  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “Quote from wombat: “Phil Barker the author of all of these Rules must be in his late 80s by now. Whilst I do not want to wish him any ill luck I feel that when he passes on it will be the end of an er ” yeah that's sad. I had a look at the rules, it has a distinctive style. I think you could probably get a lot of the feel of a historical game by playing with ninth age rules with a few things taken out, such as monsters and flashy characters. But something like AoS will …

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “Quote from wombat: “LOL . As one of these old guys who still plays WRG Ancients 7th Edition which easily predates DBA I found this really funny. The main gaming club in Dublin still has a good turn out of Ancient players EVERY wednesday . ” Serious question: Do you think that younger people will pick up WRG games or DBA as they grow older? ” No is the short answer. I started with WRG 3rd Edition in 1972. DBA was replaced with DBM which was replaced by DBMM whose 2nd Edi…

  • Quote from Klexe: “My opinion is that heroes heart is fine and all other weapons are just to bad. ” I fully agree. However this short fall is not limited to weapons. The choice for armour enhancement for non standard models is even worse.

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “That's pretty good. So if T9A implemented better scaling, made it more convenient to buy an army with a few clicks, and maybe partnered with some painting people in eastern Europe so I could buy 1500 points of WDG, painted to 3 colour minimum, for £250, without having to do all the legwork myself, it's reasonable to think that that 50-80 might go up a bit And maybe you could add on a better website, some marketing, having all the books done with art etc by the end of th…

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “I mean, I think we'd all agree that the infamous board game, The Campaign For North Africa, is needlessly complicated because it focuses on details well below the strategic level of the game (including who drives your supply trucks, what kind of containers you store oil in, and the italian need for an extra ration of water to boil for pasta). Those things make a difference, but they also distract from the actual game. ” Little know fact time. The Italians were the First…

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “Except there isn't any strategic depth added. And it removes depth from army building by forcing compulsory choices (gear, magic items, wizard bunkers). ” Depends on Army and Build Used IMHO. DH Army. If you are using Deep Watch or Clan Warriors as your main Fighting Unit due to their low damage output you have to use your Character allowance on Weapons enhancements. If you are using Kings Guard with GW you may have less defence but much higher offence. End result your …

Quote from Grouchy Badger: “Quote from yrtomin: “Quote from Squirrelloid: “Is it ever taken? I mean +2Off +2Agility is... why? ” ” ” I use it on the odd occasion. I have a very strange all mounted EofS list with 3 captains on Pegasus. The third Captain has Supernatural Dexterity combined with Alchemists Alloy. Total 55 pts. Therefore combined Nett + 2 Agility plus + 1 Armour plus Magical Attacks for the 55 pts. Not great but could be worse. With the limited options in the BRB for non standard si…

  • Quote from Fnarrr: “If we had a vote going, I would go for Rangers automatically coming with TWs and counting toward the CT category, with the option to replace the TWs with Xbows - so combat rangers not being a thing that exists anymore, and therefore allowing smaller starting sizes. ” I Would leave them as they are. There is a case for access to both shooting options. And if you consider the role of Rangers in Dwarf Society would you really have Dwarfs out in the free world without some form o…

  • Quote from Mojzesz: “I have never fielded them with GW, but if you are so confident about them maybe i should think that over and give them a shot. ” Couple of weeks ago I was playing against SA. Opponent was using 1x2 plus 1x1 weapon beasts. With the Skirmish Rangers I shot him up at range with the crossbows, he closed but his shooting with spikes was not good. Due to Skirmish - Harder to hit, Toughness 4 - harder to wound, Good armour save - Hvy Armour and Shield. Closed distance by Marching s…

  • Quote from Mojzesz: “Quote from Fnarrr: “It won't happen with the miners, because of ambush they can deliver TW quite well. TWs on Rangers are just...bad it may end up legit there ” I assume that improving their Throwing Weapons aim to (3+) without any cost increase is not an option. I ocasionally run units of 9 with skirmish and both crossbows and tws because it's only 1ppm (total 225pts) and usually perfectly fit with filling Clan's Thunder limit. Also TW on them are better in some situations …

  • Quote from Baranovich: “Quote from Pellegrim: “not really ” ” And may I add, think of the independent Companies , mostly small companies, who show support for 9th Age on their web pages. Are you really suggesting that we ,as 9th Age players should even think of testing their support ? A Change of Name and Logo at this time would IMHO be wrong at all levels.

    Post

Quote from FlyingScanian: “Looking at my warlord (who would then be a dwarven King if I field him in T9A), what is a good way to equip him? Specifically, is it a good/bad idea to take Shield Bearers? (I of course want my warlord to be a bit special, which can be tricky to truly do on a 20x20mm base) ” I would take Shield Bearers. It makes the King / Thane stand out. It also increases both Defence and Attacks without reducing your character allowance. Thus freeing points allowance to custom build…

  • What surprises me is the amount spent on Characters , 1780, 1480 and 1790. also the inclusion of so many Dragon Seekers.. I find that for their cost - including delivery systems, ie Skirmish Seekers that with their vulnerability to magic missile and concertrated firepower it just makes them too expensive. I have therefore have moved away from seekers. When the mood takes me I use the following instead - Thane, Shield, Dragons Breath, Rune of Kinship, Returning, 2 x Lightning 280 pts and / or Run…

Quote from IHDarklord: “You guys underestimate catapults :). If they hit 0 times each game, they are worth their points. If they hit 2 times each, each game against the right opponent, they are worth their points ten-fold! ” In a Tourny last October ? first game v HBE I used 2 x Catapults both of whom survived all 6 moves I Had 9 direct hits , 2 partial , 1 miss. Opponent not happy. Needless to say I won fairly easily.

  • Maybe all flame cannons , throwers should. Even with min size FW you are talking 10 figs that would produce a wall of flame. i would recommend you research the effects on even veteran troops in both world wars when attacked by flame throwers to get some idea of the horror of this type of weapon. Also the reaction of any nations troops when they actually captured any users. Short shift was the answer of the day. re my view of FW shooting, I dont want that another new rule but the use of something…

  • For Forge Wardens I would do the following Increase the to hit to 3+ and leave Strength and AP as now. However any unit that loses a wound must take a LD Test at a - 1. Same as a UD Catapult . Lets face it flame throwers are scary.

  • Quote from IHDarklord: “I also tried the cowboy a few times, but found it expensive in comparison to a sphinx. It's certainly a lot of fun though ” Had not even considered that type of build. Will have to give it a go. Always ready for a laugh !

  • Quote from Getyrom: “I am really surprized to see so many Shabti Archers. What's the deal? I guess it's the nature of a team event, but still... ” I cant say I am. They are a lot cheaper than Full on Shabti and not that far behind in CC. Personally I would spend the extra points but maybe in a team event they are expecting better match ups ?

  • Quote from Nahualpiltzintli: “Quote from wombat: “Quote from yrtomin: “@Dancaarkiiel really hit the nail about the thyro, what does it even do. What is it even supposed to do. ” Answer = DIE . Whilst being a total waste of Points.Lets face it the redesign from 1.3 is a total failure. Please, please return it to its old build so it can at least be used as a Skink Buff Wagon. ” Thanks for the answers. Maybe some answers where not what we expected but that's ok.i have to say it's so amusing the tyr…
