The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is here! You can read all about it in the news.
It’s time to write up another tournament where push about some angry red Warriors in a very aggressive manner and usually end up regretting it. Read on if you want to learn how to not to play the ninth age and may you all learn from my mistakes because I certainly don’t seem to be!
So this weekend just gone was the UK GT Final, a 26 man, 6 game (6!) tournament in Stockport, UK. I have tweaked my list from what I took to the first heat but only slightly.
Like many people I’ve been speaking I’ve kind of been a hobby slump lately with the imminent release of version 2.0 I’ve found it hard to get enthused about any games of 1.3. My army is far from optimal and I know the changes I need to make for it but that would involve painting some new models (a process that takes me hours and not something I take lightly), models that may end up being utterly useless shortly. So I’ve kind of been in a permanent state of hobby paralysis, wanting to write new lists and paint something but too scared to do it in case I paint something I will never be taking to a tournament ever again. Besides, I have a mountain of grey plastic and resin models to paint so I’ve been plodding my way through some of them (Monolith’s Conan board game is the latest thing on my painting table).
I’m fairly happy with the list, everything has a role to play, some of them just don’t like fulfilling that role (I’m talking to you Dragon Centaurs!). If I could make the top half I’ll be very happy but it’s a tough field of players and it’s unlikely to happen.
Game 1 I was drawn against an opponent I haven’t played since back in 8th Edition Warhammer where I managed to beat his whole Beastman Army with a single unit of Grail Knights, a truly epic feat never to be repeated! So I was looking forward to having a rematch. This time my opponent was using Undying Dynasties, not an army I’ve fought a lot but I have some experience against. His List:
Nomarch: General, Glittering Cuirass, Brooch Of The Sun, Great Weapon
Death Cult Hierarch: Hierophant Evocation Wizard Master
Tomb Harbinger: Bluffer’s Helm, Great Weapon, Talisman Of Shielding
2x1 Casket Of Phatep
30 x Skeleton Archers: Musician
3x10 Skeleton Archers
3x5 Skeleton Scouts
40 Necropolis Guard: Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer, Paired Weapons, Rending Banner
3 Tomb Cataphracts: Musician, Ambush
3 Tomb Cataphracts: Ambush
2 Scarab Swarms
So essentially there is a big unit of Necropolis Guard which will have WS5 thanks to the Nomarch and will have Hatred because of the Harbinger. The wise man would avoid that block and try and take out the rest of the army but I am not a wise man, I have only come along to the tournament to smash toy soldiers together and roll a lot of dice, so that’s what I intend to do! If I can weaken the block with Magic and then combo charge it in one glorious turn and wipe it off the board then I’m satisfied.
For this tournament the deployment type and secondary objective is randomised each round and for this Game it is Frontline Clash and the Secondary Objective is Break-through. My opponent has lots of drops and lots of scoring units but is hamstrung somewhat by the undead’s inability to march away from their general. The Tomb Cataphracts will be ambushing on to give my opponent two scoring units, as long as they come on before turn 4. My opponent only has a 1 Spell caster and gets the Hasten the Hour spell. My Sorcerer gets Word of Iron, Molten Copper, Corruption of Tin and Glory of Gold. My opponent doesn’t have any decent lone models to attack I don’t bother swapping any of them out for Quicksilver Lash. My main aim with magic is to weaken up the Tomb Guard with the Ring of Fire and Molten Copper. I can reduce the Armour of the Tomb Cataphracts if they get close enough to worry me.

Another installment (a little late as usual) of last months hobby stuff. And it has been a big month for the Ammertime guys! Man we have done a lot of hobby!
As I said in my latest article I wouldn't be writing here for a while because of my University obligations and a lot of stuff I had to do hobby-wise.
So I said I was preparing my UD army for Novi Sad and my Ogre Khans army for Allied tournament in Samobor.
Unfortunately I didn't go to Novi Sad because there was last-minute stuff I had to do...
So I painted Sand Scorpion (metal) model and started to do a Sphinx too.
Here are some of the pics:
I was enjoying painting those minis and I really like UD. But unfortunately , due to lack of spare time I will probably have to sell them since I have 2 more armies (WoDG and OK) waiting for their paintjob aswell...
So later on I had to paint 25 Ogre Khan models in less then a week. Now I do now that doesn't sound so awfull but for the person who literally HATES painting and it is not very good at it... It was drama.
Everything was going smooth first few days.
