  • Quote from cptcosmic: “the latter is more of a special save as it essentially is an aegis + armor hybrid and is not as strong as a flat AP reduction. ” The latter is also something many KoE players wish for them - to have at least some chance against the abundance of AP 10. I wouldn't want this in different armies. And in regard to the armour strength KoE have, without access to a mundane 1+ save, I think this should definitely go to KoE and not to HBE.

Quote from Stygian: “I agree. Looking around at what some other armies are capable of I honestly feel nippon is going conservative now due to some of the complaints. ” That's partly intentional ;). Actually, I think first trying out stuff and possibly correcting it "downwards" (i.e. nerfing op stuff) yields better results - and much faster as the powerful choices are usually identified rather fast and naturally played more often. Units that are on the verge of being good often end up near the in…

I'll have to keep the word "Health Pool" for clarity reasons... But I think I have found an acceptable text. Any ideas for Mirumotos Battle Standard? With the previous design, I think it might be too powerful. I'm wondering about Kenjutsu = additional hit for every second hit (always). This might work.

I'm working on Nippon right now :). I'm a little unsure about the Wording of Kenjutsu. What do you think about this: Kenjtsu: For every three successful to-hit rolls against the same Health Pool, an additional hit is caused against the same Health Pool. E.g., if you have 15 attacks and 8 successful to-hit rolls, 2 additional hits are caused, leading to a total of 10 hits. When fighting in a Challenge, an additional hit is caused for every second successfull to-hit roll already. Count seperately …

  • Quote from Lagerlof: “So yes to pivots and cleansing fires. ” Are you sure about cleansing fire? I was told this is not possible. If in a unit only one model is left and becomes target of cleansing fire - and then models are raised in this unit, which model can use the breath weapon? Still the original target?

Quote from Squirrelloid: “Honestly, I'd probably abolish rules which create more possibility for misplay than solve problems. I'm tempted to say the march rate limit on displacement should just be abolished in most cases. When was the last time you bothered to check if the outside rear model on a wheeling bus had displaced too far or not? ” This is actually one of the (many) reasons I don't play KoE at the moment. This rule actually hampers the movement of units in lance formation quite a bit. F…

This has been changed for quite some time now. Also the battle focus granting general has been removed :).

I agree with most of the points, but I have to comment on one particular thing here: Quote from Stygian: “From playing the army I also know there are definite weaknesses which I am worried will be exacerbated by some of the coming changes. For example the cavalry is just bad (fitting for nippon) so the army is incapable of making a viable mounted list and thus it mostly builds varying infantry centric lists which are incredibly slow. ” I also realised samurai cavalry was quite bad. There are som…

What models are those? I'm not sure I am familar with them. And yes, these Oni are huge indeed! xD I know the problem with the painting stuff... I'm not much of a painter myself and I always have to gather motivation to start - although if I do I usually paint for an entire week (or two).

@Jocker: Awesome! What model is this? Translation: I actually realised there is some more work required here due to the change to LaTeX. The main reason for the change was that it becomes less effort eventually - but a bit more in the beginning: There are different files that need to be translated now; aside from the army specific ones there is a list of generic ones for names of special rules, abbreviations for characteristics, path names, common phrases that occur in army books (e.g. "May take…

  • @jimmygrill: Yeah, mostly characters benefit from this. Especially since it is also possible to parry with enchanted hand weapons.

Yari Samurai are still worse than elven spears, though. M4 is quite a big downside - and spear units get a huge discount for the first models (HBE get 80 points discount for the first 20 models!). Samurai do not have such a great discount, which is why I thought an implicit discount on the Yari would be a good choice. They aren't that far off when it comes to damage output either, since HBE spears have 2x FiER and LR. With the price I said above, the samurai would be slightly less expensive than…

Quote from Stygian: “Any chance of modifying oni' to be larger based? Idk exactly what I'm aiming for here but I swear it revolves entirely around the oni models from rising sun which it turns out are intense. And cheap. ” It'd certainly be possible... But then Oni cannot be used as unit filler for the infnatry units anymore. I mean, if you play the models as EoS, you can use the models as well. If they had 50mm bases that's not the case anymore :/. Quote from Stygian: “So I've been doing some c…

Quote from Stygian: “Going back to your earlier statement of some players complaining the rules were too stacked made me think if there is one entry that seems to add a lot of complexity to the book for filling roles that other characters or the shrine can do, it is the yamabushi. Prayers, blessings, martial arts not to mention balancing around these. Maybe this guy should hit the road? Then martial arts could just move to the warrior monk entry and suddenly the book is much less complex. ” Mmmh…

Quote from Stygian: “Which items are getting removed? Please not the dance of the lotus blossoms I hope. ” Naahh :). Quote from Stygian: “-The second is simply the rulebook enchants beating out the nippon items when placed on PKs. ” That's part of the point, really. Because then Nippon doesn't need as many "Katana only" enchantments anymore. That's not to say there won't be any such enchantments left - but now they can give something else than just always a Strength bonus :). Plus, the character…

I mean WDG, OnG, KOE and HBE all have nullifying items now.. just off the top of my head but theres probably more. I don't think the pearl was out of line? ” Well, the pearl was a whole lot more difficult and needed a wall of text to explain the actual effect, how long the copy works etc... For the same reason, certain items of the preliminary version will get removed / …
