flying which add a big layer of power on top. You can say what you want about feeling but the fact is that the cost lords are playable with challenge being a rule. If this rule is dismissed you need to counterbalance the change in a way, you cannot simply boost something that is alrea…

  • Quote from JimMorr: “Sample Solutions that come into my mind, going in quite in opposite directions: 1) One I mentioned before: remove influence of characters on CR. Keep them and their monsters as killy as you want, but just reduce them to grinders with no chance of winning combat unsupported. ” I'm not sure that's necessary due to the existence of the Steadfast rule. Quote from JimMorr: “2) Upgrade champions stats to old hero-level. Give them +1Hp, +2Att. Make them count to characters pool and…

  • Allies?

T9A doesn't balance units in a way that's conducive to having allies as part of the game but that doesn't mean you can't just take units from another army as allies and let us all know how it turned out. If there are enough people saying "hey we used allies and we think this method works" then the design team are going to get told to start looking into it and seeing if it can work properly, since it will let new players into the game more easily.
