Quote from Hombre de Mundo: “Imagine a video game where you have guns and we're playing that game. I can say something like "your gun sucks, swap it for the one I have". Now, that likely doesn't mean that I take your gun and you take mine but that you - in your inventory or w/e swap the gun for one that is the same that I have. This is possible and makes sense within the context fo the game. ” In my opinion your comparison is faulty, because you change context without considering it afterwards a…

  • @Kosta So you had a rules question. You got an immediate and correct answer. You even got an explanation, why you might have misunderstood the rule, pointing out the possibility, that your native language translates "swap" in a way that might be confusing. I do not understand why you now start insulting me. I try one more time: Imagine you sit besides somebody in a plane. He asks "Can we swap seats?" What do you assume does the other person want to do? 1. Switch places, with both of you sitting …

  • If you are looking for novels outside of the Warhammer Universe (which I strongly recommend), I can point you towards: The Legends of the Älfar by Markus Heitz (if you are a German read, the original is called "Legenden der Albae"). In my opinion the Dark Elves presented in those books are quite near to the ones from T9A. Additionally other books from the same author play in the same settings, most notably the "Dwarves" series.

  • Why should it be explained better? You obviously don't understand English language well enough. My recommendation is to better learn the language or use a translated version of the rules in your native language. Your example with programming language is besides the point, because in your example you falsely changed the goalpost. What you describe with "You swap what you have with what I have." is never explained that way in programming. You just twiddle words a little around so you can put in th…

  • No. If you were correct, the rule would be written "The bearer must replace its…". The verb 'swap' means exactly that. Swapping the characteristics, which means you get those from them and they get those from you.

@Clockwork The split is important for many reasons. What you are seeing right now, is the result of the split happening too late. As most of the re-design steps for the "old" books are completed, there are no cycles left to test Strength-AP-Independence, so most books retain the former values. As @Konrad von Richtmark rightfully pointed out: Fully redesigned books will contain more of those with the WDG going strongly into the "more S, less AP" direction. There will of course be others as well. …

  • I know this is technically off-topic, but I played my first EoS game and their army forum doesn't have a thread like this. As some of you seem to enjoy reading my battle reports, maybe the moderator's doom hammer will let this slip just once... World premiere on my blog. After staying true to the Dread Elves for many moons, it was time to lead another army into battle. The "Army of the Dawn" is my take on the Empire of Sonnstahl. World premiere on my blog. After staying true to the Dread Elves for many moons, it was time to lead another army into battle. The "Army of the Dawn" is my take on the Empire of Sonnstahl. Do not let the looks fool you, the soldiers might look my Bleak Legion , but they are really somebody else! In their very first battle, the Army of the Dawn marches north, to claim some barbarian lands for the God-Emperor. However some heathens praying to strange and terrible gods stand in their way. Will the …

While we are on the topic, why is the 'o' not capitalized then? What is a Cloack, is it the same thing as an Alter? And why are we loosing games instead of losing them? And how do you loose a game? Does that involving taking relaxants?

A little work in progress on my Ashigaru Archers. I am getting faster in painting those, but these models are harder to paint than the Tanegashima. There are many deep "tunnels" because their tunics are so loose. the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…25135d83dd00ff5cc9a1e6d35

Quote from mrmossevig: “Is the Priest really worth it just for KI? ” No it isn't. It's really bad, actually. If you want a cheap BSB, the Cult Legate is ok, but never for the KI. KI is (for years now) one of the most notoriously overrated abilities. Example versus Res 4 opponent: If you score 24 non-poison hits, you have on average 4 rerolls. Those 4 re-rolls create on average 1.33 wounds. Congratulation you increased your output by 1-2 wounds with AP 0 (or 1 with Rending Banner)! KI is nicer on…

@Herminard regarding your question where all the middle sized units are: My view is that the rules as they are right now, hugely put those at a disadvantage. These units are not big enough to conserve points, pay the same price for command and banners as the big units, are too Costly to sacrifice for chaffing and have a disadvantage against small units e.g. On scoring. (just to name a few) Including full command into the units might ease that up a bit, but what else could be done? I really disli…

  • Hej Jack, I just wanted to say that I value your contributions very highly and actually agree with your point of view. I am going to adress some of the things you wrote directly and point out the weak points in your argumentation. Please don't see it as aggressive or anything like that, I just want to show, that things might be seen differently. So here it goes: Quote from JackStreicher: “But they don‘t look very appealing, do they? ” What is and what isn't visually appealing is 100% personal ta…

Quote from JackStreicher: “limit buffs a unit can receive (from banners, magic, external abilities etc.) to 1. ” Congratulations! You just destroyed Empire of Sonnstahl and every synergy based playstyle. Quote from JackStreicher: “My issue with MSU is apart from it breaking the immersion that MSU feels like a playstyle for a skirmisher game ” While I certainly grant you your own point of view, you should be aware, that it is just that. I agree with @Herminard here, that single models and light t…

  • @Boomvalk Absolutely love your Divine Altar conversion. Very cool scenery. Does the fact, that your TG is standing on those raised rocks contribute to the "crowdedness"? Mine stand on the base directly and do not look that crowded to me.

  • Quote from Helmut: “He does make a valid point though but I think it’s a game wide problem rather than an elf one. The game seems to be increasily directed towards small units. ” Coming from @JackStreicher I do not see this as a problem the way he described it. As far as I understood, he disliked, that the overall army (read model count) was too low. On that scale it doesn't matter whether you have one unit of 50 or five units of 10. The model count is the same, they are just spread differently.…

Quote from JackStreicher: “I am not playing this game to have only to field a pathetic rag-tag group of pointed-eared sadists, I want to field a massive army of pointy-eared roman/japanese sadists ” In that case I really don't understand why you play at 3000 or even 2000 points. If I only read your statement from above, I would expect you to play 6000 or more points. Interesting points from a semi-outsider view though. I agree that the points for command are somewhat strange and seem to be too h…
