  • Quote from marotta: “What do people think is the most viable favour if one wants to run a mono list with all ascending unit types present? (maybe not the Lord) ” For me, it's Envy. That Favour is the clear winner of the new book, IMO. It gives infantry Swiftstride, which is an amazing boost to our ability to scoop up points. It pairs ridiculously well with Rod of Battle by essentially turning all of our attacks into auto hits, and even if you can't get that spell off you're still left with what …

  • Quote from Ira: “Hello, small question : How does Magic Resistance interact with Bound Spells ? It is said that : " Learned Spells and Bound Spells targeting at least one enemy unit with one or more models with Magic Resistancesuffer a −X modifier to their casting roll (where X is given in brackets). This is an exception to the Casting andDispelling Modifier rule " But there is no casting roll on Bound Spell, does that mean that they still automatically pass but to dispel them you have to do 4-X…

  • Quote from Auto2: “In an army where basically every unit is a close combat unit, IMO one should avoid creating units that are "generally good in combat", because of the obvious problem of niche saturation. So the chosen lord should probably be a specialist, good against other characters. Just my 2 cents. ” I'm not sure I agree that the CL needs any significant changes to stand out among the other options in the book, but I do like the idea of him being a character-killer. Perhaps any non-Fearles…

  • Quote from Palmu: “I'd like for a single smaller unit of Chosen be available through Core, personally. ” Quote from Auto2: “I definitely don't want chosen in core. ” I'd also like to see Chosen in Core. Access could come via a GIft of the Dark Gods, to introduce a significant opportunity cost (I could even see this Gift being free.) "First of the Favoured The bearer must be the army's General. Chosen infantry units count as Core units, and the army cannot include any models with Path of the Exil…

  • Must? Nah dog. Plenty of people fielded armies without BSBs before this update, those people lost nothing but can still enjoy their larger, higher-Discipline army. It's all about player preference. If you prefer re-rolls, you still have access to them albeit in a different form. If, for you, that form is worse than it was previously, I accept that to be your valid opinion.

  • Quote from saint_barbara: “The objectiveness of that statement doesn't really speak to me. ” Exalted Herald has access to his most-desired spell regardless of manifestation chosen, did not lose access to any previous benefits or special rules, and stayed the same price. We gained easy and widespread access to Discipline 9. Favour of Envy lost a slight amount of efficiency for cavalry units but importantly, HUGELY even, infantry now has access to Swiftstride. Building on that, we now have access …

  • Quote from zulu: “I really dont understand how you can complain about this update, its almost universally buffs to the book... ” Agreed. The book is objectively better by quite a wide margin. More play styles have been made viable, the points on the majority of the feel "feel" right as well as the overall internal balance.

  • Quote from Exalted Champion: “Can Destiny's Call be improved by Word of Iron spell? ” Quote from Shukran: “nothing can improve it ” Thankfully Hand of Glory from the Dark Prelate can provide that sweet 3++, as the "and cannot be improved beyond this" clause only applies to the armor being set at 3.

  • Quote from Jelle89: “Both bound spells (Prelate) cost you 3 dice (power level 8) right? ” They have 2 power levels, 4 which uses 2 dice, and 8 which uses 3 dice. The spell effects for either level are the same, it's just a matter of how hard they are to dispel.

  • Quote from There Is No Spoon: “We can better - CL of Greed, boom! And weaponmaster to boot. Make him general, dark Prelate, and go to town with a 250 point budget. But do we really need it with the current item pool? Nah. ” Yeah but now that the guy with the 250 point allowance can also take a magical banner? If you've got a reason to run a Greed lord, that is awesome.

  • Quote from Kaitin: “To have warrior background defining all the entries is boring. They are the same because background says they are the same. Background could say that they are something more interesting, but it didn't. And that is boring. ” You'll have to be a master salesman to convince people that a vague background that gives you free reign to tailor the story of your army however it pleases you is somehow less imaginative than a rigid structure that says "this is what this unit is, this i…

  • Quote from Kaitin: “I have to write a homebrew armybook to have their background properly implemented in their rules. Otherwise I have just dudes on horses pretending to be something they are not. ” When I put units on the table and my opponent asks what they do, I don't go "Well, since you asked..." and talk about the background of each one, recount the story of how they trudged through the Wasteland, found one another, and decided to band up together after some hilarious misadventures and corr…

  • Quote from Kaitin: “Do you feel the difference? Knights of Holyduck Keep have identity. Dudes on horses don't. The thing that they are just warriors on horses is the problem with their identity. ” Sounds like you just discovered their identity. Paint accordingly, and enjoy.

  • If I told my buddy that plays KoE that I didn't like taking Envy Warrior Knights because all I got for my 60-ish points was a Res 4 guy with 2 OS 5 Str 6 attacks with a 1+ save who's Fearless and re-rolls Break Tests and has resistance against Toxic Attacks and re-rolls 1's on charge rolls and 1's on to-hit rolls the turn that he charges, dude would straight up punch me in the throat, and he'd be right to do it.

  • I can't understand how knights lack identity. They're knights. I.E. literally just warriors on horses. Here's the flow chart: Want to sell your soul? Yes: Warrior No: not a Warrior Does your horse want to sell his soul, too? Yes: Warrior Knight No: Warrior That's it. Wish warriors were faster and better armored? They can be! Only in a book as spoiled for choice as ours could we consider knights the "boring" entry. Take lances, every time. GWs are just there to confuse you. Point them at another …

  • Quote from Auto2: “By the way with warriors, is anyone interested in taking warriors with favors? 25 vanilla spiked shield warriors is quite tempting with a dark prelate. Buff them up with rerolls to wound and a rending banner and save money + more survivability compared to halberds? If you were going to go down to 20, which mark would you take on a big unit? Anyone got any opinion on 15 fallen versus some form of barbarian unit? ” The only favour that's appealing to me is Envy for the Swiftstri…

  • Quote from Happy Aspid: “Question, probably more lorewise in nature. Why Karkadans cause fear? I mean, they are not very impressive as beasts, but many other much bigger and nastier things don't have fear rule. ” In your experience, are people more likely to run up to a dog and ask to pet it, or run away screaming like little girls? Are people more likely to try to catch a wasp in their hand, or run away screaming like little girls? The dog could tear your throat out, the wasp can cause you seve…

  • Quote from Auto2: “yeah but you have to be careful. If That spell is totally irrelevant then congratulations you are now 2 dice down. ” But in the case of tactics re: Dark Prelate as the OP is talking about, we're automatically assuming a combat is about to take place. +1 to hit, 5++, and re-rolls to wound are going to be anything other than irrelevant, even if the spell(s) that get through aren't what you really wanted. Always assume your opponent is at least as smart as you, meaning always ass…

  • With bound spells it's important to look at the magic phase from your opponent's point of view. A lot of times when I'm putting a magic phase together, I look at what I'm trying to accomplish with it. When using a lot of bound spells, I think it's better to consider what your opponent will be most likely to stop, and why. With Dark Prelate, you can forget getting either of his spells off if the only other spells you have are direct damage. I really enjoy the wizard giants because Glory of Gold i…

  • Quote from SkargitCrookfang: “Unburnt makes everything that isn't unburnt insignificant. ” Quote from SkargitCrookfang: “Quote from SkavenInAZ: “Question. Any reason a Warband standard Barb Chief could not join an unit of Feldraks to give them a reroll? ” Unburnt makes everything that isn't unburnt insignificant. ” I believe Insignificant units can only be joined by Insignificant characters, but Insignificant characters are able to join any unit.
