Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our Cookie Policy.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age is an independent table top miniature wargame set in a fantasy world, in which players take control of armies and set them upon one another in conflicts ranging from minor skirmishes to mighty battles with hundreds of models.

The game and all of its rules are completely free to download and use, and consist of a main rulebook and over fifteen army documents, ranging from stoic men and noble elves to the feral orcs and dread worshipers of the dark gods. You can easily assemble your own army using appropriate 28mm miniatures from any manufacturer.

Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age has been created by a group of experienced wargamers, a large supportive staff and continuous input from the wargaming community. We aim to provide a competitive, balanced and fun game, with updates and new rules to be released regularly.

We’ve created 16 unique armies from the Dread Elves in the west to the Ogre Khans in the east. Each army has different units and playstyles and can be represented by models from any 28mm model company. People said it was impossible, but we have created a game that is both balanced and fun. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourselves.

Happy wargaming.

@ leclerk, the weak point of Mirrored Scales is that it applies only to the hit roll and only to rolls of 1, so if the attack doesn't roll

Always this "healing" argument. As if the model would heal itself, not an expensive wizard that is not even considered in this calculation. I think this is a very wrong view on the topic. Having access to Druidism does not make your army straight better,…

Challenge entry - weapon beasts I agree that the weapon teams should have starting size 2+. Weapon teams always come in packs of 2 with no option for more models. Easy. I like reusing common rules so I feel a Salamander would do well with; -

I like the thematic ambush @Palinux et al Can ambush from water/ruin/impassable (as BGT see fit) as alternative to common ambush - feels like its using design space that no other entries really cover. I also like @Doug_Ls combat swarms very much. I…

I really like playing a large unit of Askländer with GW and Ravenbanner. As a horde they can attack from 4 ranks, that's cool. but they quickly lose their power, 8 models more I would prefer the TW. What I'm missing in your list, something fast to kill…

the game is just as much about charging units autowinning today, it just takes one turn longer. But the general principles are the same, but more boring and unbalanced. However step up can stay if the additional attacks from ranke 2+ are gone.
