@Herminard Thanks for explaining the matter in a clear way and starting an interesting debate. I would like to propose three questions to this debate, if people would find them interesting. a) If one would want to use elite infantry blocks as one's main fighting units, what are the best units who can support them (covering their weaknesses, allowing them to get into position, protecting them, enhancing their strengths, it can be any role like this). These units can be from the ones currently ava…

Quote from cptcosmic: “ the term avoidance is being used inflationary by you. the sole fact that you think avoidance is still only limited to shooting and running proves that you havent caught up to the several months old meta yet. avoidance now features a much wider spectrum. how you score points is not determined by your defensive approach but about the units you pick and the units you pick is not determined by your defensive approach, atleast in the HBE book. it does work, it just does not wo…

Quote from cptcosmic: “claiming someone else is avoiding by avoiding... is this the new white knight meta in the forum? biggrin.png do you have any objections when I use the same way of communication? wink.png I am not surprised about your confusion though. my suspicion was absolutely correct, the majority talking about it have no clue how it works. ” First you refuse to answer my question. Then you strawman by calling me a white knight and accusing me (falsely) of avoiding your argument, which …

Quote from cptcosmic: “lets ignore the fact that elves in general have the highest movement attribute on paper and great chaff. deployment is your friend. you "avoid" because you dont want to give away points not because you dont want to fight. you absolutely want to fight. avoiding and shooting the whole game is not working for HBE anymore for ages. ” Then what are you annoyed about? Which point are you trying to show? If this discussion was a battle, you would be playing avoidance

Quote from cptcosmic: “the other two lists have different picks for the same roles, they follow the same receipt of shooting, magic missiles and force concentration though. ” And this does not constitute avoidance, which is where we disagree. Avoidance in a list is an unwilligness to enter combat for most of the battle (except perhaps at turns 5-6 or if the enemy exposes an obvious winnable flank/rear charge), preferring to shoot and perform flees (double if necessary) to slow down the enemy. Ra…

@cptcosmic Quote from cptcosmic: “shooting, chaff, motct bsb, pyromancy/divi mage, navi lions to intercept plus characters for force concentration and point bunkering... ” This sentence only covers the first list. Then you go on to say Quote from cptcosmic: “the other 2 are variations of that but follow the same receipt ” I am really sorry but this is blatantly untrue. And even if it were true, you have seen the lists from the UK tournament which follow different patterns and have also done well…

  • I think it's fine if we wait a bit to discuss the EoS vs DE scenario that @SmithF posted and then we discuss our scenario I have some pictures from the battle but I'll try to make an UB diagram for clarity (and explain my thoughts).

  • Quote from GabbaGandalf: “Does a unit with swiftstride that has the Cosmology spell "Truth of time" cast on it have to roll 5 dice to determine its charge distance (so have 3 instances of maximized roll or just the 2 from the spell)? ” Yes, maximized roll stacks on top of the one you get from Swiftstride. So roll 5 dice, pick the 2 highest. This also happens for Flee, Pursuit and Overrun moves as the spell indicates.

@Eldan I am sure @Pellegrim can give you good reasons why having a somewhat straightforward path to learn the basics of the game is important for the experience of new players. This would lead us again to modular documents outside of the main BRB (like expansions or supplements, many games do this and for example I remember fondly the General's Compendium from GW) but you have strong feelings against that, if I understood you correctly (since you feel it is giving a second-class treatment to the…

  • @cptcosmic I think castling is always going to be an option for an army with powerful magic and decent shooting. Emphasis on option. What you say is that castling is the best list HbE can make, right? Recent results seem to disprove your claim in the sense that not-castle lists have achieved equal or higher positions at decent singles tournaments, and also at ETC. This, to me, means that for a certain skill level, not-castle lists are not only viable but actually good. If you don't want to take …

  • Quote from My_Kin: “mean they're nerfing the MoCT now? Is there anything they actually want us to play? Fix what's not being taken (most of the book at this point) before looking for more ways to piss people off. ” I think it has been stated before by a member of the staff ( @Giladis ?) that they are *not* touching the MoCT in the next patch, the discussion was mostly focused on how the current design does not completely fit the background for the honour and how the in-game mechanics of the MoCT…

  • @cptcosmic If you play with a Dragon and a MoCT don't you need to frontline a bit to be in range of the attribute and Healing waters? It's only 12''. And Awaken the Beast is 18'', so his spells don't allow him to always sit back the way a Cosmo/Div(Asfad)/Pyro Mage can do.

  • Awesome stuff @SmithF! I have a minor question, didn't the HBE player deployed his Sea Guard in a bad position? I would think it's better to have them more centrally so they have more targets to shoot at, and put the Spears in their position to cover the flank. Maybe they have a QC character for Quick to Fire and they can be repositiones without penalty, but it caught my attention.

  • Quote from Giladis: “Quote from Adam: “Quote from Giladis: “Pharaoh, Vampire Count (other), Elf Prince (Dread, Highborn, Sylvan), Dwarf King, Infernal Overlord ” So if HBE characters are supposed to be on par with DE characters and DE will add synergies to units while HBE will not then something is seriously wrong with this design. ” If I understood @elendor_f correctly he was asking about pure combat prowess as individuals not anything else related to the army as a whole because that makes any …

  • Is this a roughly correct tier list in the background? 0. Daemon characters, Exalted Heralds 1. Chosen Lords, Vampire Counts, Doomlords 2. Saurian Warlords, Ogre Khans, Iron Orc Warlords 3. UD Pharaohs, Elf Lords (Dread, Highborn, Sylvan), Dwarf Kings, ID Overlords, KoE Lords, Common/Feral Orc Warlords, Beast Lords 4. Vermin Tyrants, EoS Marshals and Knight Commanders, 5. Goblin Kings

  • Found it! Quote from Rulebook p.56: “Units can elect not to Pursue, but must then pass a Discipline Test to succeed in restraining themselves; if the test is failed, the unit must Pursue anyway. If the test is passed, the unit may do either a Post-Combat Pivot or a Post-Combat Reform. ” Thanks @Lagerlof