I've painted 10x Ogre Tribesmen and I said to myself "Oh God, this is going great, I will finally have all miniatures painted on the tournament" (before that, I had to borrow minis or just spray paint them in 3 colours the night before...). And I was super excited! So this is what I have done 4 days before deadline:
And after that, I had to paint 7 Bombardiers and Great Khan and Khan (BSB).
2 days befor the tournament I've painted this so far:
And then.... I don't know what happened. But the last day I had some jobe I had to do and I was finished by the afternoon. And I was painting from 10 pm until 4 am... And my friend was picking me up in 8 am! So it was crazy.... But I didn't make it. I didn't paint them and base them as I wished and hoped I would do. But I will do it for the next event in a few months , since I don't have a lot of job with them
So the tournament itself;
It was (as I said earliear) allies tournament. So you and your "partner" have 3000 points each to make your army lists. Characters cannot enter the partner unit even if they're are the same army but there was full Ld range from generals (each player has to have one in its army) and BSB's and you could buff your partner's units with magic spells. It is played on 1 table , 2vs2. Super interesting event since it's only one in this region and the hosts are great! €0 fee entry + free drinks and food + loads of awards for everyone. Does it get any better?
Me and mate went with WoDG and OK allied armies and finished 3rd. This is the lists we had:
@Great Khan General Heart Ripper Yeti Furs Sprout of Rebirth Spinsplitter
@Khan BSB Great Weapon Iron Fist Ogre Crossbow Dragonscale Helm Talisman of Shielding Skull of Qenghet Hoardmaster
@10x Tribesman Full Command Iron Fist Banner of Speed
@Daemon Prince of Pestilence General Dragon Mantle
@20x Warriors of Wrath Full Command Paired Weapons
@24x Chosen of Wrath Full Command Paired Weapons Rending Banner
Since I don't rember it much now (well not the details) I will just write our opponents armies and result we did against them.
1. vs. Daemon Legions/WoDG 0:20 (tabled...)
2. vs. Vermin Swarm/Dread Elves 16:4
3. vs. Orcs and Goblins/Orcs and Goblins 20:0
4. vs. Saurian Ancients/Highborn Elves 13:7
As I said, very interesting and "different" event and it was pleasure playing it!
So for the award I received Shieldlord with Crossbow from @Shieldwolf Miniatures
The mini itself looks stunning! Great mini and I absolutely love it. But the problem is with the cast, it turned out slightly bad (chunks of resin on the croosbow, thin resin on the cloak + bend sword). But besides that, it is great. It made me thinking of buying box of Shieldmaiden and making a unit of Shieldmaiden / Barbarians for my WoDG army.
So , that's that for now. Hope you enjoyed reading this.
Will talk to you again soon, probably in a week or two. I will come back with the news for 9th Age BR project I will do.
Cheers [Read More]
After breaking the ice in my "pilot" article here is another one from Grumpy Guy
So after I painted EDC and Hellscream Cannon and told you some stuff about me and my buddy today I'm speaking few words about our YT channel and BR we're going to do. And also I'm posting some pictures of stuff I painted in the last few days.
GRUMPY GUY GAMING - YOUTUBE
So this is a channel my friend initally started as his own for Warhammer 40,000 battlereports and to present to community the stuff he painted. After a shortwile I decided to start recording 9th Age battlereports and was thinking of starting my own channel. So we decided that wouldn't be such a good idea because there is more chance we will get more subscribers and views as one channel so we decided to go in this long-term project together.
I've just checked the channel and there are no 9th Age BR, why is that?
Simply because I am busy and lazy bastard. We want our channel to have some standards like playing on nice battlefield with nice terrains, table and most important with armies painted. The last one I don't yet have. I can't say when can you expect the 9th Age BR's. I simply plan to finish my UD army (4500 points atleast) and start going on tournaments in my region. Plan is to go to I. T9A ETC Bootcamp Team Austria(Wien) with painted UD army so I could say I'm planning to start battlereports somewhere at the start of May.
After I do my "pilot" episode I will do a pool here on my blog so everyone can suggest me what to improve and so on. Also plan is to publish one episode every week, for now.
That is all for that matter now to switch of to models I painted.
Wasteland Steed Chariot (old metal model)
There are few more things I have to do before I can tell the model is finished (base for Chimera, base for Chariot, pinn the crewman, etc..)
Simple but effective(I think).
Hope you enjoyed #2 of Grumpy Guy blog, talk to you again next week with finished Colossus for UD and some really nice bases for UD.
Hello to everyone this is my first blog article on 9th Age page.
So who am I and what do I do?
Fellow hobist doing various hobby stuff.
Firstly, I am currenlty in project of finishing two armies; Warriors of the Dark Gods and Undying Dynasties.
