I am afraid that erring towards D&D Drows presents high risks, low rewards. BG: Not the direction we're pursuing in our "Taphrian" series. - There is not the slightest hint of Drows in T9A BG. Neither of Elfs settling in Taphria, which forces us to be light on the footprint. - There is no legend of Elves in any RL African lore I may be aware of. Indeed, Drows were inspired from RL Scandinavian lore: Svartálfar. - Using more recent inspiration for Drows such as D&D is the opposite of what T9A is …

  • Reporting about the naming of a document: T9A-FB_HBE_0-205-0_EN.pdf should be named T9A-FB_HE_0-205-0_EN.pdf Rationale: Official short for Highborn Elves is HE, not HBE.

Quote from Eldan: “More corsairs, fewer regular spear troops, more skirmishers, Silexian monsters out, Taphrian monsters in. ” This is what I had in mind indeed. Additionally, far from mainland, you forget about politics: Mainland Cults such as Nabh and Yema should have less importance. Same for an "urban" cult such as Olaron. Reversely, a hunter's cult like Cadaron, or a specific cult for corsairs could well thrive out of proportion. Quote from JimMorr: “Slave trade was run mainly by Africans t…

Taphrian Elves are considered indeed, but that would be a SE Aux Book. SE are local tribes where they live. Wyscan Forest in central Vetia is just one of their location. The plan is for them to get their own enclave in the equivalent of Central Africa. Opposite to SE, DE and HE are both coherent political entities, both with worldwide spread. HE gets the world's most impressive naval power. DE has the only fleet able to challenge it, and accesses the whole world, too. Taphrian DE and Taphrian HE…

  • Instead of rewriting the rules, maybe there is a case to create a tutorial? If so, the target would be narrowed to - those who like reading better than videos - and who have no friend to show them the game - and who don't want to start with the QS. Still, that could be useful.

I was wondering... Maybe we could consider DE in Taphria? It could help the team to be inspired for the imminent DE overhaul. Thoughts? Quote from Calisson: “(Hidden Content) ”

  • Quote from Eldan: “I've now realized that as a casual, I really don't have a place on this forum. I'll go delete my account in shame and go play Candy Land. ” Ah, Please use emoticon to indicate irony. That will help my heart to provide desired services for a couple more years. Thanks.

  • Great explanations, @piteglio! If the remaining hurdle is buying models and painting them, there are alternatives: Flat Paper Proxies

  • Hi. Please note that I rely on people telling me what to update on the first post of the thread. It is not automatically maintained. Thank you.

  • Quote from Helmut: “to get what they want by cunning or force of arms rather than trading. ” I did not say DE would get all their goods by honest trade. I only implied that once in possession of their goods, they would sell them by trade. The specifics of DE would be not to feel committed to follow other's rules. Compare to Vikings, for example. They were more traders than raiders. Still, Vikings! Compare to mafia. Most of what they do is to offer services (illegal), rather than assaulting banks…

  • Quote from umbranar: “Dread Elves don't negotiate. ” I would assess the opposite, based on my personal understanding of DE fluff. Dread Elves would negotiate anything... on their terms... nonwithstanding how legal the outcome would be. DE are the smugglers of T9A, they trade slaves, forbidden goods such as artefacts, persons traffic including prisoner's evasions, endengered species such as dragon eggs, highly taxed luxuries, drugs, kidnappings, prohibited goods and texts, you name it. DE do trad…

  • Well, the obvious inspiration for Gilles de Raux is Gilles de Rais. For those not versed in French history, he was a companion of Joan of Arc, the saint female virgin warrior, who freed the French Kingdom from the British occupation. Gilles became Marshal of France. Later in his life, he may have explored alchemy and demonology, and ended up to have sodomized, killed and eaten probably over a hundred of children. Very fitting for a vampire inspiration, blending the highest deeds with the worst e…

Quote from Caledoriv: “To be honest, I have once "fought" for KoE, which is an official army. And alongside a great deal of other players. With 0 effect. We community here simply have no "power" to change anything. We'd have to make it to the executive board - and even then it'd be doubtful because as far as I know, the roadmap for the next few years has been agreed upon already. But if you know any executive board member or other "higher ups" here, by all means, try to pusuade them! ” Here I am …

Now we're talking about an idea! Having a general/condottiere with only 6" bubble and a BSB/paymaster with no bubble at all (reroll only for own unit) would play well into the designed ASAW and make Grand Companies very unique with a strong "I fight for myself" spirit.

  • I can confirm. Last bit of work done on future DE AB was on March 2017. Since, DE has undergone instead the very same upgrade as any other AB, with the 2.0 preparation. You have the whole result downloadable.

  • Quote from Baranovich: “1. Steve and I welcomed a new player 2. he brought along his Empire army 3. we fought Dwarven Holds and Sylvan Elves allied against The Empire ” Translation: "Hey, there's a new bloke in town! Let's put aside our usual feud and join forces to beat him to crap!" Strange way to welcome newcomers... Superb Thunder Brew Inn, by the way

Quote from Marcos24: “Quote from Mercenary Armies: “i dont wanna da paycart! ” But more people than you DO ” How to conciliate? A- Make sure that the AB is equally playable with or without paycart. B- Make the paycart rules unspecific enough so it may represent as easily a paycart, a command wagon, a high tech arcane weapon on a cart... possibly by giving it widely diverging options. To be discussed once the first draft of the AB is made and we review entry after entry in this global context.

Fine with me. Busy week ahead, but I will have time from the second week of November on.

  • Sorry, but strangely, what you seem to regret from T9A is not what the project is doing. - we're not trying to homogenize armies, that is the opposite. However, the armies you use as examples are still in their initial state, inspired heavily from legacy. They should get a complete overhaul in the years to come, and this overhaul will definitively give them unique strengths and weaknesses compared to other armies. What you deplore, we deplore as well. But there is no magic to change it brutally …
