  • These special case rules no longer exist. When you have a characteristic of 0, you still use the difference between S and R, and between OS and DS, to determine how much you need to roll.

  • Quote from Sodder: “3 of those 4 options are extremely vulnerable to certain things (cannons, divination magic and so on). Were I to bring trolls, I would rather not bring a that easily snipeable general or bsb. Losing an expensive model to an unlucky cannon shot is one thing but the risk of losing (to stupidity) an unit of trolls as well is to much for me. ” So you'd rather not invest in leadership options when you take more leadership dependent units?

  • Wyvern, Gargantula mount, Crown of the cavern king, GGI BSB... We are in no short supply of tools to get 18" bubbles, which while not mandatory, are good investments for the rest of your army anyway. Sure babysitting trolls needs to be done, but I quite disagree with it's difficult to do or seriously disadvantageous right now. Let's not forget that fortitude 4+ is really good (and good special saves are otherwise rare in this army) and yet trolls remain fairly affordable, at least in their basic…

  • Are you talking about wrecking teams ? One option is Titant Forge's Necromashers. You get two models for 22.4€, and they are easily convertible to fleshed gnashers if you prefer them this way.

About proxies. For me there is one legitimate use of the word in the 9th age, and it's when the owner doesn't intend the miniature they are fielding to be an appropriate representation of the model entry. "I don't have a 6th troll yet, so I'm proxying the model with this guy on a giant squig in the back rank instead. Is that ok with you?"

Every two pages, this thread repeats itself with the same arguments and people essentially talking past each other. There is only one explanation: the Dark gods have trapped us in a time loop. Damn Nukuja! ae4.jpg

  • 4 limbs, huh? These are obviously wyverns.

Ok, now I badly want to see that dragon-riding dwarf that everybody is talking about. Sounds like an epic idea!

  • But I mean, even animals can feel how confident their adversary is being. A lot of prey-predators engagement rely on this. And I've always thought that banners galvanize you side, not demoralize your enemy (well at least for a regular banner). That's why they give a bonus to their own side. So why would trolls ignore this? They don't need to understand what a banner is, just fight an enemy who's animated with fervor. Also, determining who won combat is done by comparing one side to another, not …

  • @kisanis Fenryll! While we're at it, suggestions for wolf chariots can be centralized here: Miniatures - Goblin Wolf Chariot I don't think the page has the Knightmare minis yet!

  • Also, Gamezone miniatures allows you to buy the pieces for its chariot separately, rider included: gamezoneminiatures.com/tienda/…ins/223-carro-goblin.html carro-goblin.jpg 04-54-9-17-conductor.jpg 04-54-10-17-latigo-espada.jpg

  • Goblins from Massive Darkness are also an option. You can find them for around $1 a piece + Shipping on ebay. s-l1600.jpg s-l1600.jpg Reaper miniatures also has this bundle for $3.99: 77024_w_1.jpg

  • I like stupidity, it adds flavour and emphasize the central block aspect of trolls instead of flankers. It forces you to invest in discipline items and strategy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it emphasizes bubble mechanics which are among OnG strengths. It's a bit all or nothing, but I blame that on the binary aspect of all discipline rules at the moment. I would keep it. One thing about it that has never made sense to me though is why they stop 1" away from enemy units instead of engagin…

  • Gnasher Herds have S5, don't score and can't fill core. For me the comparison with trolls stops here. Gnashers have no defense whatsoever (and bleed combat res), have good initiative, more attacks per frontage, happily operate outside of bubble (although their movement is quite low they do have swiftstride). They have neither of the troll belch perks against very high armour and targets difficult to hit. Last game I played we ended up rolling the marching columns scenario, and my gnashers herd w…

  • I like trolls now personally, I find that they are the only tanky block in my goblin army. They can really soak up a lot of damage while giving out low combat res, perfect to throw in a combat with a giant with nets or a GGI. And their offense is more than decent with 3At S5 + stomp, especially considering that the optional troll belch can bypasse both armour and to hit rolls when needed. And with Stupidity and initiative one, they keep some definitive drawbacks that the rest of my army doesn't …

  • It used to be that Bridge trolls were hit on 6s by enemies failing their fear test, which to me was their main gimmick. It reinforced their survivability further than common trolls but in a different way than cave trolls. But now a failed fear test gives a -1 modifier to hit, which can't be combined with Distracting so the design now feels a bit off. Too bad, I actually like the idea of this upgrade. The idea about water terrain above is not bad, but the problem is that in a lot of games, there …
