Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

Normally, I'm gonna play that on the 12 February, either against dread elves or sylvan elves. It's important to say that at the time I wrote the list, I didn't know yet what army I would fight at all, it could well have been VC or WDG. --- Characters :…

Overall I finished 11th/16, with 45/100 TPs. Not a great score for sure. Breaking it down in my mind: G1 (DH)- Scary, swingy, difficult matchup to play. G2 (VC)- Armyswap fail on my part. G3 (ID)- Scary, swingy, difficult matchup to play. G4 (SE)- Fair…

I think what we're missing is a term I don't really see on this forum: NPE - Negative Player Experience (Though now that I gave it a search I see that it might not really be a common term in general) It's supposed to be a name for things like…

A design having too much power is not the same as being overpowered. Having too little or too much power is a quantitative category. Being over or underpowered is a qualitative one. Whether a certain level of power is good or bad for the game is again…

So, a kid and Covid has kept me from playing the past 20 months, and finally I have time again. So I started playing with lists and they all end up variations on “smash face” - that’s all good but I recall us having “powerful magic” as an army…
