  • Quote from Krokz: “And S3 AP2 (Spearelves) would kill them crazy. Definitively interesting for some Daemons concept since that army is more about specialized troops while WDG are well rounded elite base with Favours to spice ” True. Of course, back to the idea of making them more attractive vs CKs, Feldraks are all but invincible against such units. And anyway a ranked, Core spear unit probably isn't the best target for a 500+ point shock troop to tackle in the first place.

  • Quote from Kdownunder: “You always learn a lot when you lose, lot more than when you win. ” Hopefully that's true, because I took top WDG player honors the last two years, and wasn't remotely close this year. Next year I'll be unstoppable!

  • Quote from Jelle89: “I think it is kinda funny that Chosen Knights ride on Steel Rhino's with resiliance 4.. And when they charge the rhino does.. ? Nothing? No impact or anything.. I know that they might get OP, but aren't they supposed to be a little OP?? ” Quote from Krokz: “WDG avoids first turn damage mechanics, if it can, and focuses on grinding. I'd say Karkadann, as in a form of Rhino, is not a great name for this design. ” I think an interesting way to represent a Living Metal/Iron Fles…

  • I did pretty terribly at Buckeye. I wanted to take a non-meta list for starters, which turned out to be a huge mistake. My basic tactic was to play for a draw/minor victory + objective each game, and 2 bad matchups (avoidance beastmen, gunline dwarves) made that an uphill battle. I also didn't realize Capture the Flag changed to punish having Scoring units so severely (I haven't played a game in 6 months.) With 7 Scoring units in the list, I was doomed to failure with that scenario. Essentially …

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “that in itself is an indicator that the EH is internally imbalanced. ” A true statement, but whether it's skewed high or the majority of the rest of the book is skewed low is something I'd like a balance team member to weigh in on. Personally, at 840 points, the Exalted Herald performs how I believe 840 points of non-chaff from the WDG army list should perform.

  • Quote from Kathal: “My only beef I have with the EH is, that he is just so good cause it does exactly what the army needs. Thus he becomes a "must" pick to say it this way. Greetings, Kathal ” I agree completely. Where @Warboss_R'ok and I differ is how we would handle the issue. His solution is to de-tune the Exalted Herald so it has less of "what the army needs" and grant those abilities to under-utilized units, while my solution would be to re-tune those underused units to more cleanly integra…

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “So in an ideal world, the shamanism buffs (in particular +1 Res) would be able to come from the battleshrines, rather than from the exalted herald? ” I'd definitely hesitate to throw the word "ideal" in there but just as an idea in broad strokes, yes I would support an army list where the strongest available combat buffs came from the Battleshrine. That's not to say that what I think should happen is the EH to lose Shamanism, the Battleshrine to gain it, and for those t…

  • I would love to see the Battleshrine become a source of buffs, if only via spellcasting, but I don't think I'll hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

  • Quote from Warboss_R'ok: “We would be OP for sure if all our units were as competitive as the Exalted Herald. ” Of course I'm not saying every unit should be a magic-wielding, 50x50 Stubborn wrecking ball. But if every unit performed point-for-point as well as the EH in its respective role, and we're working off of the assumption that the BLT considers the EH appropriately costed, I think we would see much more diverse army lists.

  • I agree wholeheartedly that the EH is a crutch, but I also think he's close to perfect as-is. If our other units performed on a par with it, you wouldn't see as many in lists. If armour mattered more, we wouldn't depend on the Shamanism buffs. If our ranged threat/first-turn pressure was more credible, we wouldn't feel like we had to spam Wrath of God.

  • The problem as I see it is that WDG have been turned into a finesse army but without the usual special rules that those types of armies enjoy. No ambushers, no special deployment, and relatively large footprints for the fast, heavy-hitting units. I don't have a problem with what we were given to fit that play style, because it definitely works, I have a problem that we were basically forced into it to begin with. Many of us have migrated to more "thinky" lists and tactics over the years, big ris…
