  • I see no reason why undead cannot stand and shoot. Just a lazy, 30 year old wfb port across. I think there is a logical case why they shouldnt be able to flee (they obviously arent comcerned about self preservation which is the normal motive for fleeing) Helps a teeny bit

    I have circulated to all that asked that I had email addresses for. It is of course 100% unofficial and I don't want it undermining or detracting from the official 9th age QS v2 that a lot of people are putting some very hard work into. that will be a lot more faithful to the main game system and better balanced.

    My club is doing a multiplayer escalator campaign based on qs - going awesomely so far Obv quite a few houserules for it but it is way less cheese prone than the main game and pretty quick games. Its not just for newbies.

  • Splitting WS into off and def is a great idea - for example reflecting that hitting someone with a flail (and surely they must return) is a lot easier than defending than yourself with one. I also thing decoupling ap from stregnth allows better granularity, however i think we still have an issue with using one characteristic to cover both bravery for morale checks and discipline and training eg for manouvering or following orders.     From a design perspective i would like them to go back to a heavy armour/hoplite option. Archers are better missile troops than seaguard but spearmen are fuctionally no better in h2h rather than price. Hvy armour spears would be a better anvil than seaguard, archers better missile troop, but seaguard are can do both just a bit worse, not just more expensively

  • Under the old system we used 4d6 dice taking the best and 3rd best as dd. We also used to roll at the very start of each game turn before charges etc and had that roll stand for both player turns. V neat and simple, worked a treat

    The best deal i saw was a fully cased, beautifully painted KoE army for £65. 2 trebs, 10 yeoman, 30 odd peasants w reliquary, knights, archers, king on hippo, and best of all 9 grail knights each using metal green knight horses. Stunning and jealous as hell... raw lead was worth a fair bit and a seriously pro paint job, individually strung bows etc....

  • I love to play like this - it synthesises to armie rumbling over their respective hills and catching sight of each other for the first time. We ve used cardboard boxes and the first to finish deploying (minus scouts) shouts out, backs away from the table and gets +1 to choose first turn roll. I have been wonedering about two sturdy stands with a washing line strung between them and a lightweight but opaque cloth to make a higher barrier that doesnt occasionally fall on your troops...

  • I think i may just collect and paint all of the introductory QS armies on top of and kept entirely seperate to my existing collection just for a manageable series of mini projects and to try out some other manufacturers minis. Good for playing with newbies (like my kids when they are older) and even experienced players if you bunch 2-3 (plausibly allied) armies together on a side and just treat them all as one force.   • With the move to an aim value for example (why didnt we do this before as unlike aos clumsy fixed “to hit” values you can only avoid getting shot by taking cover not being “skilled at not got shot because you have a high balistic skill yourself”) i think where stats can be rationalised to read out this value ie in the quick starter it would make gameplay simpler

Take chaos warriors - they have heavy armour (look how many models have leather boots - hardly full gothic) Chosen on the other hand might - but no access to shields Koe benefit as their foot knights older fashioned full harness - heavy armour - becomes 4+ Imperial guard foot stay at 4+ because they are not usually modelled in full plate but demi plate - heavy in my book Dwarf deep watch are the only unit i see becoming a 2+ and that is …
