Wow, that's a treasure trove of modelling information! Thanks for the ideas, guys! I'll try to visit an aquarium store during the weekend, see if I cannot find pieces of wood that could work with my bases. Trying to have heavy bases is probably my best bet at the model being less wobbly. Another idea I had was to actually convert two more pegasi/drakes so that I can push my dread elf flyers to a total of 6. With a small unit filler in each, I'll have some plastic models that I can actually trans…

  • Three games against daemons so far, and what struck me mostly was how similar all lists were. Omen of Savar/Lemure core, then a mix of Hoarders/Fiends/Brazen Beasts for some fast hard hitters, a second caster, a Hope Harvester and a couple of redirector units. All of the games were fun, but it feels like a lot of potential is wasted by the fact that the units above are clearly superior to anything else. That might be because the rest is subpar, but to me there's the "safe build" and then everyth…

Hey guys, thanks for the quick and useful replies! So my kestrel issue starts from the fact that their flying stands were broken when I bought them. So I had the idea of magnetizing them instead. I found rare earth magnets that would fit the flying stand hole and glued them on the birds, but then realized that the magnets were nowhere near as powerful as they should have been for supporting such a heavy model! So, preparing for 2017 ETC, I found a "temporary" solution: I created flying stands us…

Quote from noir: “we need to Talk Smith. I don’t see anything dread in these ” Hahaha, the Dread Elves will return, don't worry! Right now I've got the following on my painting list for the Dread Elves: - 10 Raven Cloaks - 2 Winged Raptor conversions - 10 Blades of Nabh As for the Sylvans: - 2 Great Eagles/Aetherwings and touching up the unit that was hastily painted - finding a permanent and durable solution for the flying stands of the Kestrels. I lack the modelling skills to do a complex dior…

And an update from the forest! Here's an (almost) finished unit of Forest Rangers! the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97 the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97 the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97 the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97

  • Quote from Danrakh: “Also I respectfully disagree with a notion, about gleaming and resilience being interchangeable because gleaming do not works against things that hurts us the most (damage magic and special attacks). ” You`ll note that I said "almost interchangeable" and "in many cases". When it comes to tipping a combat in your favor *if* there are no Stomps involved then getting hit on a 5+ is a huge boon. As for damage magic, I've found that when Resilience wouldn't go through, I'd attemp…

  • I think that I'm beating a dead horse by trying to defend the dwarven magic phase in this thread, but here goes: The current bound magic phase of the DH is designed to be most useful for units that are medium-sized or bigger. By definition, the short range of the spells and the fact that they only ever affect one target means that in an MSU build they won't be as useful. Which in my mind is a good thing, as MSU dwarf lists in their current form are aberrations of nature. In many cases, the Gleam…

Quote from tulmir: “@Squirrelloid your list is insane, but also you have 30 points more. 20 spears with Academy Banner costs 350, not 340. You have 3 of them so you have 30 points more then the limit. @subspace your general's list illegal, since you can't take Imperial Seal without Plate Armour, which you didn't buy for your general. So, you have to buy Plate armour for your general if you want to keep Imperial Seal. With plate armour, your list becomes 4517. ” I confirm the errors that Tulmir f…

the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97 A (bad) picture showing what another couple of hours tonight achieved: Bases done, complete with patches of dried grass! I also touched up the shields and the spear poles. Next up: an unreasonably large amount of Forest Eagles...

Quote from N3okorrales: “2 afternoons? that would take me a month....ive been painting the same limited edition wardancer for two weeks! ” That would be because my definition of what is "done" and other, more talented, people's definitions are not the same! In case this interests someone, the above is painted in a line production way: After zenithal priming: First basecoat Sotek Blue (green?) all the cloth of the figures (all 20 of them!), then basecoat Leadbelcher all the metallic parts. The fl…

It has been too long since the last update, but being snowed-in has its benefits! I give you a unit of 20 Dread Legionnaires, painted in two afternoon sessions: the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97 the-ninth-age.com/gallery/inde…5e4680ed48b7d5a44548dbf97 There's still some work to be done (another drybrush on the bases, painting the spear poles/ shield decorations and adding a highlight level pretty much everywhere), but these are tournament ready! Bad weather is expected to …

  • Of course! I want to have proof of being the first person in the world to use the maximum amount of Forest Eagles allowed in a 4500 game.

  • That's an excellent read! I'd like to see stuff like this in a future 9th scroll, even if it isn't necessarily 'canon'.

  • Greetings @Phaeoron , thanks for digging up the thread! I have only skim-read through the DL book, and I'm not the best at coming up with super-powerful lists (I'd look at @Randomus or others' videos for that). But as a fan of tactical play I see a lot of potential in the book. All of the choices are super-specialized and have so many options. Here is the top 3 things that I'd like to see/try out, not necessarily because they are the best out there, but because it's something new: - Furies with …

  • Would a basing tutorial be too much to ask? (seeing as you're in the middle of the process anyway!) Everything looks excellent, looking forward to the next batch!

I'm fine with alternative maps/terrain as long as it's easy to follow (I haven't had the chance to check out the terrain supplement yet). BTW, @Casas I forgot to mention my time zone group in my list: I'm GMT +1, so group B Cheers!

  • Ok, here goes. This will be a long post, and it represents how I feel about the SE book and its current standing after having played different armies for the best part of the past year, including other elven factions. First off, to answer the initial thread question: in Belgium, where I game, Sylvans have always been a rare sight with only one or two people playing the army per tournament. In my absence, @Alzam has been one of only two SE generals in recent events, and he managed a very decent t…

  • I promised I'd chime in, although I fear that my never-ending positivity when it comes to SE will disappoint some. For now, following this thread. Reply to come later this WE.

Quote from Cam: “ID are basically elves with their magic and monsters and such. ” That's the worst form of insult for any dwarf...so quite appropriate!
