    19. advice from the Aschau Miltary Academy

    (i) Marshals are given full access to the Imperial Armoury,
to the Imperial Arsenal, and to the Imperial Zoo.
choose wisely which one to visit first.

(ii) should you visit the Imperial Zoo first,
remember not to rely on the size of your mount.
small foes are still to be feared.

(iii) your mount will be a mighty asset,
but do not trust her to do all the killing for you.
you still are in charge of the fight.

    (iv) stay humble,
    put your faith in Sunna,
and the victory will be yours.

    (v) i meant, it probably will, unless,
you know, kind of like, your opponent
    has the Rune of Smashing.

    18. big support = big monsters

how do you imagine a gladiator in T9A terms? size Standard and type Infantry, right?
well, thursday's livestream showed us (and Althus, specifically) that big monsters can be fun as well.
so how do we put large monsters in the Arena? well, the concept is the same:

    - scout a model you like from a viable miniature company
    - shoot a bazillion pictures with the proper equipment
    - scan the model using academic grade nerdy software
    - incorporate in the game and have fun!

this is a Sentinel of Nukuja i saw at the BeLaMa tournament, organised by @DucdeGuerre two or three weeks ago. the composition was created by Josch, based on a Collidion miniature by Black Orc Games - you can still find its sculptor at Satyr Art Studio. i guess that the expression "it feeds on your fear" can be taken quite literally for such a scary daemonic coprophagous beetle! : D

if you want to see more beautiful community-made miniatures in the free T9A videogame, dont forget to support us on patreon. help us build a world where everybody can play with "actual" miniatures from home, and for free. as always, you can discuss and find additional infos in the open discussion thread for this blog.

    17. the fight is ON!

i've waited so long for this moment - it's time to share our Patreon campaign with you! we only launched our page a couple hours ago, but thanks to your donations we have already unlocked several upgrades for our free Arena.

the plan was to start with a single gladiator, represented by a simple box, and with a single card with the name of the options and enchantments it has.

thanks to your donations, we now have five gladiators, represented by a 2D standee (see below), and with several cards including the profile and special rules, separately for each gladiator.

each next stretch goal will bring you a new gladiator, and some will bring you upgrades like customised line of sight tools or 3D sculpts for the gladiators. if you want to help us bring The Ninth Age to the success it deserves, join us in our crowdfunding campaing. you'll have the chance to choose who the next gladiator will be, you will have the possibility to play the game before the game is released. but more importantly, your donation allows us to share our free platform with many new players. see you on

    cheers,

    16. Sylvan Elves are ready to fight!

how much work is to put a SE Druid into the arena?

    - joel127 sculpts a druid on his computer
    - he 3D-prints it, paints it, ships it to me
    - i digitalise it and put it into the game
    - Chack chooses options for a 500pts build
    - i make 5 unit cards with art from T9A
    - i create a customised line of sight tool for the elf
    - i create cards for each spell in the chosen path
    - aw, man, it's Shamanism... we need a totemic beast!
    - Borgio scratchbuilds and paints a totemic beast
    - i scan it and put it into the game
    - oh, we need a different line-of-sight tool for random movement!
    - all done? no, the forest embrace!
    - i prepare an additional forest terrain with T9A art
    - ok, i guess we're ready to play now!

so, in total: two new minis, terrain, line of sight tools, and a dozen new cards for the Arena. do you want to see them in action? we've invited Chack to play with this unusual gladiator, in a fight against Ayuvelon and his Marshal on Great Griffon (sculpted by Signum Games, painted by Adaephon_Delat). i might chime in as well, just to see how a minor spellcaster would behave against a Master. if you're curious, subscribe to our YouTube channel ( youtube.com/c/VeiloftheAges ) to be notified of tonight's livestream at 08:30pm (GMT). and as usual, you can leave your comments in the VotA open thread on this forum: bit.ly/VotA_002

    15. a miniature is looking for rules

    - find a beautiful miniature composition: CHECK
    - scan it and put it into the videogame: CHECK
    - choose equipment options and play: ...

in your opinion, which model fits best this 50x100mm composition by Josch? it includes a Collidion by Black Orc Games, and was scanned at the BeLaMa tournament in Düren a couple weeks ago. if it's at 500 points, 'd say... uhm... a Harbinger of Father Chaos on Dark Pulpit?
as usual, for comments there's the open thread

    14. show your miniatures in the Arena

...and when we say that you can influence the future of the Arena, we really mean it! thanks to the magic of nerdiness, we are populating our virtual battlefield with your miniatures. you can either sculpt your own mini or use a design from one of our supporting companies. paint it, send us pictures, and enjoy the pride of seeing your creations in the Arena. have a look at how Remy77077 interpreted this Orc Shaman from Avatars of War, or how Adaephon_Delat rendered this Marshal on Griffon from Signum Games. we can put them in the Arena either as bidimensional standee (shaman) or as tridimensional miniature (marshal):

our collection is growing by the day, thanks to the art donations by supportive forum members like Little Joe, Xanatan, Marcos24, joel127 and many more. if you want to contribute to this project, i'll see you on Patreon this weekend.
    cheers,

We are releasing battles left, right and centre - and rightfully so as we have a HUGE backlog to get through before getting truly up to date. So lets gets straight into round number 2 for both of us shall we...

