In this post I will kind of guide you through the Main Changes for Dread Elves.
Common Rules Changes
Volley Fire: By Volley fire Changing a lot of the previous shooty Builds for other Armies are gone. They now have to see the opposing Unit and then can shoot over some heads. However they cannot fire from more ranks now. This will indirectly make our Repeater Crossbows more viable in comparison to archers.
Paired Weapons no longer granting additional agility is a good thing for our troops. Paired Weapons will no longer grant such an advantage against us.
The Charging Bonus (+1 agility on the charge) is a disadvantage for us as many enemies might now strike at the same time with us when they charge. This means that the Game gets more strategic and tactical for us. Avoiding charges can be really important in certain matchups.
The changes to Frenzy are an upside. We don't have to Overrun anymore and blades of nah say thank you. Charge baiting at -2 ld is a thing but since our troops have got a high movement it is easy to back up our blades in case they really get charge baited, especially considering they don't have to overrun anymore.
Skirmishers now have 360° LoS. This means our Raven Cloaks are way more versatile now, and have more shooting targets--> they benefit like ultra and I hope they will see the field more regularly.
Beasts now come with swift stride. Guess who are beasts? Right Kraken and Hydra. Prepare for the joy.
Here are the best news. Big Fat nerf to Pyromancy. All AP values are gone from Pyro, this means our troops are not as unprotected as they used to be. Scorching Salvo was nerfed hard and thats good for us since this was the most damaging spell most of the time for us. Cosmology got a big power increase. Together with wandering familiar we can get 30" range with our caster. Ice and Fire is now superb. Even the alchemy chaff spell has got a power increase. Together with Irresistible Will we can this time really have a good old offensive magic phase. Boni to dispelling are gone completely. Again that benefits us really hard. we can get up to -1 on dispelling attempts for the enemy and simultaneously +2 to our spells which gives us a great advantage in the magic phase. Additionally consider that while we get big advantages in the Magic Phase the opponent remains with no advantages at all while dispelling. Together with all our buffed lords the MAGIC PHASE WILL BE GREAT AGAIN!
Most of our Magic Items are there to grant bonuses to our army as a whole. Combine Moraecs reaping with Amulet of Spite our Army benefits. Combine different Academy Banners our army benefits. Ring of shadows? the unit benefits. While our items might not always grant a character that super OP Build our army in general raises its powerlevel.
The State of the Dread Elf book
Well apart from the seriously hated cults our army in general might really be in a good spot. Always consider the synergy. Most Point Values went down and we get a little more freedom to play around. I don't think the BLT erased all issues points wise but its not as bad as it used to be. In general a lot more sinergies are possible now and I hope we will be able to show other races that we are their masters more often.
