Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

Am I correct in thinking that Shady Gits are not upgrades to Common Goblin units (since you 'take' them and don't 'upgrade' a model to be one)? If your Common Goblin unit is running with bows, you then don't pay for a bow for these guys?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    micdicdoc

With Shady Gits, the max size of the unit is then 63 models? Do I have this right?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    piteglio

i see it the other way. unlike Mad Gits, you *deploy* Shady Gits. so i would pay 57 goblins, 3 gits, and 60 bows. but i look forward to the opinion of someone who know more than i do.

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Lich King

I'd say: 1. they're part of the unit and the units maximum size is set to 60. Regardless of the type of model.

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Lich King

    2. You don't need to buy bows for them. They can't even buy a bow. So they don't pay and they can't use bows. So 57 Common goblins with bows and three shady gits

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    micdicdoc

Arguably then, 2. also applies when buying Mad Gits?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    micdicdoc

So if you want three Mad Gits you could only ever have a max 57 Cave Goblins?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt
    Lich King

I'd say the Surprise rule makes them not count against that limit since they're not deployed with unit

Update! All the six documents have been updated, but some only with minor changes. The most notable changes are: - All Alone and Fleeing moved to Optional Rules. They were fairly complex rules that almost never came into play. - Model Rule unnestled…

Yes, redeployment via portal is not an advance or march move, so no loss of resilience. Actually, teleportation is a mode of movement highly esteemed by Nukuja :D

You can’t ignore the ammo tho... Is the complaint really that the vanilla mortar is a standard catapult (and priced as such)? Cause if so the ID team should be pretty pleased with themselves if that’s the only complaint.

Great idea! :) And sort of already done that! gIhkGP3.jpg The red I use as a base for the pink usually is a deeply saturated pink but on the yellow it turns orange-red. Maybe won't affect the end result that much but pink is pretty!
