The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is here! You can read all about it in the news.

  • It was 36 strong, which is as big as it gets My seekers were there in lieu of another block. The MMU Todesbrot is talking about is basically every Hold Guardian list ever? So there's been quite a few of those around.

  • Quote from Firthunands91: “Why always talk about how well balanced the book is internally, but then if going for shooting, something that seems like one of the main aspects of the armybook, is a suboptimal way of playing? ” But I'm not saying its suboptimal. Quite the contrary, I'm saying combined arms are the best DH lists.

  • That's literally what I played with though - and not for showing-off purposes, but because I thought it was best. Did pretty decent with it as well. The current list I've seen played in the high-end meta in the UK is also combined arms (although the shooting is copters and WM in that case). Its harder work than playing either pure gunline or pure rush because you have more than one avenue for overall strategy so actually have to think about the matchup rather than stay put / rush in because its …

  • Quote from Danrakh: “Immunity to stomps, multiwounds, lethal attacks, reducing strength of opponents attacks - those are things I would rather see in DH instead of other armybooks ” I think a lot of this stuff is already reflected in the unit profiles, but I get where you're coming form. I'd like to see something that removes devastating charge bonuses for example.

  • Quote from xaby86: “I think gunline doesn't but having a mixed army or having 2 or 3 firing units a little better doesn't displease anyone. It's pretty dwarf. ” From experience, this is difficult to actually action. Currently, the shooting aspects of the army get usage, so they are more or less in line with the combat elements. If the shooting gets more point-efficient, then it outshines the combat elements, and competitively everyone would take the max available. Even if you reduce the shooting…

  • Does everyone really want the gunline to be the go-to army build?

  • Resilience is an odd one, since its so heavily present in stat profiles already - DS, Res, Armour, Special Saves, HP... HooM is a nice rule, I do wonder if it can be expanded to work the opposite of DL, where both players discard 2 veil tokens as well.

  • Quote from AlexCat: “Forum people need to understand that stuff members can not critisize project decisions openly even if they themselves think those to be bad. This is project policy AFAIK ” Quote from DanT: “The project judged that the hotfix was necessary, and with hindsight and the data since, is broadly happy with that decision. ” Or maybe they are happy with the decision...? As ex-staff, I can near-guarantee you that's not true Alex I mean, its not ideal to throw mud on your teammates, bu…

  • Without actually being aware what @'Furion''s exact opinions on overall book level are, the reason why @'DanT''s evaluation is important is because he has actively and purposefully hopped between armies in order to gain wider game perspective. In contrast, @Furion is a HBE player and is subject to the same biases everyone else has regarding their own army. Quote from Cealyne: “You’re wrong... conservative design and heavy handed nerfs aren’t needed. Neither has to exist. How about bold design an…

  • The whinge about the Hotfix seems to stem from people's inability to accept that HbE are a mid-tier book now. ergo were OP in 2.0. I feel like all the good arguments have already been stated. For better or worse, sugarcoated or not, it boils down to L2P issues. "Give us cool strong stuff during beta" + "cry when cool stuff is taken away if found to be too good" is a shoot yourself in the foot attitude, as Dan so eloquently put it. You CANNOT complain about conservative design and heavy handed ne…

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “It will be balanced ” This is the best joke on this thread so far

  • Mostly on top of all that, he's cheap Mage with Heirloom = 265 pts Commander with MoCT = 285 pts 3 spells each, 1 channel each, equivalent casting. The second one can be a BSB if you want him to and has a flat out better version of the Hereditary. + a handful of irrelevant-ish combat stats, but still - plus is a plus. For +20 pts. I mean, even if you just want a supplementary foot mage, the MoCT is on the table even if you don't want him to be the BSB.

  • If that's the case - sure (mine was on a prince anyway), but if I'm honest I primarily take MoCT for the heals; RW is just a nice tool to have but as with most movement spells is only truly efficient if you are able to force it through. Regen and Cosmo being duds in a lot of lists and matchups is where the issue stems from IMO. I'm not sure I'd prioritize RW over Alch or Shamanism.

  • Well, I did have Raven's Wing

  • Quote from sparkytrypod: “Quote from Fnarrr: “I got 17-3 against VS the weekend just gone, but that was game 3 on bottom tables and the beginning of a very start submarine - so maybe not representative... ” how did the other games go? ” In order: 1,2,17,18,19...

  • I would have said the ability to volley fire over their nonsense with no cover + the presence of queen's guard (and other assorted shooting, like the sloop an Elu) in the army makes it a LOT easier to pluck out all their squishy support elements, like weapon teams, warmachines, jezzails, and with focused fire dreadmills - compared to the DE's repeater crossbows. Defence matters little if there is no incoming fire. You take out their support with shooting, magic, & fast maneuverable units, and th…

  • Quote from Marcos24: “Yikes.. Sounds like DE should be a more vulnerable and susceptible to damage ” Nah, its just a lot of things in that rant that are pretty inaccurate.

  • Quote from WastelandWarrior: “nice one, if you fancy a game I'll be happy to oblige, not had chance to play my list at all ” It seems I'll be there later, completely forgot I am going to a gig on Thursday night and need some recovery time Fri morning...

  • I enjoyed that video, it was actually a lot less aggro than I expected!
