  • Quote from Klexe: “Dread is a hard path to execute. From a human point of view: Why should dread elves have special rules showing their "dread" and ogre, vampires, dl or Wdg Highborn and Sylvan Elves not? If delves get that what do "good" races distinct factions get to show their good faith distinction? ” Corrected for you. Ogres, Vampires, Daemons and Warriors of the Dark Gods don't need to be sorted from potential non-dread Ogres, non-dread Vampires, non-dread Daemons and non-dread Warriors of…

  • Thank you BGT for the explanations. So much for me thinking that with my privileged access to hidden background, I could help to design Homebrew rather compatible with what BGT had in mind. I understand that it is not worth for us Hoebrewers to adjust KG. Rather, what we need to do is to enjoy it until times comes for DH to become a LAB. Not to spoil any decision (or lack or), but this may leave us a couple of years. This is part of the mission of Homebrewers: to fill not only gap which are left…

  • @WhammeWhamme You may not realize to which point it was appreciated to have a member of BGT taking the time to read one Homebrew and mentioning a possibility to incorporate parts of it. Sad to see difficulties of communication causing your discouragement. Is there any way we could make the dialogue between BGT and Homebrew authors more constructive?

  • Great explanations, deep thanks! Now, back to my question, would there be a similar way to sort out DE from HE from SE? - Sure, for those belonging to a political block, easy. - Sure, for Vetian-origin Elves, easy, those who remained = SE, those who crossed half the Ocean = HE, those who crossed it whole = DE. - But for those Elves not of Vetian origins? Arctic Elves? Polynesian Sea Elves? "Tazan" Rainforest Elves? Sadarikadesha Naga half-snake Elves? Subterranean Elves? "Dune" sand Elves?

  • Quote from WhammeWhamme: “ID are the religious dwarves, the ones with spellcasters. ” This is what I had in mind, probably very loosely interpreted.

  • Quote from Ghiznuk: “You know, nothing prevents you from spamming Homebrew section with random elf cultures, the way KarakNornClansman does with his dwarves hahaha ” Let me clarify. For Dwarves, there is no racial or political difference between DH and ID. The difference between DH and ID is most importantly religious, i.e. whether they use runes or magic. Anything else is cultural. Hence our Kegiz Gavem is to be considered ID, rather than DH as we did. For Humans, there is no racial or religiou…

  • T9A: Grand Companies

    Calisson - - Homebrew 9th Age

    Post

My experience from Homebrew shows that it requires initially one person to set up all costs. Best is to do it by comparison with some equivalent in EoS AB, for example. Once done, it is much easier for others to criticize constructively. Anyway, if the balance is slightly off, it is not breaking the game.

  • Political allegiance to the Dathen Republic, to the Queen of Celeda Ablan or to the Kingdom of Wyscan characterize an Elf as "Dread", "High" or Sylvan". Are there other Elven communities, not attached to any of these three? Would they be most likely close to one of the three archetypes, in that case, what defines precisely each archetype if not the political allegiance? Or would a random Elf community not related to these three be totally different, like Sagarikadesha or Vanhu is different from …

  • Quote from noir: “What playstyle do you guys want to play? ” I love to play DE around two themes: corsair and beastmaster. I should be happy with next edition! Corsair MMU/Cav MSU, with corsairs as main units, complemented by agile raiding units. Beastmaster's Monster Mash, with heavy raptor cavalry.

  • Quote from DarkSky: “Me too, but the Guidelines mention the Dread Reaper as stationary again. Maybe this could be a point where the ADT will be willing to pivot? ” Quote from Giladis: “ Quote from Calisson: “ I'd be happy to trade less range for more mobility. ” Or more volume. ” Could the LAB team have the freedom to chose between giving the Dread Reaper more volume or more mobility as a trade off for range?

  • Quote from DarkSky: “Quote from Aglion: “Yeah I also hope that the ''DE should not be good at long range with shooting'' doesn't impact our dread reapers. ” I will most likely do. One thing they seem to be looking at is to reduce the range to 36'' and offset it with something else. At least that was in Ninth Scroll (#3 I think). ” I'd be happy to trade less range for more mobility.

  • Please don't put burgers and fast food in the directive. And no, DE being based in T9A~North Murica is not an excuse.

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “Quote from Moment: “Personally I don't think there should be much ap reduction or increase (as hand weapon with ap 1), it just creates an arms race, which I think should be avoided at all cost. ” I agree about AP creep having to be watched out for.In the guidelines it says this: Shooting for this army should have the following themes clearly represented; - short ranged, - maneuverable, - high volume of mediocre* shots, and - units can enter combats The units gotta be able…

  • Quote from Ozzy666: “I just had this thought - Apart from mounts and monsters the only non-elves are Medusas and Harpies. Medusa's rule set indicates Medusas are daemons, which makes them easily acceptable. But what about Harpies? 1. Are they an intelligent species? If so, they cannot be slaves (since DE don't use slaves for military purposes). So why do they fight for DE then? 2. Are they a sub-species/sub-breed of elves? If so, they wouldn't fight completely unarmed and unarmoured. And why wou…

  • Indeed, from Scroll #5. There is also: Quote from Arcane Compendium: “WITCHCRAFT We fought the Dread Elves at the Black Sound, a small but deep bay in the northern provinces. I was serving as a marine aboard Knight Commander Branberg’s own flagship, the Ambition’s End. That was the first and only time I’ve fought those Sunna damned creatures. You think you know about curses and magic Inquisitor? Think again. Their witches were able to bring up fogs from nowhere, lead us on wild chases, and conf…

  • Something else is missing. Where is the directive: Make the Dread Elves Dread Again!

  • Quote from Klexe: “Women are Mmh well... Shown as like in the 80 painted by men. ” Maybe we should get inspiration from authentic medieval art? Women should wear something on their hair. (Hidden Content)

  • The way DE was described in the old times was "pick up your fights". Happy to see DE set to become the emblematic faction of MSU, but will we get enough maneuvering to be able to avoid unwanted combats? The DE art of war, perfected by generations of players, was to use MSU to avoid engaging the opponent's death star while destroying all its other units. I wonder how it becomes in the guidelines: "Lateral movement is decent in (some) shooty units, but limited in combat units. Combat units are pri…

  • The normal process is that when the LAB team in charge of designing a new AB comes up with a cool idea, but this idea proves not to be fitting with the army book, they set it apart for a potential Supplement. It could be because the LAB focuses on a specific background and the supplement would open it up to other cultures (like the Terracotta army as a Chinese variant for UD, which is today part of the AB but would better be a supplement IMO, however at the time, it was not an established proced…

  • Quote from Little Joe: “I think it can work if 50% of the ID units are ignored and 2-3 original concepts added. Worth a discussion or too heretical. Too much change to the project should be discussed for sure. ” Well worth a discussion! Moreover, this could become a great experience where an official team works together with Homebrew enthusiasts to create a Supplement AB.
