Quote from Xeonic: “Quote from Arrahed: “Quote from Xeonic: “Hey @Arrahed, the server seems to be down again ” It seems to work for me. Can you describe what specific action caused an issue and what kind of image file you were uploading? That will help me track down the issue. ” Just can't reach the IP adress sometimes, not sure if it's cause you've taken it down due to maintenance or it just drops off on its own. Can't get into the unit card tool itself, happened twice this week. ” Thanks for l…

  • Quote from Hachiman Taro: “Quote from Arrahed: “Very interesting concept. I'd be interested in the pricing of Pathfinders. ” Not to discourage the asking of that specifically, but I think I can provide some context that might help with understanding it: The couple of big tournaments run during the update discussions (WTC and TEC) as well as a bunch of anecdotal evidence suggested 2x maxxed Pathfinder units were being quite over selected in 2.03 in competitive play. This fed into a general feelin…

Is there a way I can my hands on the LATEX files for the slim books? They should (by necessity) be in computer readable format. I could try to parse them and create pre-configured cards for my Unit Card Tool. Basically you would select the unit you want to create a card for, get all input boxes pre-filled with the documented values and can then make custmizations, upload an image and get a card. I could add some simple scripts to automatically expand nested rules and weird conditionals like 'Stu…

Quote from kisanis: “*whispers in thread* QUIIIICKSTAAAART EDITIONNNNN *vanishes* ” While I agree that the QS rules are great and probably deserve more attention, they should not be used as an excuse to not make the main rules as user friendly and logically consistent as possible.

Quote from Lagerlof: “But remembering what rules come with size and troop type? That can't possible be harder than learning the ABC.. ” How many times in the last few months has the ABC changed, requiring you to relearn it and/or selectively forgetting letters that are no longer part of it?

Quote from Wstanley: “I know that @Arrahed is designing a unit card tool, might be useful to have a set of completed cards that beginners can easily download and print out. ” Sounds like a great idea. I could add a set of pre-made cards for the quickstarter rules to the tool. The only (potentially big) issue is that I would need artwork that I could use. As long as users upload images themselves (copyrighted or not) I don't have a problem. As soon as I distribute artwork that I am not allowed to…

  • My first impression is very positive. I don't like everything, but I accept that compromises had to be made. *starts dusting his Kestrel models* I also want to give a big to the SE ACS team, who, in my opinion, did an excellent job of gathering community feedback and representing the community in the balancing/design process. I feel pretty much all discussions we had in this subforum over the last few months are reflected by the changes in one way or another.

  • In my meta, Druidism is a rather rare lore. It seems to work really well with certain BH lists. But in those cases, the scary spells is not the Attribute but the buff spells. I am sure that SA can build some effective lists around Druidism as well, but those are not popular in my meta. I usually play SE and have very unrestricted and cheap access to Druidsm. And I almost never take it. I just doesn't work well with the army. The buff spells are not very useful because they target a single unit, …

  • Quote from Teowulff: “Quote from Arrahed: “Funnily enough, Sea Guard with shields are one of the most powerful units in the HE roster. ” Care to elaborate why you would rate Sea Guard so powerful?I'd say shooting-wise and resilience-wise, units like Bombardiers are a lot better value for the money. ” I was talking about the Total War: Warhammer II version of Sea Guard. Should have made that clearer. Context gets lost easily with nested quoting. The 'funny' thing about that is that even though th…

  • Quote from ramesses2: “Funnily enough, it's not really true that HE are particularly in TW:WH tough. In Legendary your optimal go-to army is basically archers and RBTs with tanky characters and net of amyntok for crowd control (sounds familiar?), and in multiplayer archers are still your mainline troop because they are damn strong and have the longest reach in the game for shooting infantry. High elves actually don't have that much resilience, TBH - they have very low numbers for the cost and bo…

  • I am against that dice roll reduction method. Less random results might be tempting, but we would get some very weird probability distributions. Imagine six bow shots hit a dragon. They wound on six, which means one wound. No more, no less. Compare that to 5 hits. Now the range of possible wounds is 0 to 5, which can be a bigger thread potential than one guaranteed wound. The same anomaly wound occur every six hits. That cannot be satisfying for anyone. Also whiffing an attack becomes impossible…

  • Quote from Scorbol: “I would really much be in favor of not allowing to mesure anymore, it bring much more tactical depth and removes cheasy moves. But I guess it will never happend. ” I think allowing to measure everything is a blessing. If it were not allowed, players would search and find all kinds of semi-legal hacks to work around that. For example declaring a shooting attack on a clearly impossible target just to be able to measure the distance, which can then used to deduct other distance…

I made an update to the tool. Bug Fixes: - Unit Size and Unit Type are now compatible with the current rule set. New Features: - @Greven added the option to save and later restore sessions. (Sorry for taking so long to actually integrate the feature. ) That way you don't have to redo all your cards once your session expires. There will be a button called 'Save Session' next to the 'Download Cards' button. Pressing that button will download the current state of your session compressed in a zip fi…

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “Quote from Adam: “Actually it could just be done by measuring from the farthest corner of the unit front ” So this is what that looks like, approximated on a finite grid: the-ninth-age.com/index.php?at…12af8837ad7d0cfa9be81241c Current (left), Furthest corner (right) I definitely get the feeling that the shape of the threatened area isn't quite right in @Adam 's suggestion, but it's elegant and simple. In particular, the charger can threaten units on the side a bit too …

  • While I like the new magic system much better than the old one, the token system does feel like mechanical overkill. It is not really time consuming. But it is a surprisingly complicated system that only provides very limited player choice. I'd guess that in 90% of the cases there is one very obvious choice how to convert Veil Tokens. Having that much mechanical overhead for 10% of the cases seems unnecessary. Back to time sinks: I don't think the new magic phase is a bigger time sink than the o…
