  • Actually, I came up with a set of rules I quite liked... I collapsed Halberds and Great Weapons into a single category (using the rules for Halberds), called (imaginatively) 'Two-Handed Weapons'. I then created a special rule called "Mighty Strike" which means you strike at Agility 0 but with +1 S and +1 AP when using a two-handed weapon (but cancels with Lightning Reflexes the same way). That way you still have the same mechanics, but it's clear that the reason Swordmasters or whatever are hitt…

  • Equitaine reveres the Lady and no other (iirc). The difference between Sunna and the Lady is... debated. Both sides generally consider the other misguided but to be worshipping the same deity (still iirc). The Lady is definitely *not* a fake, however. She is as real as any other God or Goddess in the setting.

  • If you want to write them for Big Names and/or items feel free - but units and mounts have models, so they are the biggies. Upgrades can change more easily. Remember, this is half survey - we want to know what backround *you* want (which is not the same as promising to give you it, of course - we want to make people happy but we have many constraints to deal with)

  • Here's my opinion: The thing about characters with a pre-set kit is that you can build them "suboptimally" and then price them correctly anyway. You can give them stuff that would be broken if combo'd with X and it's fine because they don't have X, so we don't need to grossly overprice it because of that combo, or stick on clunky horrible restrictions. They are a great place to stick "build-arounds", those upgrade options that are only good if you build your list around it, because they're not s…

Quote from DanT: “So the problem is that they aren't effective enough for their cost? (Yes, I'm being a bit facetious and deliberately provocative here, but I think it is kinda a fair question) ” Eh... nah. I'd say it's that so much of the costs are hidden. Or 'nested'. You look at it, you go "okay it's X points" and accept that, and then you try to use it and you discover all the hidden costs, If it was, like, a unit entry : "Sacred Seeds: 250 points. This is not a unit but instead blah blah bl…

Quote from theunwantedbeing: “Quote from WhammeWhamme: “And while the proposal as a whole would get more "niche" items getting tried, that'll be purely because of the massive point drop on them - which does not need to paired with a massive price hike on defensive items calculated to make sure nobody ever dares try to put their characters on the front lines. ” You'de be surprised at how interesting a game gets when there are actual stakes when your characters stand a real chance of being harmed.…

  • Quote from theunwantedbeing: “Quote from lawgnome: “1) Get rid of the majority of defensive items and grant the defense to the character inherently. 2) Make a separate item budget for weapons/armor and for "trinkets" (i.e. anything that doesn't count as a weapon or armor). ” ...also 3. Have some actually powerful non-defensive items. 4. Price everything defensive at a +100-200% premium, price everything else 25-70% lower. Quote from lawgnome: “Give every character an inherent form of special def…

I think DanT was on to something. Sure, cheap, "could be useful" items are easy to squeeze in - but that's a distraction. Medium or expensive items that require hoop jumping and have relatively low impact are not worth it. This is spot on. Potion of Strength is fine because you can sometimes just find 20 points and throw it on somewhere it might help. That's an okay item. But it's not a build-around. Sacred Seeds is particularly underwhelming because there's a spell that does what it does. Sure,…

  • Write what you want, either way. I'm just pointing out (for you and anyone else) that there's multiple ways to skin things. I actually see ID as being unusually secular for a world with active gods - they're modern thinkers and pragmatic to the core - but this isn't about me and my opinions, it's about getting what y'all think down on pixels.

Quote from deadbuc: “That is why I was vague, why do we have to choose. Why cannot it be a monster of legends a because nobody that has seen it has lived, nobody knows hiw it actually looks. That way you can use almost any model to represent it. Im planning to use those FW or KoW werewolves ” T9A is officially model-agnostic; any official flavour text is still going to be a suggestion only. It also doesn't need to "choose" between werewolves and bat monsters and who knows what else; e.g. my sugg…

  • Quote from Manxol: “In T9A universe, society knows that gods exist, don't just believe in gods. Gods are a fact, they exist, and you have real proof of it. If in our world religion had the ruling word lots of times, and God is a matter of believe in real world, not a fact like in T9A setting, imagine the power that prophets, who directly speak to gods, have. Also, by the name of rules and equipment, I think ID are very religious. The most power I think overlords would have is being puppets of pr…

Quote from Eldan: “Surely, the thing to look for the Varkolak would be the mythological Greek Vrykolakas, Slavic Vârkolak, Romanian Vârcolac? The legends are varied, as they usually are, and the term can apparently mean both a werewolf and a vampire. Or a werewolf who has died and become a vampire. Maybe you could take that one and say that a Varkolak is a nonhuman vampire? I think it shares an etymology with warg/varg, so it should probably be very bestial? ” These are all pretty viable options…

Just a note: it helps if this gives people some ideas for what models to use. i.e. what IS a Varkolak (in your mind)?

  • Krokz speaks truth - these should tell people what things *are*.

  • Oh those, right. Yeah hold off on them until they drop.

  • Quote from Herminard: “Commendable idea @WhammeWhamme I assume this work will mainly take place after the community are in the know of what the design updates for the upcoming WDG contain? ” I'm not a design guy (sadly) nor a WDG guy so your comment fills me with blank non-comprehension! I thought WDG was out? There are more design changes coming? 0.0 crikey.

Like, Ninth Scroll #6 has info on DE in it... but it's not zoomed down to unit level. I will admit that backstage we have more definition, but it's still not at the level of precision I'd like.
