The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is here! You can read all about it in the news.

  • You should use continuous variables for the state space. Each unit's state would then be xy for posicion of center, orientation angle, and holding the width/length of unit. But in order to take any decision, you must take into account all the other states of all the other units in the battlefield. This isn't a limiting factor, and the actions by themselves could be represented by the set of positions you can actually go to (in case you move) or charge or whatever. However, you'd need some AI pla…

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from Xeonic: “It's the discretization is disagree with, I think it is an oversimplification that doesn't take into account the nuances of the movement phase. ” Well wargaming on ninth age is a continuous game, i.e. positions and angles can be any real number. So you're probably going to have to run some kind of discretization scheme to turn them into finite sets. it's best to start with a very rough discretizaion to see whether anything works at all and then you can make…

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from goatman: “There's no way you can do that with deep learning. You need big data for that, and you don't have it and will never have it. ” No I mean you would use the approach with reinforcement learning that they used to train alphago. No datasets required. ” But they used a simulator thanks to the simplicity of the rules of GO... I don't think this approach can be plugged into T9A, even less without one of the best computing servers in the world...

  • Quote from Auto2: “Quote from goatman: “solve than the AI part, The AI should take decisions which are really complex, like: - First, have a global plan, learn to deploy - Then, evaluate situations in which AI is in a favorable position (probabilistically) and try to force them by performing certain actions (unit movements, charges, shootings magic, etc) To me, this looks like it could be a whole PhD dissertation ” Nah, you not do it like this. This is AI of the 1990s. Instead you would throw a …

  • Quote from Squirrelloid: “Quote from Auto2: “We should start with a database of all the stats and rules of units in the game, initially it would only contain a few units, and a minimal viable product (mvp) that allows one unit to fight a combat against another, probably with all special rules turned off (stats-only fight). We will also need a MVP front-end to show what is happening in the simulator, even if that's just a web page with a bunch of command line output. That is already a substantial…

I'm still here, but more in stalking mode during Xmass holidays @skipschnit already answered the shield+thrown question. Regarding the leeching blade question raised by @niggeles, it was removed quite some time ago because it wasn't used in any reported list. It could be useful in a couple of situations, but it was holding a magical enchantment slot with something that was very rarely used. Aaaand the eye of dominance. I think it was more than half a year ago that the all beast thing was reveale…

Quote from Exalted Champion: “Did anyone tried with success a big brick of mongrols with spears and banner of wild herd? On paper it looks very strong and very cheap for what it can deliver. However they need the banner and/or shamanism to deal enough damage it seems. ” They are actually quite popular in Spain! It is a cheapish unit with one-turn heavy damage option!

From the dashboard announcement: (Hidden Content) In our case, we're one of the armies that benefits the most from this change (together with SE), as we can place a forest within the battlefield (seed of the dark forest). I guess this has to be taken into account.

Quote from Bulls Eye: “I would say: - Razor tusks in units bigger than 1, - Gargoyles - Jabberwock Don't know if it's also about magic items? ” Hi @Bulls Eye, There is an internal post about underused units, some ACS decided to make it public. I'm sorry I had a busy week and I was just reading the forums without interveening too much. I do not agree on Gargoyles, I play them and I know quite a few people who plays them and likes them, but I'm with you on the others ;). The post also includes mag…

  • I use units of 8 with muso, champion (blackwing totem) and supported by a druidism shaman and a greater toten bearer. With that combo, it is quite easy to either get blackwing totem or the +2/3 Res or regeneration on them. Quote from marcema: “I guess they have tried lists with 6 small units of 3 minotaurs during play testing? And it turned out to be too strong? Anyone ever tried it? ” I tried up to 3units of 3 in 1.3.X and they were OK as a support or even to redirect. They inflict huge damage …
