The website will be under maintenance this weekend (May 25st - May 27th), starting around 18:00 CET
During this time, the forum will be unavailable and downloading the rules will not be possible.
Though we will proceed as fast as possible, we are not sure yet how long the forum will remain out of reach. We might push info on Twitter if it takes more time than expected.

  • Just posted the first segment of part 6, more to come shortly! Enjoy!

  • Morning folks, I just posted the first segment of part 6, the second segment will be posted later on today, and part 7 and the conclusion should be posted either tonight or during the weekend. Cheers! The Battle of Hothgart's Farm: A 9th Age immersive battle report

  • Hey folks! At long last I've finally begun writing again! Part 5 is now completed and available, I will have part 6 and the conclusion of the battle done by the weekend. Cheers!

  • Hello all!! My most sincere apologies for having taken this long to continue the narrative. At long last here is part 5! The battle nears its climax! Enjoy! The Battle of Hothgart's Farm: A 9th Age immersive battle report

  • Mr. Owl and I met up again for another crackingly fun game at our local store in Norwalk, Ct. Steve's orcs vs. my dwarves again. First has to be mentioned that Steve brought an absolutely STUNNING terrain board to fight on!! Totally gorgeous, unreal! It's based on a technique used by a fellow named Mike who builds terrain professionally and runs a legendary Youtube channel called "Terranscapes". Amazing stuff and Steve used that technique to produce an unbelievably immersive table! I seriously a…

  • Quote from Fnarrr: “Quote from RattusXIII: “- 24 marksmen with guns - 12 Forgewardens - 1 engineer - 1 Thane (?) - 1 copter - 1 Cannon - 1 Volleygun - A Karadron ship and I think two squads of those guys. ” Not as far off as you think duder! This is about 1200 points of Thunder and 700 points of Artillery, which both point to a 3500 point list. Another 200ish points needed in core - I suggest 10 greybeards with throwing weapons, which due to the heavier armour, eliteness, and damage output can b…

  • Quote from RattusXIII: “I think there's a difference between making it so people don't have to fight a gunline, and making an army obsolete it's an expensive hobby. Sure, we'll house rule it, but we don't come to the 9th age to house rule, we can do that in 8th edition. ” Unless all his models are glued to one giant base and can't be switched around, the army isn't obsolete. No ruleset can make an entire army of models obsolete. Yes, it's an expensive hobby, and your friend should not park his e…

  • I've finally snapped...I say that war machine bases should be trapezoids, and that all other bases should be triangles. There, fixed!

  • So this is about as personal as it gets...a simple but direct history about me and why I play this game. Tell the community in this thread why you love fantasy and why it motivates you to paint hundreds of little soldiers and motivates you to play 9th Age. I play 9th Age because I love fantasy too much NOT to! Because of 9th Age I found a whole network of amazing people who are becoming great friends, right here where I live. People who would have been very difficult to have ever networked with …

  • I just started this thread below, explaining my motivations and reasons for why I started playing and continue to play 9th Age. Can't specifically tell anyone why they personally should start playing 9th Age in and of itself, but rather I give my own personal story which I think has many universally held beliefs that we can all relate to! Link: The real reason I play 9th Age!

  • There needs to be a positive thread called, "Why I'm still playing 9th Age". This thread is grinding into another rules debate, which can go in circles forever. ...although I am all in favor of any positive discussion over improving the layout or ease of understanding the rules.

  • Quote from Mr.Owl: “Quote from Kasocles: “I played 8th Age and had two armies ” I love this. The project is starting to become the dominant system in the communities mind. I will say that new people are coming into the game in my area that never played WH previously. Coming without any preconceived ideas, I've seen our FB group grow to 80+ people that are pretty happy with the game. More fluff / stories is a common request though. I will say that when @Baranovich and I play, we write our own nar…

  • Quote from AndersN: “Quote from Stunt: “@AndersN what are you upset about? ” I am upset about attempts to use pedantic semantics to refute what most people (especially in this thread) think is quite obviously going on. This also includes "no units are invalidated". Sure, if you consider using anything as anything a non-invalidation. (and the complexity budget, yuck) But, that debate has been had many times and apparently there is no functional communication line. *** Anyway, I think JimMorr has …

  • For what it's worth, I'd like to be a rogue in this thread and say that I never stopped playing 9th Age. I simply played version 1.0 for a while with my friends, and just recently Mr. Owl encouraged me to try the 2.0 beta. I seriously find a lot of the reasons that people are giving for why they stopped playing to be utterly silly and totally unrealistic. It's a game guys. A game for recreating battles from a fictitious world with fantasy races. Play it any way you want. Play any version you wan…

...the ultimate frustration that is being expressed with TMS at this point is that they had an actual shopping cart set up that showed "stock" when there was no actual stock. People have sent money and now it's trapped in limbo because that product is not available. I understand and can appreciate all the possible and potential difficulties that can arise from trying to start up a mini. company and meet the needs of production. But just also realize that I'm sitting here at my computer this morn…

Quote from Schrumpfkopf: “Quote from Baranovich: “Another Kickstarter that I followed for a while because of my interest was Westfalia Miniatures. I really loved the look of their halfling ranges and was anticipating being able to finally get some of them. I didn't support the actual Kickstarter in that instance but rather waited until the company actually had stock available in its store. Their halfling Kickstarter was started in like 2015. Nobody saw any actual product until I think almost two…

  • Quote from Vespacian: “How’s part 5 looking? ” Getting there...been a rough week in the real world, lol...is on the way though. Sorry for the delay!

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “Quote from Baranovich: “going back to a single-row stat line. ” The reason for at least two stat rows is because of models with multiple attacking parts. Even Age of Sigmar has a fairly enlarged statline with an area for global/defensive properties and then lines for the attacking parts: the-ninth-age.com/index.php?at…ae797551bf91be9af4d8cfced ” Yeah, that's a good point. I guess in AOS I don't notice it as much....maybe the way it's arranged or something. Perhaps if I …

  • I think less complexity should also mean going back to a single-row stat line. I played the beta and I found the triple stat line way too cumbersome. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet or I'm simply not as mechanically smart as other players, but the triple-line felt heavy and it made the unit feel top-heavy. Plus as the OP points out, often times the stats are redundnant which begs the question why have two different stats which are always or so often identical. I found myself constanty mixing u…

Quote from Sir_Sully: “Before I respond, I'd like people to know that I pledged to the kickstarter and so if TMS don't deliver I will lose out to the tune of about £200. Quote from Dan: “And what about the handful of people (that we know of) who are out money from purchasing products on TMS' website? Surely that's not a "failed investment"? ” Short Answer: This is basically the same unless you paid by Credit Card or PayPal or another similar platform which offer additional guarantees in these si…
