Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

I love the design in this book. Roman theme is fantastic. Character section looks especially nice. First time in 16 years of Warhammer/T9A that I am interested in starting a rat army. (strictly speaking about feel. Can't comment on mechanics or power…

My understanding of the background is that the Vermin are trying - poorly - to emulate Avrasi culture. I like that. The problem with the use of out-of-the-box Roman names and words is that it doesn’t convey a Vermin’s impression of Avras, it instead…

Something I would like to change is the name of the Eagle Standard. Seriously, I think an eagle no fit with this army, the eagle is a symbol of beauty, bravery, courage, honour, pride, determination, and grace. This is the oposite of this army, I know…

there are already armies with way more special rules only they have, like DH with all their runes. Simply because they are around for a long time nobody realizes that or complains about it. So after a new book stops being new, and people are fmiliar with…

Moving Tunnel Markers is interesting, but currently the mechanic by itself is not really supported by the rest of the book. For example: the only case in which the Bell of the Deep Roads provides meaningful uses is when you put a unit underground with…

Quote from Eldan: “Not entirely. They both have Roman names, but I can't find a Legate in the VS book, or a Senator in the Elven one. But yeah, I find it really weird that the DE have so many Roman names. I mean, why, exactly? Their main inspirations…

Some three years ago when the Roman background for Vermin was started, I also didn't like it that much. It was just not the familiar thing. But after a while I got used to it, and today I love it. What I don't like that much is the Roman stuff on DE. I…