I get paired up against my own club-mate and player who i managed to 20 in our last meeting with these exact armies, while Hyper-G is matched up in an all Greenskins tie for a possible early indicator to see who has the best chance in Best of Race. Two completely different, yet exciting battles for their own reasons. Could Tony get redemption against me and could Hyper-G stamp down his authority on another Orc general? Too many questions, such little time... well actually the videos are available to be watched in your own time at your own pace but you get the picture!!! GO!

    Highborn Elves vs Undying Dynasties

Orcs & Goblins vs Orcs & Goblins

P.S. we hope you are enjoying our delve into new graphics and (slightly) new set up for battle report viewing. Please comment to let us know if this is a positive change and what we can do in the future to improve your viewing experience. PTG is looking to increase the quality of our videos and we need your help!!!

Also, make sure you subscribe, blah blah blah - you know the drill! :D [Read More]
  • Our game deserves more visibility!

as you'll have seen from the last News announcement, we are ready to bring T9A in homes, clubs and stores across the entire globe. we'll start small and easy, with heroic duels in the Arena. but fear not: soon the conflict will be scaled up to an entire battlefield, with hundreds of models, in the usual 4500pts format you know and love. to get there, however, we need your help. if we want to put up an effective outreach operation, there is a lot of work to do - and you can help us with your donations. that's why on Valentine's Day we'll start a crowdfunding campaign on Patreon.

what's Patreon, you ask? it's like Kickstarter, or any other platform where you can contribute to a project. the difference is that with Patreon you can also contribute on a month-by-month basis. which is exactly what we need to keep the Arena growing into a full-fledged battlefield! even a single tiny contribution of 2$ can help us gain visibility, and hopefully start a snowball effect that will finally turn T9A into the planetary succes it deserves to be. but you can also contribute because you want to help us decide how the Arena should look and play. we are open to discuss art and rules with those of you who wish to do so. we always have - since the good old times of the QuickStarter Gallery Contests, or the Arena Kitting Contests. it's your choice: help us a bit, or help us a lot. but if you love this game, consider investing into its growth, with us. if you want to see a preview of our campaign, you can visit this link.

we often read on these forums that "we should do more", "we need to get into stores", "our player base is not expanding", "the competition is rough", "we need to take youtube by storm", "we should have greater social media presence", "T9A deserves more visibility". well, our campaign aims to do precisely this: show T9A to the world. we want to collect funds by giving a free game to the hundreds of thousands players of Tabletop Simulator, and by advertising it to the million users of Patreon. we will reuse part these funds to make quality videos so we can reach the sbravazillion people on YouTube, and another part to fund the publication of books to send into the stores of the whole world. and, in the process, we will create a beautiful videogame you can play for free, give you free print-at-home cards for your units and spells, and share free miniature designs for those who have a 3D printer.

below you'll find a little excerpt of the information provided on the Patreon page, in FAQ form.
for feedback and discussion, you're always welcome to post in our VotA blog open thread.
    cheers,
    f

    What are my options?
    - you can make a one-time donation from as little as 2$, and help us gain visibility
    - you can become a long-term supporter and make a monthly donation
    - you can stop supporting us any time you want with a simple click, no questions asked!

What am I contributing to, exactly?
    - in the first two weeks, your donations will help us release our free videogame
    - from March on, your donations will allow us to create at least a new model each month

What do I get in return?
    - depending on your donations, you can be credited in the game and/or influence its future
    - you could decide which models are created, how they look, and which options they have
    - our models are made available to everybody. You will be helping those who cannot contribute themselves. For those of you who think this is a small thing, trust me... it's not : )

Why should I be excited and tell my friends about this?
    - donations help us unlock goals you can benefit from, like upgrades for the videogame
    - some upgrades are quite tangilble, like printable cards and printable miniatures!
    - more donors means a nicer Arena, with more players to meet and play with (or against)
    - we release the game for free because we want to share the fun... don't you?

Do I need a copy of Tabletop Simulator to play the videogame?
    - yes you do: we can distribute our expansion for free, but you will still need the main game
    - it's like giving you the PDF version of a card game... you should still have access to a printer!
    - depending on retailers and group offers, a lifetime license could cost as little as 8$
    - you can get Tabletop Simulator here

for Beginners: Where can I learn more about this game?
    - the Beginner route to the west of the Arena contains all you need!
    - you can download the advanced rules for T9A from the Ninth Age website
    - you can also learn by watching gameplay videos on our youtube channel

for Experts: Arena duels are cute, but I'm only into large 4500-point battles...
...and we know you're not alone! That's why we keep adding gladiators every month. Once all factions are represented by at least one gladiator, we will focus on one faction at a time and create playable armies. You'll get to play both private games and international virtual tournaments. If you are a top-tier competitive… [Read More]
  • Hey guys!

While we are fully on board the hype train for Bristol Art of War 3, there is still time to take a look back at the tourney's been and gone. And just before christmas, @PTG - Hyper-G and I were able to get away for the weekend for a fantastic 3,500 point tournament at Board in Brum. The mdeium sized tournament (30 players strong) boasted 6 games over the 2 days and a challenging 2hr game time for each round. Could not have enjoyed ourselves more, and with the videos coming out, thought it best to share with you guys our endeavors!

But first here are our lists:

    Lucky Sixes Fire Elves

    Hyper-Gs Troll Fest

And without further ado we go balls deep into round #1. I end up on a table 1 livestream with a grudge match against anti-fire warriors (D'oh), and Hyper-G takes on the dinosaurs - both in search of an early victory. Enjoy!

    OnG vs SA