So I will post pictures of stuff I finish and paint.
Planning to post stuff every 2 or 3 days, depends on the spare time I have and the things I get done.
Plan is to finish Undying Dynasties by the end of April so I can start recording 9th Age BR's and attend most tournaments as possible.
Here and there I will also post stuff that my friend does as he is Pro-painter and his miniatures and stuff he do is simply amazing.
Also, I will post the stuff we do for our local gaming club (facebook.com/KMMPanonniaMinor/) like terrains, scenic stuff or finishing some army or maybe organizing some 9th Age event.
In my "pilot" post I will post few pictures of what I painted last few weeks for my Warriors of the Dark Gods army, before switching to Undying Dynasties.
Elder Dragon Centaur - EDC
I would say I'm not much of a painter but I'm getting better with every miniature
So here it is, the first post to "break the ice".
Talk to you soon, in few days to be precise. With more WoDG models and bunch of other stuff coming, so stay tuned! [Read More]

Tale of many Gamers Part 4!!!!
This month on the Tale of Many Gamers, the Ammertime team prep for the Battle of Copenhagen Tournament coming up at the end of the month:
This month I have been very busy with the VC. I have finished my unit of skeleton halberdiers (the Templehof Mauverines) and a unit of bat swarms.
Wip shots of my tuskers, I opted for more red than the rest of my ogres so far, mostly to break monotomy. Everything is magnetized, and if I could say so myself, my magnetizing skills make up for the painting!
Just preparing for the tournament.. painting details and putting on magnets!
"He rips your head of and eats you heart as a snack" . "Bathing in the blod of his enemies, leaving his armour with a filthy smell and a horrendous rotten look" .
[b]This month Ive started work on my Tomb cataphracts again. I made this unit probably in the middle of 8th edition but never finished them. But now Im trying to go back in time for Battle of Copenhagen. The snakes are circled arpund wedding cake pillars, making them a bit tricky to build but quite nice in the end. Theres some details added like a greenstuff banner.[/b]
That's it for the hobby from last month. You can expect a pre tournament and post tournament podcast coming up in the next few weeks so stay tuned.

So I'm working on a custom Ark of Ages as a commission piece and as I'm trying to figure out how to build this thing (I was definitely going to have face melting) I went back to read the Undying Dynasties entry on it only to realize that it's supposed to be an Egyptian boat on wheels. Because the word "Ark" means vessel. And the entry for what used to be a Casket of Souls is on down the list. That had been confusing me, as the Ark is a chariot now, but I hadn't really bothered to dig too deeply into it and hadn't run up against UD too many times so it hadn't come up in games. I also hadn't gotten any guidance from my commissionee, other than "make it look cool", so he was about to get an Ark of the Covenant melting the faces off of some Imperial inquisitors on a small chariot. Now he's getting an Egyptian war barge. My how language is a funny thing. [Read More]
GAME 3 – Undying Dynasties
The last game of the tourney was against Serge, a veteran gamer who brought a small yet very efficient list:
Pharaoh, Commander of Terracotta army, Vanquisher Eternal, Mask of Teput
Death Cult Hierarch, Level 3 Path of Sands, Book of the Dead, Soul Conduit
Death Cult Acolyte, Level 1 Path of Sands, Dispel Scroll
Tomb Harbinger, BSB, War Banner
6 Chariots, Full Command, Flaming Banner
4 Chariots, Full Command
Battle Sphinx, Breath Weapon
Battle Sphinx, Breath Weapon
27 Necropolis Guard, Halberds, Full Command, Stalker’s Standard
I had never faced a Terracotta Necropolis Guard Deathstar (TNGD for short), but I’d heard enough stories to know that this unit cannot be underestimated. It didn’t help that the last game of the day would be played without a secondary objective, meaning that I’d have to actually kill some undead to get points!
The good news were that the TNGD is slow, and that there were only 20 bow shots in the army. So the battle plan was simple: outdeploy, outmaneuver, kill everything around the deathstar and then (eventually) move in for the kill. That last part is where I expected my plan to blow up in my face, as has happened countless times before. An important detail of the plan was to isolate units, and pull them out of formation. The only way I’d be able to commit would be by making sure that the NG wouldn’t be able to countercharge me in return.
Magic: Dryad Matriarch got 0,3 (Wilderness), Druid got 0,1 (White), Hierarch got 4,5,6 (Sands) and Acolyte got 1 (Sands)
So the good news was that there were no movement spells for the UD: redirecting the deathstar becomes a lot more difficult when you’ve got two movement spells to dispel per turn.
