The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is here! You can read all about it in the news.

  • Quote from Mamut: “you gain 12'' magical move but can't use fly(due to banner). ” Do you still benefit from "light troops" from "fly", and therefore can freely reform and what not?

  • How far can you move with the spell "Raven's wing" if the VS storm banner is used at the beginning of the turn? My assumption is you get the normal move value noted in the spell, but cannot fly, and therefore not use the sweeping attacks rule. Also, you would still be considered "Light troops" due to the "fly" special rule, even though you cannot use "fly", right?

  • The northerners are looking forward to it! I was overly optimistic thinking id get my DH painted in time, so the throngs of SA skinks will have to fill the void!

  • Quote from Eldan: “You can play by the letter, or you can agree on take-backs, fudging distances and ignoring fiddly bits. ” Exactly this is what I think about in casual. I think the game becomes a real toil during the movement/charge phase. There are just so darn many dumb situations where units cant move due to numerous random situations, many of which are not actually planned. These tactics of "champ chaffing" and "redirection" are just fancy words for "yawn inducing, fun sucking mini-games" …

  • I did a 2v2 not too long ago with some friends. We sort of decided last minute to do it, so there was 9000 points on each side on the table. It was the Good dwarves with the Good (High) Elves vs. the evil dwarves with the Evil elves. This right before 2.04, so we dealt with WoM by rolling 4 dice or something, splitting the active player PD, and pooling the dispel dice. Worked alright. For deployment, in order to prevent a "we fight here, you fight there" we made a rule during deployment that non…

  • Still working on these blasted grudge busters. I finished all the tedious stitchwork, which you cannot really appreciate from these photos. I did a rough back of the envelope calculation of how many stitches there are to paint between the two. There are cross stitches, and in line stitches. There is something around 2200 in line stitches (basically dots), and 230 cross stitches, which I had to paint from four angles to get good coverage, so I double counted them as 900 stitches. The lesson I lea…

  • Sounds like you were both out of line....... of sight! *bow* I'll be here all week

  • Our scene favors best sport over best general. In fact, this year the 40k tournament did not even give out a metal for the highest score (best general), they just got an honorable mention. I plan to adopt this as it takes some of the gravitas out of being "the winner", so people chill out a bit and take winning and losing a bit less seriously. I have found when playing opponents who have far less game experience that playing a bit fast and loose really makes for a great experience. There is a ti…

  • Does anyone know why this exists... Quote from BRB: “3.C.d Interactions with Round Bases The Boundary Rectangle of units composed of models on round bases is identical to their Footprint. ” Quote from BRB: “3.B.e FootprintA unit’s Footprint is the area occupied by the combined bases of all the models in a unit. ” Yet this is contradicted in the next rule... Quote from BRB: “3.B.f Boundary RectangleA unit’s Boundary Rectangle is the imaginary rectangle around the outer edges of the unit’s Footpri…

  • Quote from piteglio: “well, i would agree that the magic phase in the BRB is in a good spot. but it is also true that it isn't the easiest to absorb for new players. i guess it's a good thing that we removed tokens and redistributed magic dice in the QS! ; ) ” I agree, I get the impression from new folks (or rather old whfb people learning T9A) that they expect the veil tokens to play more of a role than they currently do. “What do the veil tokens do”? “You can turn them into PD at a 3veil to 1 …

  • Quote from Trains_Get_Robbed: “This is such a inane waste of resources and time. Discussing a new over run rule for WM? Sure. Redoing it for the umpteenth time? Perpetuates the myth that T9A Project Management Team knows how to waste time and money on par with governmental agencies -while getting even less done. ” Woah now, first of all, most of T9A management is hands off on this discussion, second of all, everyone in this discussion Is volunteering their time. These attitudes of “doesn’t matte…

  • Quote from Shlagrabak: “From memory (please correct me if I'm wrong guys):8th Edition rules were that WM had not base, unit contact was between the actual WM model (crew excluded) and one or more models from the charging unit. In combat, you selected X number of models of the attacking unit (X depending on the troop type - more models from infantry/war beasts than monsters, for example) which were the only ones considered in base contact for the combat. There was no alignment nor maximizing of m…

  • Quote from Konrad von Richtmark: “If the imaginary square is really such an abomination, it's not the only solution. Another might be the following: Models aligning to a (round) warmachine must align to a tangent of the round base. The tangent being perpendicular to the centre-to-centre line from the initial position of the charger to the warmachine. When moving the charger, the final closing-the-door move may be a pivot around any point on this tangent. ” Like this? Capture.png

  • QUESTION! Why did the ETC ask for round WM bases which lead to legacy round bases? Who made the call, was there a perception from the players as to good/bad. Were the rules governing how charging rounds the same then as they are now, or have they been revised?

  • Hexes and Augments are 360 LOS coming from a square base, so its not like the concept is totally foreign. The Anvil of DOOOOOOM is another round for your list @piteglio

  • Might also be worth the distinction between rolls that benefit from the law of large numbers, and those that do not. Attacks and shooting work fine in the D6 setting. Although we have very coarse probabilities due to only having 6 potential results, we are also fine tuning that probability and generating a huge number of unique unit to unit efficiencies through the use of a 3 step hit/wound/save process. Each of these rolls can be altered to increase or decrease the probability. Due to this, I t…

  • How much spare money do you need to get a printer good enough to make your own bases? I personally am a sucker for anything Scibor: sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?group=137

  • Quote from grungimusic: “If we change war machines to square bases, they will be easier to defend, warranting an increase in points. Reasonable concern Moreover can you be certain that there will be no other rules issues or shenanigans as a result of this change? How would this be different than shenanigans with any other unit in the game? I dont see any new shenanigans arising that would not also apply to the rest of the game. What actual testing would need to be done. The rules as is work just…

  • Seems like the upper end of characteristic values are already under represented with the exception of Dis. Apart from some very specific examples, and certain really expensive lords, nothing really goes higher than 7, perhaps 8 if you add in some magic. By extending the cap you are just changing ranking of the edge cases, and how they interact with each other, which is like the edge of an edge case. Cap of 10 Dis is probably more to increase the risk of losing combat, so you cant smugly sit at D…

  • Those helmets look a bit tall for a dwarf... You are not turning infernal on us, are you @Baranovich ?!
