This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

@RoB - the first instalment would be with 1 person = 1 country = 1 continent. if the format works well, we add another round with 4 more factions / people. im a bit worried we wont find many players for Africa / Asia, tho. maybe we should pool them with SouthAmerica / Australia respectively?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

    Europe // NorthAmerica // Africa+SouthAmerica // Asia+Australia(+NZ) ?

  • wcf.user.avatar.alt

then we can have 4 rounds with 4 factions each and cover all 16 factions.

When pooling people per continent, you got to think about the time zones. It's already difficult for me here to get a game with people in Europe because when i start wanting to play (at 20h) they start going to bed (at 22h). So don't pool Africa with America and Oz.

the alternative is simple: find me at least four people who are happy to represent Africa, and no pooling will be needed! ;: )

i'm fine with them not having special rules, i don't think every unit in the game should have a special rule. they're already flying skirmishers which are Insignificant. if they beefed them up a bit and increased the min. size to say ten then they would…

I don't think Onix Core needs extra Strength, as there are already plenty of rerolls, access to +1 to wound from Pyro and Guantlets, but perhaps it could gain +1Att. It seems to me a cheap weapon that could be more emblematic.

I don't even think Onyx core is good. 4 S5 ap2. D3 wound. The D3 is nice, but Good luck getting through armour and ward save. and he is just bad against, non multiple wound units..... And we pay a lot for him. I don't feel there is a good build for him…