Deployment resulted in me outdeploying the UD, which pitted two units of Kestrels and the Forest Guard against the small chariot unit, the Briar Maidens, Heath Riders and Wild Huntsmen against the two sphinx and the NG, while in the centre the Thicket Beasts squared off against the chariots, with all the small and squishy units more than 32” away from the chariot shooting. My opponent decided to take the first turn, and battle was joined!
TURN 1 – Undying Dynasties
The undead battle line moved up in unison, no surprises there. Magic started with a particularly high casting roll of boosted divine judgment on the Briar Maidens. I used up all my dice to dispel that, letting everything else through, including Shifting Sands on the Briar Maidens. Shooting put a wound on the leftmost Kestrels.
TURN 1 – Sylvan Elves
The left flank redeployed a bit, with the Briar Maidens staying more than 18” away from the sphinx (for fear of the Breath Weapon), and the Wild Huntsmen relocating more centrally. The Kestrels moved up towards the small chariot unit, as did the Forest Guard. The Thicket Beasts entered the charge zone of the big chariots, tempting them to charge.
Magic opened with the phoenix rises healing the wound off the kestrels and putting a White token on the Thicket Beasts, then all my attempts to hurt the big chariots from afar were ineffective (Redwood shaft failed to cast and the Curse of the wildwood was dispelled). Shooting proved to be equally ineffective, not a single wound was scored by the Sylvan Archers.
TURN 2 – Undying Dynasties
The chariots took the bait and fell into the Thicket Beasts, while the sphinx and NG continued their slog towards my lines. The small chariots tried to swift reform, but failed its Ld and reformed instead, keeping the kestrels in their front arc. Magic saw me use my scroll to stop yet another Divine Judgment, then I used my dice to stop the Ancient Glory, letting through the Cursed Blades on the chariots.
The impact hits of the chariots proved to be quite ineffective: 9 of them were dealt, but between rolls to wound, armour and ward saves, all of them were ignored. In retaliation, the thicket beasts dealt 11 wounds on the chariots and received a single wound back. The chariots were disintegrated, allowing my Thicket Beasts to pivot to face the sphinx’s flank.
TURN 2 – Sylvan Elves
Seizing the opportunity, thicket beasts and a unit of Wild Huntsmen tag-teamed on the rightmost sphinx. The Kestrels and the second unit of Wild Huntsmen moved into position to flank the smaller chariot unit on the following turn, with the Forest Guard offering themselves as bait. The Briar Maidens spotted a blind corner in the sphinx’s charge arc, so moved in for some poisoned shots. Finally, the skirmishing part of the army moved about to create threatening situations, while the Heath Riders were shoved right in front of the Sphinx and NG to stall them a bit.
Magic was yet again ineffective, but shooting succeeded in putting two wounds on the unengaged sphinx!
In combat the combined efforts of the Wild Huntsmen and the Thicket beasts made… [Read More]
In my first game ever against the Kingdom of Equitaine, I decided to bring my own cavalry in the form of 10 Skeleton Horsemen being led by a Pharaoh on a horse! Unsure if that will be enough to deter the invading knights I also bring a unit of scarab swarms to see how they will fare. Last battle report from v0.11.0
Here I quickly go over some of the armies and units that were present at the small tournament we had here in my area. A majority of us players believe that many of the armies are at a very reasonable power level. Most of the armies felt very balanced. We all agreed that the elf-armies were probably a little bit on the powerful side. Just lots of rules and versatile units that work towards their benefit.
Overall the tournament was a complete blast. We all love the rules, the game, and the playability of so many different list-styles. We particularly love the secondary objectives which brings a whole new level to being a competent general and list-builder.
First game of my small tournament here at my house. Trying to help my gaming group more familiar with and excited about The 9th Age. My dragon-lord makes her debut (sadly unfinished) against a big scary horde of Necropolis Guard. Critique very much welcome.
I am hosting the first 9th Age tournament in my area (that I am aware of) at my home.
6 players, 6 different armies, 3 games, secondary objectives, and one game of each kind of deployment.
In this video I go over the 6 lists that were sent in. Let me know what you guys think of the lists. Who do you think has the best chance to win it all?

The foot clan are licking their wounds after a hellish first round against the Cthullu God's Warriors. They find themselves on the same battlefield and an egyptian themed army has arisen from the earth. Can Shredda, Baxter, Krang, Longshot, and Sasuka handle this foe? Or will the mighty Colossus and War Sphinx crush the greenskins? Lets find out.....
