  • Quote from Giladis: “I would like to add circumstantial evidence that the correct price for TB lies somewhere between 204.1 and 204.0 by the example the event I am going to this weekend suddenly got two SE armies with 18 TB when the TO announced 204.0 instead of 204.1 would be used. Which means we are probably close to a correct price, we just need an iteration or two to get it right. ” I am perfectly willing to believe that the original pricing might make 3x6 TB a little too attractive (althoug…

  • Quote from eggsPR: “I don’t buy the immobility argument, at all. You only need to be mobile enough to sit on objectives to force an easy autopilot 13-7 vs anything. Since when do stubborn units care about being outmanoeuvred? That’s the whole point of being stubborn! Even if they were flanked, they’d only need to hold for a round before the cavalry comes in and cleans up any unit foolish enough to try and break said stubborn unit. 18 ” It's not about whether your opponent can maneuver the TB, bu…

  • Quote from eggsPR: “The instant Thickets went to S5 all day was when they became auto-include-maxed-out. They're too good not to take. MI ITP S5 4+ armour 5+ ward Mostly stubborn (almost always with forest Druidism spell) Raises wounds back (along with those champs) with Druidism SCORING And you can take max 18... Then they got post-hotfix "nerfed" being allowed to have.... 18... when they could've just made them 0-12 models. Oh well, this year's ETC will be ThicketGate, mark my words. ” If they…

  • I don't have enough experience with recent iterations of HE to offer much insight. I would suggest though, that some of your other thoughts on Elven design apply here. In my limited experience, the gunline + counter charge style relies on weakening units with shooting and magic, then breaking them quickly on the charge. As there are only a few charging units, they can be overwhelmed if they don't break the weakened units quickly. Similarly, they also rely on the zoning threat of heavy hitters. I…

  • Quote from Salix: “I'm going to call it now; thicket beasts will get a nerf, price increase, or both come Autumn. Second after the full rewrite neither thicket beasts or pathfinders will be recognizable, if they are even included by name. ” I don't know about price, but I don't see a Nerf in design happening at all. How do you expect either unit to change? Honestly, I can't see any major change to TB happening in the full redesign, and while PF could change, I really can't see it being anything …

  • I think most of the immediate problems with SE come sown to pricing, which will see tweaks before everything is locked down. I think SE need one last round of redesign, mainly just to address the defensive issues facing our characters. The AP buff was very welcome, but the biggest issue was defense, and I don't think the changes there went far enough. A couple of magic item changes to add defences, maybe another look at the unicorn (even if just a roll-back), and another crack at treesinging, an…

  • A WH Prince in a unit of WH is insanely blendy, but zoning/countercharge is all they are really good for, because frenzy makes them too unreliable (especially for such an expensive unit) to use more aggressively. I think we may be stuck with that role though, because if we made them more reliable, it makes it too easy to play 4-5 turns of pure avoidance, then grab points with last turn combo charges. That style is still possible, but with frenzy, our hardest hitting hammer unit is unreliable eno…

  • Quote from Vespacian: “Agreed, the rules should match the base size. We made an entire thread with tons of good ideas on how to achieve this: Ancient Dragon- Current State and Future Design ” I don't envy you this task. With a smaller base size, it would be easierto get right, but with such a large base size, it's going to be tough to make it strong enough without making it op or excessively RPS.

  • Quote from ninepaces: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Quote from doctorgonzo: “it even cant grind S5 Units anymore....piece of Garbage! ” I think this was kind of the point, so it was less RPS and can be stopped by armies without cannons.I know as SE, at R7, my choices were basically pray my opponent fluff dispelling the Divination Magic Missiles, or that my opponent was stupid enough to get bogged down within range of a treefather. Oh, or avoid it and direct all of my army's shooting at it for 4-5…

  • If the ring was 5pts cheaper, you could run HWotF, Mithril, Ring, Touch of Greatness halved. Decent defense, and you can nullify enemy weapon if you need a little help staying alive, or if you are confident you will survive anyway, nullify defensive items which should make the S6 Ap3, (usually hitting on 2+) count for more. Edit: I know skirmish LG are out of favour atm, but that's where I'd stick a character like this. The ring is definitely over priced though.

  • Since the unicorn is under discussion, I want to run something by you guys. When we were discussing possible designs, my opinion was that rather than replacing the MR, we should build on it, by adding another unit-wide defennsive buff type effect. It fits with the idea of the unicorn kind of radiating protective energies, and I thought that even something small like a 6+ aegis or Regen save would be a nice addition to the MR, making the unicorn mage a decent unit buffer. I was particularly looki…

  • Quote from SirMC2015: “Yes, but now models have the ability to hit on 2’s. ” Which only really benefits superior high OS models, primarily OS8+. Again, a Nerf to mid range WS such as Ws5 Elven Elites who have gone from never being hit on better than 3+, and never hitting on worse than 4+, to sometimes being hit on 2+ AND hitting on 5+. And on the rare occasion we do have high enough OS for that to matter, it usually still doesn't matter because of LR. That's in addition to the Nerf that OS 2 now…

  • A unit of 12 will kill 5 T3 chaff at short range in a single round too, and they are far more maneuverable, with a much smaller frontage than a wide unit of 20, and don't lose shots when moving like a deep unit. Bump it up to 14 and you have a solid base for delivering S4 shots at close range, without being cumbersome to wheel around, can take an extra casualty before panic tessts compared to 12, and it's a small enough unit to push forward behind combat units and fire through the gap between fr…

  • Quote from Adam: “Quote from Giladis: “Not sure how much can be done since Os/Ds 6 is seen as the ceiling for non characters and as much as we would like to have better DS I am not sure others would appreciate our troops suddenly having the same DS as their characters. I'll give you that. Elven design space is not wide and it will be a challenge to get the best out of it. But it is a challenge I am looking forward to it. ” What about considering adding parry to units instead of buffing their DS …

  • Quote from Giladis: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “So the solution is make Elves continue to be no harder to hit than a skeleton with a shield? ” Yes that is the intention broadly speaking, but the issue is not with the elves but with the low end troops like Skeletons and Goblins. Without the parry offered by shields to a degree goblins but far more skeletons due to crumble are just so worthless our points scale just cannot cover them in a meaningful manner, while at same time being able to compen…

  • Quote from Darksaga: “Don't people think that characters in 9th age are getting kind of ridiculous? Everybody has a million attacks of high str and ap. Quote from BRB: “... miniatures war game in which two grand armies clash in an epic battle ... ” What we are slowly getting is grand heroes who clash in an epic battle. ” I don't entirely disagree with you, but it hasn't reached 4e/5e Herohammer levels yet, so it could be worse. In fact, with the separation of Strength and AP, and the changes to …

  • Quote from DJWoodelf: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “...The point of having both restrictions is that it restricts all-out shooty avoidance, but if someone wants to go a little heavier on shooting by bringing 2 or 3 units of SA for less mobile bulk firepower, this lets them, while just the % cap alone doesn't. ... ” With SA being priced at 265pts/10models this idea might just burst. ” Yeah, I actually thought that they might come DOWN in price slightly. Should have known better.
